I was reading my email on another site a few days. A man in France put a marital proposal to me. I've been hit on before but never had someone ask me to marry them. Maybe I'm dressing TOO good. :D

Dont let that surprise you ;)
I had a guy 8 years ago who met me in a club who was rather well off, saw my act on stage, then propostioned me right on the spot. Offered to fly me out to his estate in California, pay for a sex-change op, a new car, any clothing I wanted etc etc... and he was dead serious too.

I almost wanted to cry watching him drive away in DeLorean.

I guess I was the wrong person at the wrong time, lol. As mildly tempting as the offer was... I'm not bi, not interested in the transisition, and I would have made a terrible hollywood socialite lol

Its nice to dream about though.

Don't worry, you'll see him again in a few years and he'll look exactly the same... Just don't get your nice shoes stuck in the melted/burning rubber trailling behind the car :)

You should have at least asked for a ride in the DeLorean. A chance like that doesn't come up too often.

Tell me this- as much as everyone seems to love DeLoreans, aside from the DMC company in Texas that ends up restoring them, why don't they re-start production of the car. I bet more people would start buying American cars then!

Gee Ive had "interesting" offers but never marriage - really should work on my look. There are definately some tranny chasers out there that will offer all kinds of things.

BTW

There are two Deloreans running around our area. I've spoken with both owners and the reality is they look good, but are really high maint and not the best drivers by todays standards.

I got to ride in one and wish I would have passed ; really burst my bubble. Its early 80's tech and shows, they had some great ideas but they didnt get into production.

Another big reason is that the dies used to make the body panels were destroyed and sold for use as ballast weights in cargo ships. I think the spirit is alive but the Delorean is dead.

Besides they only made 9000 not a huge seller in its day. Plus they stopped in 1982 and Back to the future came out too late to save them.

I've had a couple of them sail past me on the highways here. You can't beat a car made of stainless steel though. I'm sure the 80's tech really shows, but if it could be updated, it would be awesome. I like the new electric car by Tesla though.

I've not been proposed to before by a guy for marriage, but I did have the proposition by one guy to turn me into the woman "that I know you want to be". Unfortunately for him, he mentally couldn't grasp the idea that I don't want to do anything to myself permanently.

When I was in college and going out in drab, but actually wearing nothing male, a really nice guy walked up to me one day and asked if I wanted to be a girl. When I sort of stuttered and looked amazed, unable to answer, he said he'd been watching me for days and he'd noticed I was always wearing mascara (it was clear mascara, and I thought no one would notice) and he'd seen that I was wearing stockings and I always smelled of perfume.

He was very nice about all this, not confrontational at all. I finally told him all about me over a cup of coffee in the student union, and he was very accepting and supportive. We went out on a few dates after that, and he eventually became my lover, even buying me three very nice dresses and some scrumptious VS undies, which we both had a lot of fun with.

After a month or so, he told me he loved me and he wanted to move in with me, but I wasn't ready for that, and I wasn't in love with him.

Just before graduation, we decided to stop seeing each other as he was moving to Texas to take a job there. At times I still miss him.

I guess that one might consider a marriage proposal to be the ultimate compliment for a crossdresser.

The DMC factory was located in Dunmurry, Northern Ireland.
Although the car was primarily sold/marketed in & for the US.

Another big reason is that the dies used to make the body panels were destroyed and sold for use as ballast weights in cargo ships.

The molds were not actually destroyed, nor were they used as ballast.
Sort of.
Here is a link to what really happen to them: DMC Body Molds (http://www.dmcnews.com/Resource/bodydies/bodydies.html)

Yeah, I know there's a company in Texas called DMC which isn't exactly the same DeLorean Motor Company that originally existed. Without reading the actual article (because i'm lazy like that), I believe that they ended up buying the original body molds and leftover parts. They now re-use those to repair and restore the original DeLoreans that are brought in to them. Their company can also build you one.

Has anyone noticed that somehow, the subject of her getting proposed to got somewhat neglected and everyone is like "ooh DeLorean!"

Perhaps this thread should be split. One for Gennnee's question and the other about DeLoreans. I don't have any advice about her question but I've always wanted a DeLorean after seeing Back to the Future. "Doc, you made a time machine, out of a DeLorean?" I've seen many up close and there are still a few driving around the area in the summer. About as much a sports car as the Fiero but their still classy and have an interesting history like the Tucker and can actually be obtainable.

Um...there's a bit of a difference between a proposal and a proposition....

And I wonder if your Frenchman knew the difference...

Was he polite?

It would probably require a nearly complete redesign as safety and pollution standards have changed considerably in the last 20+ years. Plus, you would have to change the name given the checked past of John DeLorean...

Years ago a local farmer asked me to be his "wife". He was dead serious. I politely turned him down and he has since passed away. I often wonder how it would have been though. I'm thinking "Green Acres" maybe.:)

Fit and finish aside the Delorian is an awsome car and the technology, even twenty five years later, is still very much impressive. The car was largely designed by Collon Chapman of legendary Lotus fame. He had earlier designed the Lotus Europa with which the Delorian shares many features. In fact the Delorian sub structure very much resembles the chassis of the Lotus Elise, the current production car from Lotus. I had a ride in one way back when. Just like a Lotus only a little bigger. Nimble and precise though underpowered because of EU mandates regarding engine selection. (it got stuck with a four cylinder Renault) You could probably beef up the drive train and drop in a small block and hold onto your hat Hanna! Too bad it didn't live long enough to get the bugs worked out.
