To the forum;

Theoretically speaking, if you were single, had a guaranteed income (livable-not extravagant) which you could collect anywhere you lived, where do you think the most cd friendly environment would be? East Coast...West Coast,,,Overseas...? It will be interesting to see where this thread goes!

San Francisco seems to be the most cd/tg friendly city I have seen so far. L.A. Is not bad but S.F. Is better.

I would love to live in Amsterdam. They seem pretty open and accepting there.

Rhonda, I am in exactly that postion in life that you described. I could live anywhere I want to live, but have chosen to stay right where I am. It is not the most cd friendly, but it is OK. I choose to live where I am because the quality of life is very good. Many services are available. The cost of living is relatively low.

There is much more to life than cd'ing.

Myself, It would be the Seattle, Tacoma, Olympia area of Washington State. It's a nice CD friendly area. Plenty of places to go to shop and out to club and eat.

Being from Minnesota, I would live where ever there are pines growing 360 degrees around my home and a lake out my west side of the house. That way in the evening I could sit outside on the porch and watch the sunset and keep a watch in the fishing line in the water. There is an advantage of this being no-one to bother you if you like solitude. Well you asked, sorry. Huggs Keli

If the bay area, in California wasn't so expensive. I think I'd be out there. But like Jodi I like where I'm at now. The other plus is I'm near my kids and grand daughter.

I'd stay right here.... for two main reasons....

STEELERS & PENGUINS!! :)

and it's friendly enough... the cost of living and housing is THE best in the whole country... which means more money to spend on the finer things in life... like clothes... makeup, playing ice hockey.... and Penguins tickets!! hahaha

Except for the winter, Chicago is perfect for me--mainly because I know where I'm going around here!Lots of things to do, and I have never had a problem while out dressed. But I would love to go anywhere warm from December to March.Probably Phoenix or the Fla. gulf coast.

Not 'Frisco! U freeze your behind off there in winter!

LA? Well, weather's OK, but u better REALLY like people! The LA, Orange, Inland Empire Counties, ( which all blurr together), total nearly 17 million people!

How about Thailand? Lots of Americans go there to retire. U can live REALLY well there, for about $2,000 to $3,000 a month! That'll probably include the live in Thai girlfriend, or ladyboy, of your choice!:D

Northampton, Massachusetts, aka "Lesbianville, USA." We lived just down the road from there (in Amherst) for in the early 90s. Of all the places we've lived (NY, NJ, MD, MA, CA, TX) western Massachusetts was the best. Winters were cold, but the tolerant, relaxed, artsy small-city atmosphere more than made up for it.

The San Francisco area was good in most ways, but we got tired of the congestion and traffic. Ithaca NY was a great town but the winters were oppressively dark and cloudy.

As a two-professor couple, we go where we can find two university jobs and right now that's Texas. It's not a bad place -- less crowded than California, good weather, a good art/music scene, generally friendly people -- but the culture at large is still pretty backwards regarding LGBT issues.
We're doing our part to bring them into the 21st century.

My answer is none of the above.

Find a map of Ontario In Canada. Look for the cities of North Bay, Sudbury and Timmins. Now imagine a spot right in the middle of the nowhere of that triangle. That's where I'd be!

I call the place Bear's Paw, and it is totally mythical. But I'd have a small A-Frame house, and this is where my wife and I would live and love and enjoy the wonders of nature.

I can just imagine getting up on a sunny winter morning, the sky is a beautiful blue, and snow sparkles like a field of diamonds. A fire is blazing in the fireplace as I in my nighty go to the kitchen to make coffee for my wife and me. We then sit in bed, watch a deer scamper through the snow, as a wiggle my painted toenails.

Later we get up, I dress in a long skirt, and warm sweater. I sit at my PC and begin writing, for in this, I would be a writer.

At the end of the day, my wife and I curl up before the fire, both in our nighties, and sit sipping cocoa, watching the Northern lights.

That is what I want.

I would try to find some quirky small town somewhere in the mountains where they wouldnt really care (I know they are out there). Im tired of living in the city anyway.

I think the most cd friendly place in the USA is the San Francisco area but I certainly would not want to live there. I have lived my entire life in the upper midwest and like it here except for the winters. If I wanted to move it would be to a place where it is warm year round but not in a largely populated area.

I feel as if I'm in the best place already and I wouldn't live anywhere else.

Here it's warm all year round, great beaches, clean city and friendly people.

My favorite places to live would be San Francisco, Monte Carlo, San Diego and Paris, regardless of what their disposition is...

I was fascinated by all the interesting responses, and I guess my original question was borne from the frustration of living in a small city with limited resources, not to mention that it's also very conservative. There is a possibility that I may move to the west coast, though at this time that is very nebulous. I have also considered moving to the fringes of a larger city but still be close enough to be near my friends and family...but not so close that I have unexpected visitors! (lol)

Thanks so much,

Hugs,

Rhonda Michelle

OMG, Amsterdam sounds so wonderful! France sounds lovely too.

If I had to stay in the USA, I would choose the northwest coast.
