My wife has made some observations of my feminine character. We invited my kids over to the house for a holiday dinner receintly. My two boys came, my daugter and her husband with my two grandchildren and my youngest sons girl friend. It was a very nice time. My wife took some photos and pointed out some thing to me. Sitting in the living room and eating she noticed that the guys were sitting as guys do legs apart and the girls sat with legs together. Well there I am in every photo with my legs together!

She also commented when I was driving her to work that I sat he same way!!
I am totally unaware that I do this!

So my question is "what feminine attributes of yours are showing without you realizing it???

I always sit with my legs together or crossed at the knees the way GGs do. Also, I almost always sit to pee except in men's restrooms. At first this took a conscious action but now it's just second nature. And I curl up on the couch instead of just plopping down on it.

Entering and exiting the car, sit and swing in the legs or swing out and stand.
Reaching down to pick up something, bend at the knees and keep them together.

I used to intentionally do this to practice, now it's become second nature to me, so much so that about 2 months ago a friend noted my action when bending to pick up my car keys I had dropped. He comment, "What are you, some kinda (vulgar word for ladies deleted) ?"
My answer ( not a punch in his nose, which is what I wanted to do) "Just seems easier this way because of my back problem"

That seemed to satisfy him.

Like when I pick things up, I don't just bend over now, I bend my knee's and lower my self down. Bending over especially in a mini is not acceptable. I've also noticed that when I talk now, I use hand gestures more frequently in the same manner women do, keeping my hands arms closer to my body etc.. I also when entering and exiting my car I swing my legs in or out like women.

The more I observe women and want to be one, the more habits I pick up.. :battingeyelashes:

Never really thought about it before - some GGs sit, get in cars just like males - depends a lot on what they are wearing

I sit a lot with my legs crossed at the ankles (my wife hollers if I cross them at the knees), curl on the couch, and bend at the knees (I tell everyone that is the proper way to bend over).
I also am constantly pulling down my T shirt or sweater, making sure it is smoothed out in the back.

I am privately catty about what I see other women wear....

Does that count?

Sometimes I sit to pee.

Actually, my daughter noticed recently that I'm speaking with more infection in my voice. I have been trying to work on my femme voice of late and I think this is carrying over to my male voice

Apparently when sitting down I always bring my hands down over the back of my thighs, even when I am not wearing a skirt or dress, so far no one has noticed (or not said anything to me) except my SO.

None. I'm quite aware of how I appear. For example, you know how some women sit with one leg curled up beneath them? I do too, but I do realize it.

I know that I am starting to bend at the knees more but also caught myself at a wedding (in drab suit and tie) starting to sit as if I was wearing a skirt or a dress. As I was seating I attempted to sweep my jacket tail underneath. Don't think anyone saw.

Seee!! I think that alot of this becomes second nature, after a little practice, but it fits with our own natural inclinations. There are times when out and about that I have to remind myself to walk more like a man!!:D

okokok...we all go through the dressing and makeup issues, and even voice issues, but it's not enough!!! Even with all that, what we DO and how we do it, and what we say and how we say it, and, frankly, how we think, is the very large last step in becoming as feminine as we possibly can!

My interest is knowing what these differences between the gender are and being careful of them! How we sit, how we walk, our speech patterns, how much we smile...all of the things that are different...even how we stand and present our bodies.

I must admit I giggle when I'm in drab and suddenly decide that I'll show some feminine traits by how I walk or stand or sit, or even engage in conversation. I do hope this thread brings out these points so that we can all focus on them and get them under control!!!!

I'm not too passionate about this, am I???

Passion is a good thing! Admitedly there are times when I concoiusly bring out my feminine traits as a daring display. My point is that after years of assimilating female gestures, inflections and ways of being that they become natural and observable perhaps more than we realize, which of course is certainly fine by me. I think others pick up on them and it sets them to wondering:heehee: but of course being out en fem removes all doubt:D

My dear late wife got me to enter and exit a car that way years ago. She said, "it is much more ladylike and certainly easier on the back." Of course she fully supported Stephanie!!

Mt dear Grandma taught me to sit with my legs together when I was a young boy/girl. (I did frequently wear dresses then!) and I have done so ever since. I always sit to go too!

I don't know if this counts, but the other day while watching TV, there was a show on featuring actor Chris Noth.

I off-handedly exclaimed "Oh, that looks like Mr. Big from "Sex in the City", to which my son laughingly commented "Dad, you just so "outed" yourself!"

He knows, doesn't have a problem with me being transgendered, but prefers his Dad to keep it in the "don't ask, don't tell" zone as much as possible so as not to spoil his existing image of me.

have been sitting down to pee for some time .... don't have to turn on lights or wake up. I think my most femme mannuerism is noticing what women wear, or commenting on a new hair style or make-up. I toned it down a bit a while ago because I felt that some women were actually a bit edgy with the recognition. w.

Hi Kelsy,

I'm the same as you and some of the others too. I always seem to sit with my legs either together or crossed. I also hold my arms in front of me like a woman does. I tend to pick things up as described by squatting down and bending at the knees and the real big one for me is talking with lots of hand gestures and limp wrists. Why am I like this? ... because a lot of it is just me, my normal self, but also I have studied my wife and tried to copy her gestures and movements for when I'm en femme but now that I am dressing more and more than ever before, it's almost impossible to stop when I'm not in girl mode (like at work). :)

I have always been very hand expressive when talking, never really thought to much about that. I have been very cognizant of how I get out of the car with my legs together and a swing. I do sit with my legs crossed or together more often now, and that has been one area I am more tuning into. I find myself taking smaller bites when eating, not eating fast and chewing a lot more. I won't attribute that as a predominately feminine attribute, but IMHO most women do eat this way. I always notice what a gg is wearing or little things about her appearance hair, nails, shoes, not a real new one for me. Now that I am dressing more I am really paying more attention to how ladies walk, and carrying themselves in public and other settings. I have always been a people watcher anyway, which is more of my profession verses anything else. I have always loved watching people, but now I do watch women in public, not doing so in an uncomfortable way, but casually keeping mental notes.

Like when I pick things up, I don't just bend over now, I bend my knee's and lower my self down.
Being "somekinda engineer" I have to help working folks to do this. It's ergonomics. I've even made posters for visual aids. I do it with a little more twist and flair, but no one has ever said anything.
Then there's the old chair trick.
"A male stands next to the wall far enough to place a chair between himself and the wall. Place a chair between the male and the wall. Have the male bend over and place his head against the wall with his back being almost straight. Then the male should try to pickup the chair and standup at the same time. 99% of the men can not do it since their center of gravity is in their upper body. So no matter how strong they are it should not matter.
Have a female do the same steps as listed above. She should be able to do it pretty easily since her center of gravity is typically in the lower half of the body.":)

I can't seem to get feminine mannerisms down. I try to sit with my legs crossed, but it is very uncomfortable for me. My hips are too narrow. I watch my wife, how she moves, how she presents herself, sits, walks, etc. I feel so clumsy if I try to imitate her.

I guess I'm just a guy in a skirt........

Alot of times i sit with one leg curled underneath me. I amlost always bend my knees and bend at the waist to pick things up(it`s easier on the back also). Earlier today I found myself holding my hands and arms in a different way......caught myself, I was at work when I did it.

I always sit to pee, bend at the knees when bending down. Because of my job I'm expected to use lots of open handed gestures - found this difficult to master at first. Not noticed how i get in and out the car so I'm gonna have to work on that. Also due to my job I am trying to drop my north manchester accent and this makes my voice sound softer (not sure if that counts though). Sit like a lady brushing the rear as I sit. I also do the wriggles and pull on clothes like GGs do.

These are things I know abot though. if there's anything else then I cant say as I'm not aware of it :battingeyelashes:

Hi Kelsy,

I think the main one for me is sitting to pee. Another I've noticed is that when I sit down in a skirt I brush my hand from my bum to the back of my knees to straighten out the skirt, I've found my self doing this even wearing jeans!

Apparently bending at the knees to pick something up. I always thought it was the proper way to do so, and went along with proper lifting techniques.
The few times I have tried to just bend over though, it caused some stress to my lower back, so I just don't do it.
There is also the way I get in and out of a car, didn't know it was a feminine method until reading here. But, I do have a car that sits low to the ground, and it's the easiest way for me to get in and out of it.

I was told by my wife that my writing can look a bit girly every now and then. I don't write much other than lists and job sheets so I was a bit surprised!! I do try to do things in a feminine way (sit to pee, bend knees to bend over, etc etc) but it is difficult to not give yourself away when in Drab and on a building site :heehee:

I've always crossed my legs when sitting but I notice it more now. I also find how I use my hands is different. Trying to keep my nails long has led me to learn how to move things gently rather than by brute force. I keep the fingers straighter and use the pads rather than the tips. I also notice that I touch people's shoulders or arms to get there attention, something I really never did before.

My wife says she has noticed that my voice is inching up higher, most of the time. Then it will sometimes dive down to it's original low pitch for a few sentances.

Great answers girls!:) I work in construction and I have taken to delicately bending at the knees. I am becoming less aware of the things I do because they are becoming natural to me. I think that sometimes I am clocked as being feminine but I don't try,as much as I use to, cover things up!

One of my biggest behaviors is going up and down stairs. Going up I only place the toe portion of my shoe on the step. Going down, I place my feet on an angle. When you wear heels it's the only way to do it. It then carries on to all footware.

Like many others, I usually sit down to pee the only exception to this is when I'm in a hurry(very rarely) or when the toilet I'm using is so dirty, that you wish you would not even have to use it.
Squatting to pick something up is also something I do instead of bending over, it's also a lot better for my back as at my work I need to do that rather often.
Sitting legs together, crossed over girly is something I love to do, when I use chairs. I have to admit, I rarely use any chairs at all. Never liked chairs, I prefer the floor if possible, still sitting girly though. Depending where I'm sitting I might just sit kinda on my legs, but them slightly turned to a side. On other times I simply sit in seiza(the traditional Japanese way of sitting, you sit on your legs, I usually sit in the more girly fashion which means your legs are rather near each other while the manly way has the legs farther appart) which I've found to be an excellent way to sit when making a dough or when one needs to write something.
Brushing my hair and playing with my hair. Often I've found myself either just playing around with my hairs or brushing it. Often girls have said I brush my hair way more than they brush theirs.
I also prefer to speak in a rather "weak and soft" voice whenever I need to speak. It's not really possible for me to speak loudly, it never was. I find it rather hard to speak out loud in a clear voice.

There's probably a lot more stuff, I just have not noticed yet. I've intentionally tried to make my handwriting look more girly, but so far I've had not that much luck.

EDIT: Almost forgot, I tend to walk in a feminine way. It just makes the walks seem more enjoyable are smooth.

I work on many of these things--walking, sitting, gesturing, etc. in what I have observed to be feminine behavior--, but little of it is "natural"; rather it is conditioned subtlely as a person grows up in a particular culture, or practiced as a person attempts to emulate various role models, or developed for practical reasons such as lifting with the legs instead of the back or getting into a car in a manner that depends on what one is wearing.
Since many CDs, like myself, strive for a more feminine presentation, it is nice that these behavior traits can be practiced to good effect.

I never really thought much about my more femme mannerisms but I've done these sorts of things for as long as I can remember:

-- I curl up on the couch while watching TV (seems more comfy to me :))

-- I cross my legs, ladylike . . . almost all the time (even to the point of twisting them up).

-- I have always sat down to pee. will choose a stall in a public restroom almost always.

-- I curl up into a cozy ball at night (fetal position).

-- I often stand hands to my hips . . . hips shifted so one is a little higher than the other with one knee slightly bent.

All these seem completely naturally to me. . .even if they are seen to be more feminine mannerisms.

Just never thought to note them ;)

Oh and yep I generally sit legs together, sit to go, use my hands when I speak, sometimes put a "wiggle in the walk" and often compliment girls on their perfume, scent, or shoes-this last one actually had a young woman ask me if I was a crossdresser once!

One thing that no one has mentioned here yet that I've noticed for years with girls and adult GG's is how they stand while at rest, waiting in line or especially talking to another woman. The have their feet perpendicular to one another with weight shifted heavily on one. One foot, usually the right is facing north straight ahead while the left foot as at an almost perfect right angle to it facing west, straight left. Why do they stand like that??? Is it because their pelvises are designed differently to allow for childbirth.
Well after watching this for years I vie taken to mimicking the posture myself while standing, at rest, and line or talking.
Anyone else ever notice that?
Its a fashion models stance.

When using a ladies restroom, always sit to pee so your feet aren't pointing in the "wrong" way. Another feminine touch is to unroll and crinkle TP before flushing. Also, as I often wear uncovered pantyhose and a slip in the evening, I've become more aware of how I cross my legs. I'm trying to do it like girls do and to keep my upper legs together.

Well, I don't usually sit down to pee or bend my knees and squat down to pick something up, but I do often cross my legs at the knees, and I also have a tendency to sit with one leg tucked under me. In addition to leg placements and the way we pick things up - which have been mentioned by many girls, a couple of other attributes occurred to me when I started thinking about this question.

On meeting people I now invariably go to give them a hug and air-kiss; I have to consiously stop myself in circumstances where it would be in appropriate. I also find I am much more tactile, touching someone gently on the arm or leg to make a point. This is because I find I am using my arms and hands more in conversation. All these seem to be traits more common among woment than men.

Bare legs "stick" to seats without cushions. I wear pantyhose to splve this problem. Also a bare back is uncomfortable. A short slip solves this, as the shirttail can't pull out of pants. It also covers the tops of panties and pantyhose if they would otherwise be exposed

today my wife and I went shopping for a new coat for her, she handed me her purse so I just naturally put it over my shoulder and began to look at other coats on the rack that she might like. After she made her selection we started walking off while i still had her purse, my wife noticed a woman walking by us that raised her eyebrows at me carrying the purse so my wife said "are you done with my purse?" She just rolled her eyes at me. I just blinked my eyes back at her in a very feminine way.

Wow! reading these responses is kinda revealing. Now I know that I:

Pee sitting down;
Tuck one leg under me when I sit;
Walk with one foot right in front of the other;
Squat to pick something up and not bend over;

Thank God I still have nice loud belch!

Most of the stuff covered here, I do.
* Crossing legs while sitting
* Sitting and swinging legs to get in a car. (This is actually practical for me to avoid bumping my head on the door frame)
* Standing with my feet perpendicular like what Megan wrote.

Some other things I do...
* Sometimes I would look at my fingernails by holding my hand out and extending my fingernails. And I don't even wear polish! (Guys look at their fingernails by making their hands into a ball and turning their palms toward them)
* Using my fingers to tuck stray hairs behind my ear when my hair gets long.

My wife wants me to pee sitting down because I'm tall and she complains that I splash too much.

how about checking yourself out in the car mirror before you drive off to make sure your hair and makeup are right even if you aren't wearing any.

Early signs included having the good 'S' bend back posture. At work once, long before I came out, I was accused of giggling with the women, and told not to. I have tended to sit with one leg tucked under, but have had to break myself of the habit as I got older, since it is not healthy for that leg being under, all the time. I used to speak with a higher pitch voice, until I deliberately concentrated on lowering the tone.
But, I have had to learn a lot new, and relearn old habits that are femme markers.
About talking with your hands, while women are freer with their body movements, I always thought,a man or woman, talking with their hands was more an ethnic thing.

Women talk with their hands. Dick Vitale talks with his hands. Therefore Dick Vitale is a woman; that’s AWESOME, BABY!
