Interesting...I hear all the time that one should not eat late at night. It turns out that that is not entirely true! Eating spikes your metabolism, and while we sleep, that metabolism goes into a dormant state that can cause an insulin spike when you eat again in the morning. No one is a proponent of gorging oneself just before bed time, but if you eat a little something healthy before bed, it keep the metabolism purring through the night, so that when you eat in the morning (THE most important meal of the day!), your metabolism doesn't go haywire. Instead, it simply picks up where it left off. One key to burning fat is to keep your metabolism running all the time. Instead of three square meals, do six smaller meals spread out over the entire day. And watch the processed foods! They're what's making you fat!
And yes......good bye, beer. Old friend! I'll see you again in 8 weeks, when phase one is over. *Schniff!*

I drink a protein shake before turning in just to keep my metabolism going over night. It seems to have helped me.
Three years ago I lost 20 lbs and three waist sizes by changing my eating habits. I avoid processed and fast foods like the plague and stick primarily to fresh produce, chicken and fish. Smaller and more frequent meals and no soft drinks... just water, unsweetened tea and black coffee.

Absolutely, April. The two ingredients in the average American diet that are most responsible for the current obesity trend in our society are hydroginated or partially hydroginated vegetable oils, especially corn and soy, and high fructose corn syrup, which is used as a sugar replacement in most processed foods. Avoid them, and you stand a much better chance at dropping lbs!

Size never stopped me from dressing I am back down to 166 tho' which is good heath wise.

Oh wait my little pretties until you retire. I have gained about 35 pounds since Sept and I hate myself. Once I quit doing PT 3 days a week I have been miserable. I would like to start back but during my med eval they found some things that may make it impossible to train again. I am now having lots of back pain and stiffness sooooo I am really going to try what Sherry says and if I can get the wife to cut back on what she cooks there may be hope after all. Thanks for the tip Sherry and I wish you the best of luck Marla. I had to do a gazillion sit ups to make my stomach just a little flat. I just love this site.

I'll add my agreement to Sherry's ideas. I've lost quite a bit of weight (including a fair amount of tummy) by cutting out soft drinks (replacing it with water containing a bit of lemon juice, eating fewer meals, always leaving something (preferably starch) on my plate, and figuring out real-world ways to exercise. I hate rote exercising, but doing things like using stairs instead of an elevator, standing instead of sitting, etc. are easy to do.
Remember, anything you can't incorporate into your lifestyle permanently is an invitation to the roller coaster!

Ugh, Marla, same here.
For the first time in my life, I have two little love handles, one on each side and just below my waist. I'm 10-12 lbs heavier than I should be. I can still fit into all my clothes (most have a bit of spandex), but there is the beginning of a small belly and I hate it. I like having a flat stomach.
No more late-night oreos and milk for me! :p
I agree though. Portion control and avoiding processed foods, sugar, and white flour is the only way to go.

The most effective thing that works for me is to eat slowly, and savor every bite... like having comunion with it, then putting away the extras to graze on the next day... my GG GF literally inhales her food, and it is all gone in seconds... so she goes to the Y and rides exercise bikes, and she runs up and down hills... and she is still packing 25 extra pounds... eating slowly is the best thing I have ever done...

Before you resort to the extreme dieting and the ugh exercize regime two suggestions:
Control top panty hose
A good panty girdle

well you can keep up with cding while exercising. They have lots of choices for outfits to work out in. I would not do the akeup though. I luv womans choices to work out in. Good Luck.
-
You go Marla! Good luck, and may your dresses and skirts soon fit and feel great again real soon!
-
Good luck. Otherwise it's a high-waisted panty girdle time or wear a long-line bra (neither of which is a BAD thing).

I've battled my weight all my life. It's probably one of the things that kept me from dressing seriously sooner. But I just couldn't wait any longer. So while I try to ramp up the exercise and watch what I eat a little more carefully, I'm thankful for all the wonderful cute outfits in plus sizes ;)
