Hi all,
I read in a yahoo forum about someones boyfriend who had his nails painted by the girlfriend and she asked what everyone thought, and someone replied " im afraid he might be gay " !!
I had my own nails painted by one of my female friends and she said " i cant believe you just let me do it " ( but she wanted to do it anyway !).She saw me looking at them and grinning and she said that i might be gay.
Get real-just because you like having them painted and liking all the attention does not mean you are gay !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:eek::doh::doh:
It really gets my goat !!
What do you think

I have tried polishing my finger nails and toe nails.
Personally I prefer the natural look, but that is just me.
It is nice to add a bit of color to your life.
Do your female friends wear pants at all? If so they must be soooo gaayy!!!
What nonsense!
Besides, if the guy already has a girlfriend, how is he gay?
I am totally confused now.

Yes, That "gay" association with CD irritates ME quite a bit too. I attribute it to the school kid "definition" that a "gay" (homosexual) is a "guy who thinks he's a girl."-----Which tells ME that after years and years later, they never bothered to even look up what homosexuality was in a dictionary or some other authorative source or book , and have always depended on their equally ignorant peers for their sexuality education.-----Oh sure, by adulthood most people know that gays "have sex with other men", but to them, its only something ELSE gays do, and not the PRIMARY determinant---which they STILL think is as guy wanting to be or thinking one is a woman.
I really dont know what is the most aggrivating aspect of the situation--the sheer ignorance, that causes a lot of needless anguish (self and otherwise) and conflict, or the DUMB LAZINESS of a person not to to consult a book or something, and still depend on what some locker room buddy in junior high school told him (or her) many years ago.

There sems to be more narrow minded and uninformed (or misinformed) people than we can ever imagine. IMHO, opinions are like a-holes, everyone has one and they all stink.

I believe that this is simply because people are less aware of crossdressers than they are of gay men. Many crossdressers are doing so in secret so unless they know someone who crossdresses then how would you expect them to understand it.
for years, it's been the gay men who are open about their feminine side, so when someone sees that, it makes sense that they might initially assume.
If someone says something negative, use that as a teaching opportunity for them. Once that person becomes educated about things then they can begin to pass their knowledge on to someone else.

That's how I've come to see it. I could get really offended, but I'd rather be the ambassador. It does confound me sometimes. I have a pair of pink Converse I wear whether I'm dolled up or not, one gal asked me if I liked girls. It threw me off kilter, and it's sometimes hard to respond when my brain doesn't understand the question!

When you break the universe's rules(the rules, in many people's view, anyway), Uninformed and fearful people are going to make assumptions. It's just the way it is. I wouldn't expect one person here to disagree with you. But don't expect alot of the world to come around anytime soon.

I wore my Nike's with the pink swoosh to a Co picnic and no one said a word.
Now if I had worn sandals and let my frosty pink toenails show I think there might have been something said.

They held the annual Gay Pride parade here in Montreal this past weekend and like most (if not all) gay pride events, they featured numerous drag queens. That's not helping to dispel the whole crossdressers-are-gay stereotyping, is it?
So, given that so many straight people don't have a clue as to what the gay lifestyle is all about, no wonder they think the way they do.

The first question anyone asks a transexual woman when she comes out in her transition is: ARE YOU GAY?
Even my son asked me that, and he should certainly know better with my three wives and lifelong girlfriend of 20 years.
They just dont understand that trans people are people who are in the wrong body. Also that a lot of crossdressers are MALE and have no desire to become women, just wear the clothes, like women do with men's clothes.
Never saw a female crossdresser site or org - there aint none.
Sorry I was preaching and forgot about the nails. The place where I get my nails done, and I did it for a year before my transition to 24/7, told me that they had a number of men customers, I wasn't alone. I painted my nails the same way then that I do now. Short because of playing and teaching guitar, a blue color not real dark and silver sparkles on top. I started having my toenails in pinkish orange with silver sparkles on top too and now I only want to wear flipflops.

I hardly ever get to "dress" but I have my nails done regularly. I have Gel wraps on my fingers, and french (the whole white line tip thing) on my toes. My wife has issuses with me dressing, but the nails, she loves. It keeps them looking neat and healthy.

To put it like this, I have plenty of gay male friends and if I asked one of them if I could paint his nails, I doubt he'd ask me if I was gay.

Well personally I love to paint my finger and toe nails. Of course I wasn't blessed with girlie toe nails...I got those ole crusty guy toe nails...YUK!
My fingers are kinda wide too most press-on nails I've wore didn't fit my fingers right anyway. But I'm with the rest of the gang here as I'm sick of it being considered gay too. I'm tired of the whole thing about being a crossdresser means your gay. I'm not gay...pretty sure of it...and if I went to dressing full time as a girl I'd be attracted to girls, girlie girls too.
Personally I view it as some guys like girls, some like guys. Some girls like guys and some girls. That is just how some people are and it is neither right nor wrong...it's just who they are...big deal.

Yeah people always worry about if someone is ghey. Just look at the person worrying and lick your nails real slowly with a seductive look in your eye.
I don't paint my nails cause I don't particularly like the look of my hands anyways.

Ok, I imagine those tennies are pretty cute.
I must admit though, with the sandals, painted toenails is no big thing. Mine are normally painted..
BUT -
Frosty pink? :heehee:

I have long fingernails and take good care of them. I always have clear polish on them and am sure that others have noticed this. No one has ever said a thing about it to me or asked if I was gay. If I am ever asked that question I will poliely tell them no and explain to them that painted nails or pierced ears have nothing to do with ones sexual orientation.

Oh how we hate those labels don't we.
Maybe instead of moaning about how people see our community, why not educate them, or is it that we don't want to be seen to be out of sync with the pack.
Joe Public will only get a clearer understanding of who and what we are when we stop hiding and be proud of who we are.

Makes me wonder if TG's shouldn't be associated with the Gay movement.
i get the distinct sense from other stuff i have read that the reverse is happening. That gay leadership is trying to disassociate themselves from the TG movement as they continue to make political traction.
I find this this somewhat disturbing. I am not gay but very tolerant and i think that one large block of people who are fighting for universal acceptance and improvement in their civil rights is the best approach.

Many years ago I had this pair of pink pants that were given to me as a gift. They were completely masculine in cut, they looked sharp and felt great, and I really liked them. I wore them to work one day and one of my younger colleagues came up to me and said, "You shouldn't wear those pants, everyone will think you're gay!" I looked him dead in the eye and said "Buddy, I could walk in here in a gold lame dress and nobody would think I was gay."
He quit bugging me about the pants. -- It's all in the attitude.
Afterthought: anybody know of a good place to shop for gold lame dresses?

Chuck Liddel UFC Champion paints his toenails pink and wears sandals. Also Tori Spelling's husband gets professional pedicures and wears red polish on his toes. Same for Kate Beckinsale's husband.
Oh my god, they must all be gay!!

Really? Is that in print somewhere? I would LOVE to see that reference. If ANY guy questioned my pink toenails, that would shut them up like a bear trap.
Found it:
Lee Whitehead: And what's with the painted toe-nails? I know Matt Hughes paints his as well...
Chuck Liddell: I was with a girl I was seeing a while back, and we were out, and she was going for a pedicure, and she said I should get it done. My feet are disgusting, and I thought, "What the hell."
Lee Whitehead: But black and pink? Mind you, not a lot of people are going to take the piss out of you...
Chuck Liddell: Not really. The girls like it, though, when I'm out.
Lee Whitehead: So, you go out clubbing bare-foot to show off your painted toes?
Chuck Liddell: Nah, but I do wear my flip-flops.
- Girls, if you were concerned about your pink toenails and any challenge to your masculinity, you might suggest naysayers take this issue up with Chuck in person.

Unless there is going to be a family event in our pool my toe nails are always painted and done at a salon. I love seeing them when painted and wearing open toe heels. I'm wearing new heels at the moment to break them in and loving it, but without painted toes because of a pool party this week. Bummer.

Alice,
Why take off your toenail polish to please other people? Just keep them painted and if someone doesn't like it, then it is their problem. I don't take off my nail polish for anyone. If we (crossdressers) are to make progress, we should not be ashamed of who and what we are.
:hugs: Jamie

Makes me wonder if TG's shouldn't be associated with the Gay movement.
Bingo! The "t" in lgbt has always been the red-headed stepchild. Most gay people I know are fine with tg's, but it's hardly a priority to most of them. Nor, to most politicians, evidenced by the fact that trans people have been left off of many state gay-equality bills. Even Sen. Barney Frank said the trans community needs to come of age and strike out on its own. And you know what? I think he's right. And it's happenning. Gender equality measures are finally appearing in many states(I can't speak for the UK or Oz) and it's about time we did grow up and realise that no one is going to help us-really help us- but us. The problem is, we have a greater percentage of people permanantly in the closet than the gay community ever did, or ever will have, for many obvious reasons. But that doesnt stop any of us from writing letters or emails to our representatives, wherever a GENDA bill is pending. This can be done anonymously. Where you see an injustice, respond! In the way that works best for you. When you are around ignorance, say something, anything!! you dont have to out yourself to do that. If you want to make a small contribution somewhwere, give a little to your local t-group, while you're writing that check to the United way. If you're out in the world, good for you. Show us in our best light, and that we have a sense of humor, while we are dead-serious. There's something everyone can do. The world isnt going to change FOR us. I really believe that this is our time, and we need to be ready to respond, or stop all of our whining about the unfairness of it all.
Hugs,
Melissa:)
This gay thing sucks - because most anyone know tht a CD is not gay (Bi yws, but not gay necessarily) - Most all gays I have known are into Masculinity almost exclusively.

Sounds like a lot of people aren't just ignorant about CDs, but also about gays.
Really, how many gay people do they actually know, and how many of them actually wear a femme color nail polish?
Next time someone says somethings gay, ask them how many gay people they know.
It's a reflexive thing. You're different, but they don't quite get it, so they label it with something else (and still get it wrong). It's kind of depressing, but only in the general way that stupidity is depressing. I could be called worse things.
