It has been a while since I have posted, but have checked in from time to time to see how you all are doing. Tonight while I am still in my business classic skirt and lightly embroidered blouse which us sheer enough to reveal my bra and body slimmer straps, pearl necklace, black tights, and my favorite lipstick overlaid with lip gloss, seems like a good time to share what just happened.

I decided to go for a drive tonight, and spent quite a bit of time getting ready, painting my nails in a light silver, and waiting for the clock to move so I would feel more comfortable out & about. It was after 11:00pm when I went out the door, and drove into the neighborhood. I knew I needed gas, so that was another excuse to go for a ride. I drove to my neighborhood station but drove by since there were lots of cars there, and drove to another station a short distance away. I noticed my gas gauge was below "E", so I was getting nervous, but this station was full of cars, too. I headed back to the first station, somewhat worried that I would not make it. As I arrived, there were still cars, different cars, but I knew I had to stop.

I picked an outside island where there was one car on the inside lane, a woman using the back pump. I drove to the front pump, turned off the engine, and got out. Then I noticed the sign on the pump "out of order". Having no choice at this time, I got back in the car (an older model sports model, requiring me to sit first, then swing my legs in - fortunately I decided to wear my flats instead of heels this time) and it sputtered as I tried to restart the engine. I had run out of gas At The Pump! I was able to get it running just enough to coax it back to the pump the woman was using, and since the pump was between us, she didn't give me a second glance. Ever notice how well lit those gas stations are!? I pumped my tank nearly full, got back in, and relieved that I had gas, I turned the key. The engine wouldn't even turn over!! Sinking feeling. I have been having occasional problems with my battery connections, so I popped the hood, wiggled by skirt-clad body over to side with the battery, and wiggled the negative terminal connection - hard. With thoughts of breaking down en femme at a gas station running thru my head, I got back in and .....yes, the engine started. What a relief!

Thought, since you are out and have a tank of gas, why not do something else? Parked in a nearby casino parking lot near a neighborhood trail, and walked about half a mile (.9K) to an all night supermarket. Walked right in and checked out some vegetables, went up and down a few deserted aisles, and walked out again with my head up, like I do this ever day. Walked back toward my car, and not wanting to waste the evening while out dressed, walked a block on the sidewalk of the street in front of the casino. It was great! My back was to most of the traffic, and there were no honking cars, which was just fine with me. Got back in my car and headed home, a short distance away.

Ok, so can you believe it, my car died again half way home. No power. No lights, no engine. I was close enough to park it by the road and walk home, but then the lights came back on and I was able to get the engine restarted. Safely home, I made a mental note to get up early tomorrow and re-tighten by battery connections!!

Hoping all your Ms. adventures turn out as well.

Yep dead battery would freak me out too, but a simple remedy. Glad you had a great time regardless of the car issues - that's what it's all about ;) Be careful tightening it if it is a sidepost style, they tend to build up oxidization inside and can even strip(a little grease wiped on keeps air and water out of the threads).
Good to see you again :)

Thanks, Tristen. Please tell me you do actually sleep, occasionally.
When out in my car, I always have a pair of blue jeans or sweat pants and a sweatshirt, and a jar of makeup remover pads. Never can tell when you may need to make a quick change if things go REALLY bad. I was lucky tonight, and glad I didn't have to go inside and ask for the restroom key. I enjoy working at blending, but at bit over 6' tall, I like a bit of help from the night, most often. Only go into stores, malls, or out in the daytime when I am feeling very adventurous (like tonight!).

How about you ladies? What does it take to get you out the door?

You picked a nice night for your walk. It wasn't very chilly or raining. Glad everything worked out for you.

I keep all kinds of stuff for emergencies, jumper cables, small air compressor, tools and even spare fan belts. But I've never thought of a set of drab clothes and makeup remover......good idea, I'd hate to have to change a belt in my best dress. Glad you had a good time even though it was a bit nerve wracking.

If a crossdresser walks in the woods (or buys gas) without taking a photo, did it happen? I can attest to the fact that is does happen, camera or not..

Wendy me ...but since you asked, here is one from a previous adventure. Different station, no problems with the car. Very similar outfit.

Stephanie, sounds like you are a local NW gal. Nice to know you may be out there in the same air sometimes. We probably have the same bumper stickers, too.

Jenny-Beth, don't forget a spare pair of shoes, too. I was in flats last night, but often drive in classic pumps. I love the feel of heels, and the sound they make on the sidewalk. Mmmmmm, girly stuff!

Tristen, take a nap. Lack of sleep is not good for your skin, or your eyes. Bloodshot and wrinkled will happen in time, but why rush it!

Lauren,
What a night! And you had the mindset to take a photo! (by the way - you are very passable - go out more!! You have it!)
With the heat down here in New Orleans, and all the gear a CD has to wear; forms, wig, makeup, body shaper, girdle or corsette, hose etc - and then add a broken down car, lifting hoods, getting gas - I must say I'd be sweating all over (makeup and wig can create some heat!!).
Spare makeup remover, wipes, towel, shoes - is a great idea.
I have often thought as I am traveling efem - what happens if a police pulls me over. You can't quickly take off the wig and makeup!! Do you sit there and hand him your male drivers license and wait for him to ask the questions? Or do you start explainining. Is there laws against driving as impersonating another sex? I'll have to remember to be law abiding when efem.!!! :p
Lauren - great post. Thank you. :)
Love
Stephanie

Yes, it is a good idea to be very careful when driving en femme. Even with the change of clothing for emergency situations (hopefully never to be used, like the jack and spare tire, but really comforting to have), you never know what can happen while driving. I spun out on a wet freeway on-ramp a while back and was lucky. No damage, and I just ended up facing the wrong way. It was late and as I sat there backwards waiting to turn around, another car drove by. The look on his face was like he was saying to himself "woman driver!". Priceless! It was a good wake-up call for me to be more careful.

Others have experienced being pulled over, and from what I have read it is best to just use your male voice and drivers license, and not try to avoid the obvious. I would probably say something like "I don't look much like my drivers license picture tonight, but I that was taken during the day." If pulled over during the day, maybe "I was wearing a different outfit when that picture was taken." Together with a shrug and smile, I don't think most police will be too concerned about your appearance if you were just speeding a little. I suspect in most places a DWD (driving while dressed) is not as serious as a DWI (driving while under the influence = drunk driving).

Be careful out there.

Lauren,
That is cute - DWD! I am laughing. It is great.
Watch me get one of those former Military Drill Instructor Police Officers!!!
I will slow down - I don't want a DWD!
Thanks Lauren.

Stephanie

Lauren, first of all, good to see you back! Second, what a delightful account of your "adventure." How on earth did you maintain our composure, girl? Oh, and thanks for the spare drabs and makeup remover tips!
