How to be more like a girl and change the world!
These are some things I've noticed in my GG friends.
* All of them donated a little money. Each has at least one cause that they donated at least a little money too. One has a great idea I think all of us, no matter how closeted or our income can do. She works out how much she has to spend on clothes and things, takes 10% out and sets it aside before she goes shopping. That money is then colected up and given to a cause she feels really important and she doesn't feel guilty splurging on herself as she knows she's doing something good as well as enjoying her shopping. Imagine if we all did that and spent the money on transgender rights, lobbying for ENDA or for transgender homeless shelters?
* Most of them did some volunteer work. Even if it was just for 30 minutes a week. You can volunteer to help others while still closeted. There are way too many homeless TG people. Just by volunteering to help your local homeless shelter or food charity you'll be helping your fellow transgender people.
* Solidarity. Sure there are cliques and groups of friends but in general they stick together and stick up for each other even if they don't like the other much. Many will go out of their way to ensure that a socially awkward girl is brought into the fold. Not all girls do this but we can learn from thos who do!
* None went anywhere alone after dark if they could help it. Their friends would go out of their way to drive with them to pick up milk or to return a DVD. We are at greater risk than they are so we should do the same for our friends and be their wing-girls whenever possible.
Anyone got any other ideas we can borrow from GGs to make us better people and change the world?
