Victoria Victor
Most of the older people here will remember the Victor Victoria movie where Julie Andrews played a woman pretending to be a man pretending to be a woman.
That felt like that was my mode today as I went grocery shopping. I had the usual bra and panties but my outer wear was from the men's department. I wore joggers that are pretty much unisex and an oversized button up shirt which reminds me very much of stylish women in men's wear. I wore moderate eyeshadow and mascara a a necklace with a single pearl on a black cord.
I was not overtly feminine and I've seen men's streetwear that was similar, but the vibe definitely felt Victor Victoria. I interacted with the cashier and sacker close enough that they couldn't miss the makeup but it was business as usual and totally comfortable. I had a couple of young women giggling behind me at one point and they seemed embarrassed when I turned around. I don't think that the outline of my bra would show but perhaps... Even that didn't phase me.
My wife had already warned me that my makeup was dark and I just acknowledged what she said and went about my business. One more step...

Be happy in your deeds. The girls seem to be the only ones to figure out my short tennis skirts. Ha ha

Bea. Do you really think the girls were laughing at you or was it just a case that you were overthinking things.
For me, looking at you avatar I find your appearance quite striking and I wouldn't think a little jewellery would have been out of place.
More often than not unless the top was a little tight the bra probably did not show through.

Philippa, It wasn't clear what they were laughing at. They were only about 3 feet behind me when I heard them and one of them seemed to have a sort of deer-in-the-headlights look. My hearing isn't great and maybe one of them said something embarrassing for herself. Not a big deal, but it did cause me to take an inventory of my look and wonder. For me, the interaction seemed to make me feel more comfortable in the fact that I was not bothered, either way.
The top was not tight and I wouldn't think that was it, but don't think my look was enough over the top for that kind of response. I think it just emphasizes the mental gymnastics being eccentric makes one go through.
My style is similar to the avatar (at home) but the avatar is AI generated. I'm just now really starting to get out with a more androgynous/bohemian look.

The take away is that you are comfortable presenting yourself as you are. That is a great place to be.
