New High In Mistaken Identity?

My college-age son (who knows all about me) was home and visited with one of his old high-school friends.

According to his friend, her Mom had always thought that I was really a woman, that my spouse and I were a lesbian couple, and that he called me "Dad" in public as a way to fit in with the other kids!

It sounds like your son did not talk very much about his parents to his girlfriend. How much did you interact with this friend of your son's?

I interacted with the young woman quite a bit as she was part of a group that I led on campouts and the like. She was over at our home fairly regularly. Perhaps she didn't talk with her Mom much? Or perhaps they didn't talk about me much?

And, just to be clear, she is a girl and a friend of his, but not someone that he dated as a girlfriend.

I was pretty startled, but kinda pleased! My spouse wasn't too crazy about it.

I'd never spent much time with the Mom. Funny enough, just before he told me about it, her Mom and I were both serving pizza at a class "reunion" and, probably for the first time, actually had a chance to talk with each other a bit.
