For those "in the know", I have a few questions about the COGIATI test (online).........
How accurate are the results.....if answered truthfully ?
And......
What is the number scale based upon ?
I took the test today and I got the following number result.........230........with the explanation that I am "diagnosed" as a "late onset Transsexual". It went on to say that it's recommended that a consultation with a counselor experienced in gender dysphoria could be beneficial to my well-being.
Any input on this subject would be greatly appreciated. :hugs: to all.

You should only take the COGIATI for fun. I don't think the results are valid at all and I don't agree with all of the asumptions that go into it. I think it tries to put a number to something that you really can't put a number to.

Hi everyone,
There is nothing scientific about COGIATI. It's a made up test by a person who is not a doctor of psychology. It's based on stereotypes of gender behavior.
While it is fun to take. It has no relevant meaning other than to tell you how you fit into gender stereotypes.
There is no test to tell one they are transsexual. The only way anyone, including psychiatrists and psychologists, know we are transsexual, is for us to tell them. The only person who knows if you are transsexual is you. You have to look deep inside oneself and ask some hard questions of yourself and answer them honestly.
If after asking those questions one still does not know, there is no one that can tell you. But having said that, there are professionals who can help you ask the right questions. But in the end, we tell them, they don't tell us.

I agree completely with both Stacey & Elizabeth. If that test had any 'truth' to it, then there would be no female mathematicians, physicists, etc. Several other gender stereo type assumptions on that test also. In part, my impression is it gives you a gauge of how you act and respond in comparision to a over-generalized, not necessarily acccurate, female type person.
It was fun though!!!

I agree with you all, its a bit of fun. The test can do more harm than good. Stick to how you feel about yourself, be honest, thats the best test.

So were you a definite transsexual or a probable transsexual?
I wish they would take that thing off line. It is totally useless, misleading and probably causes more harm than not.

As stated, that test has no scientific basis to it. Myself and my Psychology professor were looking over it and kind of scratching our heads. Though it does involve some analysis it does also ask questions and judges somethings completely different than a professional would. That test does really need to be removed. Talk to a therapist about things :)

The COGIATI test is ridiculous, but then so are all those other tests that you see online.
Then again, maybe I'm just saying that because I'm good at math, and instead of playing with dolls I liked to tell my mom stories about my Lego creations and play chess with her.

Thank you for the comments/replies, ladies. I figured that there wasn't a lot validity in the test/results, but wanted to get your input on it. :hugs:

I keep seeing this topic pop up and i am pissed! These so called "tests" remind me of the "Are u gay" tests in the 70's that professionals used to "diagnose" kids and families! I know several friends who's parents were told they had gay children due to these stupid tests and then made their children play football and not hug their kids for years.
ATTN: THESE TESTS ARE ABSOLUTE GARBAGE!
I am not trying to insult those of u who are taking them, but please....it seems to me that many here are looking for that someone or thing to tell them they are ok and its the right thing for them to dress etc. Accept who u are and feel good about that. Stop looking for these tests. They are purely entertainment at best. They shouldn't even be allowed.

The COGIATI test is total rubbish

Call me crazy but I didn't really have an issue with the COGIATI test. First of all, there was a pretty strong disclaimer that the test is not scientific and should only be used as a tool for further investigation and that it is not certified by any professional. Therefore, someone who takes such a test after reading such a disclaimer should view it in a different light. Chances are a lot of people don't read the "fine print" which could be the problem. Second, I found more value in the questions that it asked more than the actual results. Some of the questions are clearly based on gender stereotypes which would fit a girly girl but not necessarily all or even most girls. However, there were quite a few transgender-related questions that forced me to sit back and start questioning a lot of my childhood that I had conveniently "forgotten" about. A lot of those questions are good at helping people to look deeper into themselves in search for the answers. I always believe in utilizing a healthy amount of trust balanced with a healthy amount of skepticism. As always, buyer beware but luckily in the case of this test there were no exaggerated promises and it really wasn't ever passed off as something too good to be true. Britney

I have to take issue with your answer Britney. I don't mean to be rude or anything, but I have to go after this kind of nonsense that is put out there in the form of "self Help"
here are some quotes form the test;
first we see this:
"person who is attempting to decide what they want to do about their gender issues"
then the disclamer:
"to provide a clearer indication of the user's gender situation" (hmmm)
then this:
and provides an outline of suggested actions that the user might take with regard to that status.
and this:
who is currently unsure of what they really want or who they really are
and:
It can also be used to confirm or question existing self definitions.
and;
"Something like the COGIATI needs to exist"
UGH....that disclaimer of sorts is clearly there to protect from a law suit. This is total rubish. It can harm people who may not be in the correct state of mind and the strengh to realize it is garbage,
ATTN: there is NO test that can tell u whether or not u are a transexual!
If u have questions, seek out a professional in the field, not some silly, dangerous test that is based on old fashion gender bias.
I work with homeless gay kids who have deep gender isssues. This kind of test is the worst kind of thing they could be put in front of. It is dangerous.
By thE way the author of this test:
"Jennifer Diane Reitz (born 1959 in Baker, Oregon) is an American writer, webcomic author, and computer programmer, known for creating webcomics such as Unicorn Jelly, Pastel Defender Heliotrope and To Save Her, and computer games such as Boppin'."
yeah thats someone we should be asking whetehr or not to start transitioning!

fun to take but worthless if you are taking it I feel you already know what you are.

I think I agree with Doris on this one. Before I started therapy, I used to take these kinds of test online and all they did was make me feel bad about myself when I didn't get the results I was expecting or wanted, I was looking for justification for the way I felt and acted.
When you feel and believe that you are a certain way and a test "proves" otherwise, well that can be devastating.
Professional help from a qualified gender therapist, I feel is the only way to get a true handle on your inner most feelings and the road you take,in my own opinion needs to be based on your decisions (what's right for you) with the guidance and help from your therapist. Not some outcome of a Test. my 2 cents.
