I was wondering, if you exercise what gender exercises do you do???? Are you inclined to do female related ones or male related ones????? Personally, I'm more inclined to do the female type.

pretty much male exercise for me: some free weights, some machines, some treadmill or track running. I do have some womens running shorts and a pair of skorts, does that count?

Lawyer speak: Consult with a health professional before starting with any exercise routine. Now down to business:

I do all types of exercises, ballet oriented that are demonstrated for females. My favorite routine is to get properly prepared by putting on a pair of tights and exercise leotard, thong style with high cut legs. A pair of ballet slippers, all color coodinated of course.

The exercises themselves concentrate on the lower half of the body. I don't want to increase the size of my biceps or shoulders, so I don't do anything there. Start slow, only do as many repititions as comfortable, maybe on 1 group of 5, then maybe 1 group of 10 and a few weeks later 2 groups of 7 increase when you can.

First, some grand plies(deep knee bends) 3 groups of 10, stretching hamstrings(back of the leg) inbetween. If knee pain is a problem just do demi plies, only go about half way down.

Second I put on some ankle weights. When I first started this routine about 18 months ago I started with about 2 lbs per leg and gradually worked up to the present 20 lbs per leg, 40 lbs total.

Third, lay on the exercise mat on your side and lift one leg as high as possible. 3 groups of 10, then lay on your other side to do the other leg. This works the side abdominal muscles(where love handles reside) and the gluteus maximus muscles.

Fourth, lay on your back on the floor and lift both legs as high as possible, perpendicular to the floor. I like these for working the abdominal muscles instead of situps, keeps the back flat on the floor and much more comfortable and effective. You may have to grab the edge of a low table or bed to keep your chest stable and on the floor. 5 groups of 10.

Fifth. the praying kick. On your hands and knees like you are praying to Mecca(you know where that is don't you?)Extend left leg straight up towards the ceiling 10 times, the the right leg 10 times. 3 groups of 10 for each leg.
Good for the hamstrings and muscles on each side of the spine and lower back.
Sixth. Sit on the edge of a kitchen table letting your legs dangle. Extend both legs straight out and hold for 3 seconds and retract to dangle. 3 groups of 20. This is the exercise my orthopedic surgeon taught me to do to strenghten my quadriceps(front of the leg) after knee surgery 25 years ago. Been doing them ever since. If my quads are strong my knee pain is minimal.

Seventh. Lay flat on a bed on your stomach. Lift both legs up and essentially kick yourself ( the weights will touch your butt). More for the hamstrings with minimal strain on the knees and lower back 5 groups of 20

I do various ballet stretches for all of the muscle groups above after exercising, very important to prevent stiffness and promote flexibility. About 30 minutes of exercises and 10 minutes of stretching, and try to do it at least 4 times a week.

My best thing to do afterward is go for a long walk, but than can be done at a different time of the day. I try to walk at least 45 minutes 4 or more times a week. Start slow, 10 minutes if that is all you can handle

i know, you are out of breath just thinking about it. But here is the silver lining for me:

Starting in Sept 2006: Weight 195, measurements: 39 chest, 36 waist, 39 hips. Blood pressure 145/90 (first stage hypertension) at rest pulse 70
January 2008: Weight 162, measurements 38 chest 32 waist, 39 hips. Blood pressure 112/75. at rest pulse 57.

Wear size 8 Gloria Vanderbilt jeans now and most tops are either large or extra large instead of plus sizes.

Feel fantastic Just do it

What a great topic. I find myself doing both. I do cardio more than anything because I have always loved cardio. I use free weights and machines but am being careful not to build to much muscle. At this stage I don't think I am really at any risk since I have a great deal of conversion from flab to work on. With core I like to do stuff that tone and shape for a women. I love yoga of course in most of my classes that is a good mix anyway. I find myself more interested in exercise magazines for women than men, and usually am trying the ones more frequently out of womens magazines verses male. I want to shape those areas that are more for a female look than those that are strictly male.

I do a combination of both, my male side in some ways takes over when exercising so I still do a large amount of lifting weights.

Great question Molly,I have also been sticking to lower body and core-ab exercises, however I've found that some upper body and lots of cardio help to support the lower.Try checking out SHAPE magazine, every month they have a new set of exercises plus nutrition, health and beauty tips.

I ride a bike every other day to keep my thighs toned up, and do calf exercises everyday to shape them. Also do butt and tummy exercises daily. It's really starting to pay off. When dressed in panties and bra with forms I look pretty femme. Being a woman is hard work and I admire GGs who care enough about themselves to do the maintenance.

Almost every type of excersize using my arms and legs either builds or maintains the muscles I have. That doesn't help me look fem!

So, I just do my 400 to 500 crunches every morning. Keeps the abs toned!
And hope the rest of me will flab out, like most of the women my age!:heehee:

I do the Nordic Track, and have for twenty years. I guess that would be considered cross-gendered.

I do aerobics every day from the TV with exercise guru Denise Austin. Also have a few of her tapes and videos. She is great. And not bad to look at. I would like to get a leotard--but my wife would go postal. Maybe someday.

I also like Richard Simmons exercise tapes "Sweatin to the Oldies". Does that count? He has the best music.

Gilad tapes are also fun and he has the cutest girls exercise with him.

I used to get enough exercise at work but since I have been on the parts counter for the past year I am really starting to get a paunch so I guess that I should start some sort of a routine to combat that. I ride a bike every day and that keeps my legs and butt in good shape but the rest of me is going downhill.

I've picked this up recently. Hot Moves for Cool Chicks: A Burlesque Workout. I only skimmed through it. But it looks to be a good toning and light aerobic vid, by showing you neat little Burlesque moves.

Also a lot of information about selecting the right costume for your performances

Great topic

I do a range of exercises. I swim several times a week (1/2-full mile, various strokes). This is very good for elongating the body.
I also am involved in a weight lifting routine designed for women. The focus is on toning muslces, removing fat and then adding new muscles. I'm drawn to more muscles, and the athletic look. It's odd how the women in me is interested in a male look, especially for the chest. I enjoy working out in a short dress and cute top.
I also do morning yoga type stretching with tai chi and practice Aikido at least twice a week.
So, lots going on in this area. Very curious how it will play out with the dressing.

To lose my weight and cutting back my intake of food, but I do similar exercises as Karen Francis does, leg lifts and stretches. One of the stretches I've adopted is standing parallel next to the kitchen counter and bringing one leg up to rest on the counter while I stand on the other, it definitely strectches the backside of the leg. Most of exercises center on the lower body, legs and ab's. Kim:battingeyelashes:

I'm active enough to not require a routine, but I tend to go biking most weekends. What I'm doing that may be a bit different is I started a stretching routine. Using google, search for "working towards the splits". I tried it on a whim but I discovered the lower back exercises have done wonders for my posture and mobility of my back and shoulders. I feel really good after only a couple weeks. Also, I can't do the splits (not even close), but I feel a lot better than I did before I started so I'm going to keep it up.

I have been riding my bike to work 3 to 4 days a week 5.5 miles each way and then on the weekend I try to do 12 to 15 miles at once. My belly is finally starting to go down a little, got inspired with the posting by the girl who does 4 to 5 hundred crunches a day (wow!) so I am going to start putting crunches into my routine. However as I loose weight in my belly my butt keeps getting smaller. I need my butt to get bigger. Aren't most girl exercises geared to slimming the butt? My upper body is fairly well toned and riding the bike is helping me loose weight and tone my legs and crunches would help narrow my waist.

I exercise three times a week for 20 minutes each time running on our treadmill at home. The exercise (running) might not be very girly but I can can tell you that my exercise clothes definitely are! :D

There are some exercises you can do to to tone up a flabby butt or "satchel a**" as it is sometimes called. A google will find them. One of the differences between us and GGs is where we store fat on our bodies. GG's tend to store fat in the glutes, men store it in their bellies. This means that if you're doing butt exercises intended for GGs they will have an unintended effect on your caboose. It will get smaller, just what you don't want. Doing the butt toning (not reduction) routine will shape it nicely, but it will still be more manly than girly. Unfortunately that's just the way it is unless you get silicone butt implants ($$$) or wear padded panties.
