Just posted some thoughts on my blog that I'd like to share with everyone here...

When I was little my grandmother used to babysit for me all the time - she was a warm, funny sweet big hearted woman who loved to knit and never lost her thick accent. After a lot of begging, she finally taught me to knit and crochet but she made me promise in Italian not to tell anyone. I could never practice because my dad was always punishing me for not acting "male enough" and he would have hit the roof (and me) if I pulled out knitting needles. I had to live vicariously through my mom and grandmother as I watched them knit. Well, guess what? I picked up some knitting needles and some yarn this week, and I am well on my way to making (a really sorry looking) scarf, hot pink of course. Feels like honoring my mom and grandmother and also a way of honoring the girlhood I missed out on... :)

Oh that brings back memories! - I used to do cross-stitching with my mum when I was a kid. Now I have a hankering for some needle and thread...
