hi!

i have a quick question about measurements ... shows how much i know :(

when a woman states her measurements as 35-21-33 ... what does that really mean? and at the same time, someone else who says they are 98-60-88 ... what do the three measurements relate to?

thank you for your time and patience

The measurements 35-21-33 are girl morse code for 35"chest, 21" waist, 33" hips. The chest measurement is sans breast, so if you have a chest measurement of 35", that means if you run a tailor's measuring tape across your chest, just under the breasts you came up with that number. To include breast size, as in a bra, it would be the chest measurement plus cup size, so 35" B for example.

For the second set of numbers, 98-60-88, I'd say you're either dealing with a rather immense lady, or someone using the metric system.

Hope this clarifies things

If the 35 measurment is the one just under the breast, then I have a question too. I read that your bra size would be this complicated formula. Example measuring under your breast and you get 35". Meaure the fullest part of the breast and you get 41". Then (this is the part I don't understand) Add 4 to the first measurment to get 39 (round up to 40) then the the cup size is A (because the measurment around the fullest part of the breast was 2" greater than the calculated size????

Could you shine some light on that for me? In my case I measure 39 at my chest and 43 around the fullest part of the breast. I determined a 40B

Hope you can help!!

i think the letter (A,B,C,D, etc) is determined by the difference between your band measurement and your bust measurement ... A for 1 inch, B for 2 inches ... etc.

so if your band measurement was 40 and your bust measurement is 43, then i think it's 40C.

Ladies:

I believe bra size and bust measurements are two different measurements but related. You need both to determine cup size.

To obtain the correct bra to wear, you need to measure your chest--this is also known as band size. To determine cup size, women must next measure their bust...fullest breast measurement level with their nipple. Here is where the difference between bust and band sizes comes in. The greater the difference, the cup size starts going up the alphabet...A, B, C, etc. there are tables for this.

Now for a male, since they don't usually already have breasts but desire breasts to form a bustline, they need to do it a bit differently. Basically, they need to do it backwards. Measure your chest which equals your bra or band size. Next, determine in your mind what cup you wish to be....A, B, C, D, DD, etc. Go back to the same table and find your bra and cup size. The table should give you the difference in inches between your bra and bust measurements. Now add the difference to your bra size and that is your bust measurement.

OK, now that defines the first number, which is bust size, in let's say 43-36-41, which just so happens to be my measurements today as I sit here dressed. The next number is the waist; use some caution in measuring waists. Both men and women waists should be measured 1-2" above the top of the hip bone. Ladies, don't equate your waist measurements with your male pant's size because guys tend to measure their waists a bit lower mainly, where their pants hang.

The last number is for hips. The hips is measured at the fullest part around your butt. Most of us fall way short in this measurement.

Many years ago, I can remember the numbers for a perfect woman's figure were 36-24-36. Oh, how I would listen intently when watching the Miss America contest.

Hope this helps.

When I frist brought my breat froms I asked the sale lady what size would be apropreate form my size and figure. and gave it to me looked great and she said buy a 42d or dd bra. So I have ever since. I don't worry anymore about how to mesure my self. Forntueitly, I remained about the same size and 18/20. It's rare that I have to by a biger size or smaller! Just lucky I guess! Love Tammy
