I didn't want to derail marny's "angry wife" thread but it reminded me of something I noticed -
OK so some of us are at least semi-out. People that notice us or are intrigued by our CD'ing and ask questions seem to get fascinated with every new thing we wear. What is up with that? It is like this -
Most [maybe all] at work know I CD. When I got my femme watch, everyone asked about it...
The other day I wore shorter than male shorts, and everyone was fascinated...
It is like they already know so why do people act like it is this big deal every time we add some little femme detail to our look? I mean I could see if one of us wore like this bozo colored afro wig or those 12" heels we all lie about being able to walk in but little junk like mascara or a new watch?
I think if I went to work Halloween in full femme garb, some of them would have heart failure from amazement. [Karren, can I borrow tht purple wig? :heehee: ]
HAHAHAHAHAH! :D Non-gender folks. They are SO easily amused...
So now on to you, my friends. Do you get these reactions and why do YOU think they are amazed like each tiny new detail is a revelation? And do you find it hilarious that they are so fascinated like I do?

Yes I do Erin. We are just doing what we want to so anyway. Like you say, it doesn't take much to fascinate some people.:)

I get the looks when I'm out in public. I get read but I just keep on going. In a sense I think some may wonder why we do what we do. Hey, we're just being ourselves.

It is funny.I got the same from just being dark."Are you wearing eyeliner?","why"."Why do wear earrings that big?"."Why do you dress like that?".Or it was the mascara, eye shadow,etc..My hair is brown and I didnt dye it for a couple years but, when I did (black),there were so many questions.I was just like, wow, all I did was color my hair...but pure amazement for some other people :heehee:

At times it seems that everyone in the drive thru that I often get breakfast at wants to come to the window and say something. It took me a little time to realize that they were making (sometimes lame) excuses just to get to talk briefly to me and (I presume) to check out what I was wearing. Each time it happened I couldn't figure out what was different about my outfit than what I'd worn plenty of times before...
I guess that this is what pretty girls have to deal with all of their lives :) (I never thought I'd say anything like that...)

That doesn't just happen in the fem look. I have a very 70's look in drab. When I had my girls in high school the normal look parents would always comment and what I and my wife at the time would be wearing, we were and still have that retro-hippy look. The real deal, not catalouge chic. As Frank Zappa said "It that a real poncho, or a sears poncho" If you don't fit the norm people always check you out, enjoy it.

I still have my fringed buckskin leather jacket form the 60's probably still has a Quaalude in the pocket or pot seeds.
The 60' and 70's were fun.It really is funny to see the psuedo(sp) hippies of today you know the kids and grand kids of the real hippies.
They are still driving worn out Volvos.:tongueout
BTW mykhelee "Watch out where the huskies go and don't you eat no yellow snow"FZ is my hero.

My usual encounter has been with younger females, 20's to 30ish. Guys usually wait until your talking to The Girls and then they will work up the nerve to come and talk with you. At least that's the way it goes in straight bars, when a group of us goes out catting around.
Their approach is pretty similar to Gal/Gal Encounters...I think. Usual opening line from her is some compliment on my clothing, "Love your shoes." Or, a compliment on femininity: "You have great legs, wish mine looked that good." I take that sort of approach as an "icebreaker." I read GG's as using comments like that, as a way to start conversation. Sort of an easy way to say "Hello, and I would like to talk to you." If I respond in kind, The Conversation usually progresses.
People would naturally be curious about us, we are something "different." I wouldn't expect anything else. I kind of welcome comments like that, it shows that not everyone wants to be a jerk or get confrontational. I think it is important that we try and respond in a positive way, and do some Public Relations/Outreach with these folks. In the long run, it can only help us.
So do I mind if people notice small things about my person when I'm enfemme? No indeed, I welcome their comments. I enjoy our encounters.
Peace and Love, Joanie

Well today I got to hear my daily does of amazement about my gender presentation. this one guy asked if I am gonna break out the fur coat and has been saying for over a year that he is going to try to get me a pink boa to wear with my fake black fur coat. I told him "Oh trust me I will wear the pink boa with my coat". He has no doubt...
He did mention something, I laughed my butt off but never thought of, he said "There are not different degrees of fabulous, you have to go for the gold or nothing..." I laughed cause "fabulous" is a [literally] gay word. :heehee:
I mean come on now, no half-assing fabulous! [Ok the word is funny to me.]
Hadn't you realised? That's what we're put on this earth for -- to bring a little joy into those poor people's vanilla lives.
Perhaps we should start up a charity for those with an imagination handicap -- the purpose being to commit acts of mindless amusement and unprovoked kindness towards anyone wearing grey.
Oh ouais! J'ai réalisé ca. Mais c'est encore drôle!
Acts of mindless amusement? Je peux le faire, car je n'ai pas un cerveau.
Et tu me dis qu'il y a des gens qui portent des vetements gris? Mon dieu! Ces vetements sont vachement laids! Peut-etre un CD peut conseiller ces gens...

erin, amusing thread
Isn't it great we bring a little joy into people's drab lifes. Everytime I go out I get read and all they do is walk away with a smile and a story to tell later.
