This question is directed at the more mature Gurls (say, 50+ years old) on this forum:

Is your wife (or SO) a member of the Red Hat Society, and if so, were you ever tempted to seek membership in that group as well as participate in their activities as one of the "girls"?

For those who don't know, the Red Hat Society is an international women's group comprised of loosely affiliated local chapters dedicated to the notion - as Cyndi Lauper once put it - that "girls just wanna have fun..."

Typically, the members are post-menopausal women who are dedicated to the goal of not just drifting quietly into a sedate old age, bur raising a little h*ll along the way and getting in touch with their inner, silly selves before their bodies give out. Their typical "uniform" is a gaudy red hat of the type the British Queen Mother used to wear, along with a purple outfit.

Quite a sight to behold, especially when a group of these Red Hatters invade a restaurant or mall and start to behave like a bunch of silly teenagers. They seem to be having the time of their lives during these outings, and many is the time I wished I could join them (preferably as "Leslie") and shed my normal staid male persona while in their company.

Anyone here have any personal experience with this group, and being as silly and unconventional as they are, do you think that they would be open to having CD'ers who want help in getting in touch with their own particular fun-loving "inner girls" join them?

I've seen many of the Red Hat girls out and about and they always seem to be having a good time. I have never had the guts to ask about joining but it appears that most, if not all of the members would love to have us as members.

Don't look back girl, something may be gaining on you.

They say other than their age requirement, their only rule is there is no rules. But I sure would like to try to join them.

There are two age groups. One is slightly younger and where pink rather than red. I was in Vegas during one of their national conventions and they were everywhere. I had a chance to talk with a few of them....always talking about their clothes and how much fun they were having. I did not have the right colors with me, but I almost asked if they had some extra clothes! They were a blast to be with.

I've seen them of course and yes, I've thought about joining, but never looked into it. What are the age requirements? 50+ for Red, and under 50 for pink?

Wow that's so not what I was thinking it was.

In my generation(and mostly profession) Red Hats (and White Hats, Black Hats) mean something totally different.

Karren and MJ if only you were right. The red hat ladies may be old, but they certainly do not let it show. Getting older does not mean we have to be or act old! I can not think of a more fun group to join.

My dear late wife was a very active member of the Red Hat Society. I was fortunate to attend a couple of meetings with her as Stephanie. She introduced me as a friend from out of town so I wasn't asked to join. I wish I had been! They do have fun! I do still have her Red Hat!:heehee:

I have been tempted to contact one of the local groups to join. They do seem to have soooo much fun. In fact, one day, out of the blue, my wife asked if I was a member. Told her that I wasn't -- yet.

I personally don't need a specific "costume" (or excuse) to be my inner silly self. It all seems to come out naturally.:)

Maybe 8 or 9 million of them!

Only they don't all wear red or pink hats here. Or any hats at all, for that matter!

They call themselves, " Cougars"!

Geez (Mary) Louise...

In the immortal words of Wayne and Garth -

"We're not worthy!"

"We're not worthy!"

Absolutely great ensemble, but don't keep us in suspense - are you an actual Red Hat Lady, or just practising to be one?
