haha no really here is a post on Obama, bestest president ever after only 2 days

http://hottopics.gay.com/2009/01/obama-outlines-his-gay-agenda-on-whitehousegov.html

HOLY CRAP! jsut finished reading more oh his policies and everything. i could go back working for the intel community if this keeps up. omg that would be a godsend. security clearances are tough enough to obtain, and the skills needed by a intel analyst are invaluable. and id FINALLY be able to stop worrying about money, something ive been insecure about since leaving the military. Not to mention the medical benefits for federal employees! civilian employees are pretty much set on those, and with his policies im pretty sure the g.i.d. and related concerns would be covered.

havent been this happy about being an american in forever. this is the america i joined the service for. its to bad that the military wouldnt accept me when i told them that i could no longer serve as a man.

Its about time that our president represent the IDEAL of America instead of the mob mentality that has prevailed the past 16 years (yes this includes clinton, he was great but still lacking when it came to civil rights for all)

=P im only 28 so the first 10 i wasnt really aware of politics but your probably right. im just glad that we have a prez now that think about equality for all people. to many in this country think that equality has been acheived simple because of a few weak policy changes in the past.

I was looking on the White House website the day of his inauguration and noticed that... But truthfully, while it is great to have a compassionate President, it is what it is: an agenda. Agendas change. And I can only remain optimistic that members of Congress will pass the law. A good website to follow is www.hrc.org. They follow the laws (proposed and passed) more closely...

yes i agree with you on that, but the simple fact that he took the stand he did within the first week of his presidency says a lot about his character. he promised to do these things and he is taking steps to do them within moments of becoming president. that amount of moral courage is something you do not often see in a politician. i for one am relieved and proud at the same time.

Honey, politicians say a lot of stuff in order to get elected. They also promise a lot of stuff to remain elected. Why is he any different? I'm by no means saying that he won't keep his promise, but with other's track record, I can only stay pessimistic. I'd love to see change....

When 911 happened, my liberal friends told me they were glad George Bush was president instead of Al Gore. I agree even now, but look at what else he did!

"Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country...."

JFK said those words and Obama thinks the opposite!

Be careful what you wish for....

Well,

I'm so happy about Obama. If you are too, then don't read the rant that follows.

For once I think that we have a president who really wishes to do good for me and the people I love. He won't ignore AIDS, he won't condone anti-gay legislation, he won't dismiss the poor, he won't penalize schools in ghettos, he won't continue to enrich a very small group of people who have achieved baronial wealth and established a new American aristocracy through treasonous and blatant corrupton.

As for Kennedy's exhortation. I was a little kid when I watched the inauguration in what '61? I remember the speech, and I remember saying to myself, "Wait a minute, we people made this government to serve us, not for us to serve it. He's there to work for me." The "state" exists for the benefit of its constituents, not the reverse.

Love,
Morgan

I hope he does well, I really do.But remember, he is a Chicago politician born of the Chicago machine. Two of his appointees, Emanuell and LaHood are neck deep in the slime that permeates this state.Axelrod is also very well connected to the hip of the players here.Time will tell. Check out columns by John Kass in the Chicago Tribune to get a real idea of how things run around here.

the previous administration did not ignore aids...they gave billions of dollars to third world countries for AIDS, as an example...did they do enough? no

really thought, lets get real...
obama is no different than any machine politician...ie corrupt, bought by special interests, etc..in fact, coming from chicago, i wouldnt be surprised if he's worse...i'm from philly...i would say the same about philly..

alot of people are just glad to get rid of bush, obama did a better job yelling CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE every 5 seconds than Hillary Clinton, so now he's president....

you'll see supreme court come back to left etc, but once people start suffering the taxes and inflation that inevitably follows the "porkfest", i mean "bailout".....

tg issues will not even be on the radar screen in Washington DC

having a large gov't, run totally one party is the worst thing that can happen to the federal gov't in the US>......if you think the repubs spent money in power, just wait

I won't continue the back and forth, with any of my views on the president or issues. I just want to say that Kennedy was urging good citizenship, rather than retreating into one's own world, and limiting one's concerns to only that which affects them. An admirable pursuit, in my opinion.

Hugs,

Melissa:)

No matter what a person's political beliefs are, we should all wish President Obama well. After all, the better he does, the better the country, and even the world, does.

Fun thread. Keep it going. Thank you everyone for your thoughtful responses. We're not just a bunch of Barbies.

By the way, the reason I opened the thread was the black man thing. I once had a black boyfriend who was an excellent lover. And I love black men.

Why is it that the people who HATE President Bush are so hatefull.
??? President Bush has responded to 8 years of politacal hatred with extraordinary class. Twenty years from now veiws about his terms in office will be different. Just remember Dems have set precident that " dissention is the highest form of patriotism" we'll see how thw media portrays anyone who dares to disagree with Obama. I'll bet it wont be as a patriot.

Well, there aren't many men in the world who have caused over 500,000 deaths for no good reason. We may not even get the oil.

I'm also just so happy that a black man is in there. I never dreamed it would happen. All my black friends stand a little taller; there's a different tone in their voices, and there's less noble condescension in mine. I really love Michelle, in fact I prefer her to any of them.

i dont hate bush, quite the opposite really. i feel he choose to surround himself with the wrong people. and that they lied and deceived him, but only to the extent that he was willing to be deceived.

bush was dealt a bad hand, made worse by bad choices and bad advice. its unfortunate but now the republicans will have to play the hand that they have left. and the dems will have thier day in the sun again. politics shift back and forth like that, 8,12, or 20 years down the line the republicans will come back. and whether or not bush's decisions will have been for the best of our country will be decided by history long after we are dead and gone. we can only live in the moment.

and as a response to the kennedy thing.
that statement was spoken during a heavily anti socialist time in the country, anything even closely resembeling socialism was frowned on. countries exist for the people, ours does at least and while im not advocating socialism. i do think that when a federal government starts to restrict freedoms, and enforce religious beliefs on others (same sex marriage debate anyone?) that something should be done.

i myself see this current political climate as a chance for growth in our nation, and i hope we do not spoil it with partisan politics or any other thing that might cause unrest and desention.

Never trust a politician ever

But they are Politicians on the other side, too, so you must vote for no-one?
We may usually be presented with poor choices but choose we must. This time the country chose well. Brava!

It's not socialism you have to worry about, a little bit is nice, like Social Security. It's national socialism that is the problem. National Socialism is capitalism with the government pulling the strings. Bush gave us bailout 1, Obama wants to give us bailout 2. Now, we're closer to national socialism than you think. And you may think that Obama will back up our kind with the fairness doctrine, removal of religion, etc. But, just wait til he's out of office, a guy like Bush is in there, and the rules Obama wanted are still in place. See who gets leaned on then, it'll be us. Welp, at least the trains will run on time.
