today it was cold very cold and i was on my way to my mom's house with a truck full of fire wood and a sore back . i was not looking forward to unloading stacking and cleaning up the mess....

OK so along the way i stopped to get gas ... again the only thing keeping my mind off my back pain was the cold wind blowing .... dame it's cold ... i got done filling up the trucks gas tank and thought coffee .. there is a coffee shop in the gas station so in out of the cold i went ....

there she was at lest 6 foot tall not at all passable wig ... huge hands and a shadow that showed .... she was a MTF.... dressed for the day ... wearing a cute white sweater ..... ordered her things again not fooling any one .... no one said a out of line word .... she turned my way and i smiled at her she went on her way ......

she did not pass .... but she passed all the same ... she was out and about doing her thing and she stood there confident ... in my eyes she might have been read but she passed...........

i got my coffee and was on my way .... lol i was thinking about her for a while and for a short while i was not thinking about the cold or how my back was hurting........

In my world , being at peace with yourself is much more important that what others think.

I wish I had that gal's confidence.

It's so surprising, if you behave the way you are; be confident. Most people do not even give you a longer look, even if you'd look out of the place.

No matter how you look like, if you seem to fit the society, no one will care or give you a longer look. The people have no courage to try to tease someone who looks strong, so they just ignore them instead. Showing weakness, nervousness is what gives you away and attracts a lot of attention.

Few stories to demonstrate my theory:

We and my wife were sitting at the bench waiting for the bus to arrive. Suddenly we see a clearly drunk person walking nearby. No one gives him any attention, even after the person starting throwing up several times while still moving ahead. Everyone did not start to look at him, not even the little kids paid any attention to them. He did not hesitate or show any nervousness while doing all this, it was like he was a fish in water.

I used to have my forearms covered in bandages, black bandages to be exact. In my whole life I wore them, only my dad and stepmother mentioned something about them. No one else, despite me wearing them to the school. After I moved to Japan for a while, I still continued to wear them there, but no one cared there neither, not even at the school I went.

It was around Haloween, My wife and I were in Wally World getting My costume. I would net that the same person was there. At least 6' tall with curlers in her hair. High heels. Fairly well dressed. Shopping with a GG friend. Very confident in public. But not passing in my book. Really when was the last time you saw a woman in curlers.

Again no one said a word. Just went about thier business. It was almost as if I was the only one that noticed.

Nope, others would have noticed, jut like most of society they are not bothered.

Overcome your own personal fear, and you can do anything.

For one reason or another there are very few of us who can pass. If you are out in public dressed and no one laughs, stares, or points, at you, you may think that you passed, but did you? The Gal you seen at the coffee shop probably thought the same thing. I PASSED.......

Or maybe she just thought why should I bother what others think, I am comfortable with how I present, s*d the rest.

We don't all have this fixation with passing, some of us are comfortable with just getting on whith what we want

I think so.

As a rule passing refers mostly to people who didn't look at you, or even didn't notice you.

The subtle and apparent differences between male and female present Huge obstacles for most CDers to over come if the hope to pass as truly female.
If you go out and fool some people and the rest pay little negative attention and in the end you are happy with yourself and feel your femininity is afirmed ,then what more could we ask for!? That is passing:D

We've seen so many posts on passing but this one is more about the attitude of passing. I admire that girl's confidence and ability to do what is right for her. I'm 6'3" and large framed. Doubt if I could ever truly pass but it would be like her. In my own comfort zone to pass. An excellent lesson for all of us.

I have been out with my SO she's 5'4" I am 6'1" (with heels 6'4") although I am slim build. I have tried to persuade her to wear high heels for me, but she is uncomfortable wearing anything over one and half inches. So when we are out I really do feel everybody in the world and then some are looking at me.
But now reading this thread, maybe not, it has given me some confidence to go out more. Thank you,:)

You blew it! You could have asked her to help you unload the truck. :heehee: But hey, it just goes to show that when someone has that much confidence they have nothing to fear.

She "passed" well enough for herself. Everybody else knew the truth. But rare is the occasion when the simple-minded redneck is going to call her out on it and cause a scene. The odds are she will parade around in public, knowing full well that everyone can see that she's really a guy in women's clothing, but also knowing that no one is really going to cause her any problems. People generally just want to mind their own business and not pick fights. She knows this, and decks herself out in girl clothes, and does her thing. We should all take a lesson from this. If you want to go out and do something, the odds of you pulling it off without any problems are really in your favor.

Remember the picture of a small cat looking into a mirror and it's relfection is a huge lion. it is all in perception. Why do we concern ourselves by what others may think?

The person who doesn't care and is perfectly content in their own skin is so far advanced and will enjoy life much more than the rest.:hugs:

I think so.

As a rule passing refers mostly to people who didn't look at you, or even didn't notice you.

Surely the latter is known as 'blending'? :)

If you 'pass', how can you ever be accepted? And acceptance, IMHO,is more important for ALL of us (even those transitioners who wish to to keep a trans history hidden)..

I believe passing is nothing more than a state of mind. The person you described may well have been read, (after all, you read her), but in her mind she was doing her thing and enjoying it. It's not so much a matter of how others perceive us but how we perceive ourselves. For me passing isn't fooling others into thinking I'm a woman, but blending in with the women that I see in everyday life. If I'm satisfied with Jill, then I have passed.

:iagree: .... great post. Being seen as a CDer but it still being ok and people still treating me with respect is the thing I look for when I go out. "Passing" in the truest sense (i.e. people really thought that you were a woman) is something, that if you really think about it, doesn't actually help get us (transgendered people) get accepted as a "culture" or a "kind of person" (if I can put it like that and in those terms).

In the grand scheme of life, I would love it if one day in the future, being transgendered would someday be considered no more unusual than being left handed (something else that happens at birth that can't be changed). :2c:

PEACE - CONFIDENCE - ATTITUDE - We know that most of us do not PASS, but so what - PASSING is overrated - being true to ourselves and our feeling are more important
