When I shop for womens clothes I have to try on, I go in drag. Then when at the cashier, I always pay credit card; no problem though, my name Jesse goes both ways as a guy and girl. But I almost got busted bad several times, - they asked to see my driver's license, and that has my guy pic! So my strategy is to pull out the DL but hold it such that my thumb covers my guy pic! - Worked all the time but one day I will get busted! - Like maybe in Chicago, - at Macy's and Carson's where I think they ask you for your DL and hold it themselves?

You ever got busted bad like this?

...if you can't do the time, don't do the crime! :heehee:

Sure I've been "outed" by my DL, but my name doesn't go both ways, so they probably already knew.

I look at it as an opportunity for them to do a comparison between my male/female side and actually enjoy watching their face and reactions!

Just be yourself, it's a very safe bet they don't care what you are wearing, or buying... They might on the other hand wonder why you are so nervous using that credit card, and trying to cover the photo id portion of your license...

Keep trying on those skirt suits!

:hugs:

Kate, I have been asked for photo ID a number of times when I have been shopping enfemme. I use my regular male credit card. I show them my license, give a big grin and wait for the reaction. Sometimes the facial expression of SA is priceless.

It is no big deal.

"Oh sweetie, I need your I.D., not your husband's."

"Thank you dear, but that is MY I.D.!"

This is usually followed by slow recognition, then a raised eyebrow, then a smile. Maybe a soft apology, "Sorry dear," but more often than not, simple friendly and professional service.

I rarely use cash almost always debit or credit card. I have two credit cards that I've had additional cards issued with only a first initial and last name. I use names that begin with the same letter (Jenna and Jake). So I hope that helps reinforce my presentation.

But yes, we all do sometimes get outed when we must show I.D.

No I never get "busted" because I just don't care.

When I buy cigarettes I just hold up my FL Driver's liscence.

But usually I show them my FL State Prison inmate ID because it actually has me looking like a girl with long hair though I look terrible because in that mugshot I had no makeup on and my hair was still soaking wet from taking a shower with 40 really dangerous MEN.

If you sign your credit card, they arent supposed to ask for ID... it is in their merchant agreement with Visa and Mastercard

The clerks only want to make a sale and get you out of the store. I've done my time in retail, and I only remember two types of customers: the select few who really made my job easy and the *******s who really made my job hard. I've gotta second Shannen here. Your nervousness will attract more attention than your crossdressing.

If that doesn't convince you, think of it this way. Would you rather get read by the clerk for 5 seconds as they check your ID? Or get read by everyone in the area for the next 5 minutes as that clerk calls in for their manager to come to the register and figure out what to do about "the fidgety woman with an credit card and ID with a different name and sex".

You're doing nothing wrong. Don't let anybody tell you different. Confidence is 90% of the game: that's true whether you're wearing the clothes or buying them.

Well, if your shopping drab, arent you outting yourself? And wouldnt that be your DL? Now if you were dressed en-femme... that would be different. I do it all the time, and have given up my male DL, and no one cares!

There was a post earlier today also stating they need not ask for your license and that the card companies guarantee it.Maybe if you do get asked you should just ask for the manager to verify that.

I must have missed something! I thought you could only get "busted" if A.) Your breasts grow in a misappropriate manner. Or, B.) you have done something illegal to get arrested.

Since you haven't mentioned anything about your breasts, I will assume you are referring to (B.). But, last I checked shopping is not illegal, nor is using a credit card.

You might be concerned about having your male identity "revealed," but that's a far cry from being arrested. Perhaps it would be best to use a little different terminology. I think we might be frightening "newbies" into believing they could be arrested.

Well I pay cash.... and I also try on women's clothing in drab or enfemme.... I guess when the security guard confronted me in the hotel or when the security guard asked me to stop taking photos of myself in the casino that was being "busted".... Busted is to me would be beaten up and dragged off to jail and put in a cell with Bubby that hates crossdressers!! hahaha

But I really could care less.....

Meh... so what if you get outed?

What are they going to do? NOT take your money???

I think not. I've no problem with anyone knowing I'm a guy and when it does happen its usually a look of shock.

Serves em right!

You aint gonna like this .....but have you ever thought such behaviour may only add to peoples negative thoughts and reactions towards crossdressers ?
Sorry , but if you do get busted , then would it really be worth the gamble ?
Try to imagine what it must be like for the person who maybe the discoverer......
Certainly makes you think.

I'm 100% confident when I buy in drag - so used to shopping in drag.

The problem is when the dept store knows you're a crossdresser. Then they won't let you use the women's fitting room. I outed myself in 1 Macy's and they never let me use the fitting room there. So I don't want that to happen at the Chicago stores.

They asked for DL at Carson Pirie Scott, Brookstone, Victorias Secret, and sometimes Macy's.

My only concern in this situation is that my ID is so different from my presentation that they'll think the credit card is not valid/stolen. The names match, which I assume is really all that matters. Just to make sure, when I renewed my driver's license a couple of weeks ago I did my hair fem. Now my DL goes both ways!

No one here ever asks to see your DL when you use a credit card. I wonder why they do it there? Have you signed your card on the back?

Different Problem Kate, now what we have is a need for a driver's license with your femme picture on it. I don't know about Illinois, but it can be done in Florida. Joann and several other's I know have done just that, and they had no problems getting The I.D.

The only hassle for them, was the need to have their male pic come up if they were stopped by The Police. In our state they use the last picture you had taken. Joann had to go back a second time (as a male,) to get that problem taken care of.

Sounds like you might need to do something similar. Anyone from Illinois with any experience with this? Perhaps it's a different system in that state.

Peace and Love, Joanie

I have never shopped en femme as it takes so long to look anywhere near respectable (for myself) and I have not purchased any typical streetwear clothes. All my things were for at home or party outings. (see avatar)

After the first year or so buying femme paraphenalia with the usual BS "for my wife, cousin, girlfriend, neighbor" etc., I just decided, as have others here, to just tell the truth, get over the embarrassment (unwarranted) and spend my money.

One BIG word of caution- NEVER! NEVER! NEVER! sign a credit card or debit card with your full name. I refuse to sign them at all, but if you do , only use the first initials of your name. Anyone getting your card can easily dupe it and verify everything with your name signed on the card.

I have also been told and had demonstrated how easy it is to get a fingerprint off a card to duplicate. The card must be exposed to the fumes of Superglue for the fingerprint to become visible. When you see that done on CSI in a glass enclosure that is what is being used- Cyanoacrylate solvent.

Another good idea is to write "ask for ID" on the card in the signature line. This was recommended to me by a bank officer at BOA. Obviously if you choose that option you may have to out yourself, but remember you have a constitutional right to the "pursuit of happiness" and myriad other rights. You are a tax paying adult and are not breaking any laws by dressing the way you want.

I personally have serious issues looking at people with steel rings in the nose, eyebrows, tongue or other holes punched through the flesh to poke hardware but I have no right to say anything- it's their right. MY right is to wear a dress if I want and wearing a dress does NOT require drilling holes in my body.

So, to the teeny bopper clerk with the perforated cheeks, eyebrows, tongue and whatever else: ring up the sale, put my purchase in the bag, keep your comments to yourself and TYVM.

Another good idea is to write "ask for ID" on the card in the signature line.I (http://www.google.com/search?q=%22Credit+Card%22+%22See+ID%22+signature) respectfully (http://www.museumofhoaxes.com/comments/creditcard.html) disagree (http://usa.visa.com/merchants/risk_management/card_present.html#anchor_6). If you're worried about clerks copying your card info (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Credit_card_fraud#Skimming), the best thing you can do is to check your statement every month, as soon as you get it. In the United States, you're only liable for the first $50 of any fraudulent charges (http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre07.shtm), but you're only protected if you report the fraud as soon as you find it.
