I asked my Doctor about HRT, but she said I shouldn't do it because I have heart problems and there is a risk of thrombosis. I think the risk is something like 10,000 to 1. I'm not sure how much having high blood pressure increases the risk?

Spironolactone is actually used sometimes to treat high blood pressure, so I assume the problem is taking Estogens. As I'm over 40 I was thinking of using Estradot patches.

I don't know what risk of thrombosis there is from Estrogen patches?

I'm having some blood tests, so I may speak to the Doctor some more when I get the test results.

Spiro will lower BP. The risk of thrombosis is from Estrogen. The patch IS recommended for those over 50 because of the slow release. Your doctor does have valid concerns. This is exactly why medical monitoring is crucial. I would ask about seeing an endo.

I'm over 40 also (way over-55) and my doctor was nmot sure asbout hormones hor me either. She had me gat a second opinion from my cardiologist - he said there was less than a 5% chasnce of thrombosis for ME so my HRT doc gave me the HRT BUT at a lower dosage - 1mg Estrodiol & 100 mg Spiro. Also has my regular GP doingh monthly blood workups.

Remember - Your doctor knows what's best for YOU - DO NOt SELFMEDICATE!
