Why does man/woman or woman/woman holdimg hands walking down the street seem acceptable while two men doing same are targets of abuse.Loads of guys love to watch two women making out but two men would be disgusting.Could be fear of the unknown or fear of what is not socially acceptable.Any ideas.
I think that in some cases when people do that, they're just trying to dirvert attention from the fact thet they enjoy or are interested in that very behavior.Quote:

I am beginning to believe that society in general thinks that "gayness" is contageous, like chickenpox. If you get too close you will get it. So they will warn everyone about a gay couple by exclaiming how wierd and creepy it is.
It is down right embarassing to see this happen. When will society wise up and smell the roses that the LBGT community brings into our lives.

Beats me, people are just people from my perspective. Those who don't accept others for who they are evidently see some personal aspect of themselves they are afraid to confront I guess.:)
I think it's a religious thing. Keep in mind that north america has the most christians of any nation on the planet. Any perceived threat to their faith, like two men making out, is seen as another attack on the sanctity of the bible. They basically associate it with demons and lies and deceit and satanism and etc.
It's an attack on their faith, number one.
It's amusing and won't ever change until the bible removes its offensive language.

I was once a christian, so you can trust me. I thought homosexuality was another example of satan's attempt to deceive us and lead us away from the truth. Fortunately, I grew out of that. I later found out my brother is gay.
Well, perhaps gayness is contagious.
Hear me out on this.
I for the most part have had lousy luck with women, for one simple reason...they have all been nuts. LOL. I am friends with these women, but relationship wise? No way. Not with my income.
The general concensous is, all women are nuts (this is certainly not my view by the way)
It does not help that for the most part women are spoon fed by society that they should be weak, needy, subservient, and so on. There are thankfully many that throw these notions out, however, a proportion of those women end up wanting women.
In the past year I have encountered 3 women that were raped by a male family member.
Now, considering for the most part it is the male of the species that is in fact weak when it comes to matters of the heart, the sight of two men happy with one another, might drive such a person to "test the waters" of being gay.
I'll admit, I tried it...for approximately 30 minutes. No sex, just nuzzling and stuff...I did not like it.
There are a lot of guy out there that are true pieces of stuff on two legs, and want to control everyone. They think anal sex with a woman is just fine, but the same with a man is sick and against the Bible. Got news for them. Sodomy is ANY penetration of the...you get my drift, either male or female, human or animal.
But then again these are the same silly people that say God invented Marriage.
I can't really say that objectifying two women together is any better.
Man / Woman = the guy could visualize themselves holding the woman's hand
Woman / Woman = the guy enjoys being there between them in all of the action.
Man / Man = No way.
I don't why is the way it is, but a woman would have the exact opposite response. They might like being in the mix with the 2 guys.
A lot of the reason goes back to the bible as at least one poster mentioned and our puritan roots. Also people in general are afraid of what they do not understand and most people in the usa and other countries just simply do not understand guys being gay or for that matter men wanting to dress as women. Add to that regional influences such as a "southern redneck" and its a messed up situation. Keep in mind that there are still some churches that believe in snake handling and that god will take care of those that get bit.

Sodomy was not even a word in Biblical times. Not many people are aware of that. It is a word from (trumpets please), medieval times. That's right, the dark ages, when theology ruled the land with an iron fist. When people were murdered for having a differing view. A time the church was 180 degrees opposite of what Christ was all about.
We try to apply terms and ideas in the Bible in a manner that is completely and utterly out of context. That is one of the major areas where contention, in many areas of our society.
Look at us for example. That wonderfully out of place statement in the Bible that supposedly speaks out against us crossdressers. Deut 22.5. There have been many Jewish Rabis, theologians, and other learned individuals that have stated that 22.5 is not what it seems. The words in the actual Hebrew DO NOT denote clothing. They refer to garb used for religious ceremonies.
I truly wish this sort of thing would be paid attention to. It is all about context.
It depends where you live. I'm used to seeing men holding hands with women, women holding hands with women and men holding hands with men. In London no one really bats an eyelash... and in fact the same could be said of most UK cities. In India and Africa you often see men holding hands with each other and not because they're in a sexual relationship with one another either.Quote:

Funny that you mention this, because from straight women I know, I don't know any that get turned on by two men making out, while men get turned on by two women. I wonder if this is based on society, or is there another dynamic involved? Who knows...

One of my good male friends who is rather openly gay is having a Strippers n' Beer party on the 20th. Gay male strippers. Gay female strippers. And, of course, straight strippers.

And if you look at art from lots of other cultures m/m sex is commonly portrayed. Here in the US we're still living with Puritanical or Victorian sexual hang ups. My god, recently Texas legislature sought to outlaw "sodomy" again, without defining which sodomy they meant, or who was to enforce it.

It is ignorance. As time goes on people will understand nothing is wrong with it. I see it sometimes and I admit at first it seemed very strange, but as time goes on and I know more about gay people, they are just people too and realize what they do doesn't have to impact what I do if I am straight. And actually, it is nice to see anyone holding hands. I don't like to see public affection like heavy kissing between anyone though. And although not illegal for a woman or man to walk around without a shirt on in Ontario, I prefer if everyone wore a top while not at the beach.
