Just wanted to say...

...I think this site is fantastic, and makes me feel so confident and proud about who I am (and indeed who we all are). So many good advice, reassurances, tips, and just general positivity that is just so overwhelming. Thank you. You all really are ladies in the truest sense of the word

Which leads me to my point:

How come tv's, cd's are shoved to the outskirts of society as opposed to being embraced? In my experience with others, one stereotype that never seems to be ascribed to us is just how caring and emotionally engaging we can be. Any group that has any level of intolerance shoved down their throats should be the very groups that others aspire to look up to as opposed to putting down, simply because we have an outlook upon life that is so much more positive - and surely that can only ever be good thing right?

It's because of millenia of religious/cultural training that only acounts for two genders. Most people are busy with their own lives, causing them to only look at the surface of others. The caring and emotionally engaging bit isn't seen except by individuals who get to know us and see below the surface. Besides, we're males and males, by that same training, aren't supposed to be caring the way we are. We're supposed to be the hunters/warriors/stoic cowboys. I think things are changing slowly for the better. It is up to each of us as individuals to put our best foot forward and prove that we are positive, valid members of society.

I wrote about this question in my blog last week (jennalynne.wordpress.com/vive-la-difference). I've concluded that discrimination is inevitable -- not just because people are unenlightened but because it's built into the nature of gender differentiataion.

Bummer, but there ya go.

Hi Jenni,

I think Tammi has it right, we as men are meant to be the tough cavemen who can take care of anything. It's probably a sigh of weakness to show a softer feminine side, you know the taunts.....oh you big girl, etc if a guy shows a weakness.

We, as crossdressers tend to shove our own selves into the corner, afraid to come out because of fear of being ridiculed. A few years ago the gay society broke the shackles and are now largely accepted so it ain't such a big thing for them to come out of the closet. One day, the same thing might happen for us.

This is a fantastic site.....I have only been a member for 2 days, but have received lots of great advice. Keep reading and searching my friend.

Hey Jenni don't confuse the arguement with logic - Many people have made up their bigoted mind and hate to have to rethink/reaccess.

Well others may but I don't consider myself surpressed or shoved to the outskirts... I go out where I want and when I want and casinos and stores take my money no matter how I'm dressed!! :). If I only had more time to practice my hobby... Lifes way to busy for me... And it doesn't look like its going to slow down any time soon!!! Sigh......

When you actually get talking to people they become hugely interested in what you've got to say. There are some bigots out there but actually not that many. We are far more tolerated than many, even here would believe.

From a t-girl who is out there and doing it and desperately wishes others to follow.

I think people are so caught in what society has dictated that they lost themselves in the process due to never having a chance to think for themselves. The Media, opposing religious beliefs,parents,government..all of these share the same form of control..influence.In some peoples lives hate is something that was taught..and something that needs to be unlearned.Maybe some people are just too afraid to deal with the weight that rests on our shoulders. All the things that come with standing alongside people the world sees as too different and wrong.Im just happy that there are people out there that decided they would rather be the engine and not the caboose :)

Hi Jenni! My take on this is that society in general (also referred to as the "normal" people) is still very homophobic and cd'ing is automatically associated to gay, bi-sexual or perverted behavior or lifestyle. There is such a great lack of knowledge and education of cd/tg issues amongst the general populace that assumptions are made with "cattle following the herd mentality". Even more strangely, I've met gays and bi-sexuals who were cd/tg phobic which shows a lack of understanding there as well!

Love & hugs,
Lisa
