I had mine done a Claires in the mall, and no one even cares. The tech was a little nervous, young and all, I'm 58 and this was my first time getting my ears pierced, got 4mm gold balls and have not regretted one bit since. Very few comments from the aquentainces I have and my friends have not really commented on them.:heehee::):)
One of the local malls has a Piercing Pagoda, a kiosk on the mall. They do a lot of ear piercing and no one pays any attention to who is having his or her ears pierced. It is so common these days for guys to wear studs and small rings that it is very common to see a gut getting his ears pierced. If that is to public then there are many tattoo parlors that also do body piercings, including ears. A tattoo parlor is going to be more private; the one in my community is small and tucked away where there isn’t much foot traffic.
I see from your profile that you are in your mid-fifties and it surprises me that you are still so concerned about what others may think. When you are out do you take such an interest in what other people around you are doing? Unless you are doing something to attract attention to yourself most people won’t even notice you; You really need to lighten up a bit, your most likely not that much of interest to anyone around you, especially strangers. In all likelihood you will never encounter those strangers again, so how does what they think in that fleeting moment affect the rest of your life? If you are serious about getting your ears pierced just go do it, in a matter of minutes it will be over.
I got mine done at Claire's in the middle of a local mall on a weekday shortly after opening. There were very few people there and those who were, barely noticed me as they went about their business. I would recommend Claire's for their selection and price. A 3mm stud is the smallest and most inconspicuous and would probably be a good choice, good luck on your decision.
Good post, I just recently have gotten to the point that I am not concern about what most others think. There are a few people though I would prefer did not know. Also since I got laid off I don't want to effect my getting hired. And most important of all is that I do not want to embarassed my wife.Quote:

I went to a tattoo/ piercing parlor and they recommended going to Claires at the mall. I walked into Claires mid-afternoon and got them done and no one seemed to notice or care.
On my right ear, I had better luck with a sewing needle and an ice cube than I did with a hair salon with an ear piercing gun on my left ear. .....that's my personal experience.
I did mine myself and switched and put in the clear earrings very few people noticed

Recently I posted a couple of threads. First was how to hide them from day 1 and the second on where and what. The basic response was just do it, nobody will care or noticed. Well I did it today. Went to the mall and walked past the two places that does it a few times because some women shoppers were there. I finally got up the nerve and went in. The SA was very nice and explained everything to me. My wife is not too happy about it (she hasn't seen them yet) but she didn't say no. My daughter wanted to go with me, but I was afraid she might say something embarrasing, besides she was sleeping when I left. I wanted to do it when the mall first open so there would not be too many people there. (A suggestion from the forum here). I was nervouse but like I said the SA was very nice and helpfull. Now the fun begins. Who will notice and what will they say. Thank you to everyone who responed to my last 2 posts on this.
Good for you Susan for taking the leap. Besure to following the directions on keeping them in and cleaning. There are threads hear about that..salt water solution or spray is very good to use. Hope your wife's views change in time once she sees that its no big deal. I don't wear earrings on a daily basis so the holes are not very noticable when out.
Just to clear something up. I did ask my wife and she said I could, I just don't think she was thrilled about it. I never want to do anything to embarass or upset her about this. I would not go agaist her wishes. If it becomes an issue I will immediatly remove them.

Been wearing studs for years now in drab with no problems. Had questions asked, why, I just said I felt like it or male menopause LOL and that was that.
I keep meaning to get my ears re-pierced. Like a fool I let my holes close.

You know, you can get very manly stud type earrings. And religious one too. I have seen small sports themed earrings, Harley Davidson earrings, and little Christian crosses.

I'm still looking for that gumption. Since I'm still in the job hunt mode, I don't want anything to distract from getting a future employer. Albeit, I've run into many a non-CDr with both ears pierced, even some who are older than me... and that's old.
I heard the best way to conceal is with a short stub of 40 weight fishing line with one end flattened on the iron. It's only a matter of time for me as the good lord gave me some great lobes to work with and the clip ons are getting to be a pain...

Not to make light of the job market, especially the number of layoffs, etc, but for anyone who unfortunately is laid off or finds themselves unemployed, it almost seems the best time to get ears pierced. Now this is not in all cases, but getting over the emotional sting of job lost and getting that first interview, the time between could be 4-8 weeks or more..which is the time for most ears to heal.
To do it right about the time an interview opportunity may come about could offer delimas in affecting the healing or having them being seen. Some will say it should not matter, but if you are even thinking of about that idea, then its a problem to you and that changes how you act, especially for an interview.

I took the leap last night. I went to a piercing and tattoo parlor in west hollywood on Sunset. Great experience, I got a pair of black medical grade steel captured ball rings.
That said, one of my employees noticed. On the way down to a meeting, my boss noticed. My primary 'internal customer' also noticed and called me Mr Clean (I'm bald, but so is he). And some of the girls I talk to on that floor noticed (and were complimentary). So there's that.
However, no big deals were made of it. I was asked why "Mid life crisis" or "I wanted them" and that was that.
I know for facial piercings they have retainers, which is just a clear stud which is unnoticeable. But I'm not sure about earrings.

Some members have posted that they use a short piece of fishing line placed in the hole. I have also read that some have bought clear plastic studs that are very small, both front and rear, and almost invisible. Hope this helps.
I got my ears pierced last wednsday. So far nobody who I didn't tell has said a word about them. However I haven't yet seen anyone that really knows me well. There are a few I am worried about, but I think I am prepared to answer.
One thing I'd love to do is have my ears pierced. OK, so I know many men today have both ears pierced and it seems to be acceptable to many if not most. Yet at my age I fear that my employer or co-workers might say something about it. I wonder...How many non-CD men that are say 55 plus have their ears pierced. How common is it?
As for the fishing line trick, I've heard about that years ago. Funny thing is I manage a fishing tackle department and have plenty of line! lol

I had my ears pierced on my vacations y used earings for 3 weeks then came back to work and take it off. No one noticed, no coments on work, friends or family, just had to use my earings in the night to prevent healing.

I had a lot of good advice from everyone. It's been almost 2 weeks now. I am looking forward to trying new earrings. My question is now, after the 6 weeks with the pierced earrings what post earrings would be acceptable for a guy in his 50ties?
Okay its been almost 4 weeks and no one had said a word until today. I am presently unemployed and have been taking this career transition class at the local university. The topic today was networking and the issue was brought up about presenting yourself and first impressions. Boy did I get a lot of grief about the earrings and I thought no one had noticed. First I was a little embarrassed but then I thought who cares what others think, I am glad I did it. Of course I will take them out before any interview.
Congratulations! I want to get mine pierced but I can't just yet. I am glad you got up the courage to do it and I hope it does not efect you getting a job. I am not sure what earrings you are wearing but I have seen lots of guys with pierced ears and nobody says anything. I am sure you will do fine in an interview!
I see a lot of men in all age groups with pierced ears, some wear small hoops, some a small gold stud, some a small gem stone, usually a diamond. I know, I know, I live in California, but I don’t think pierced ears attract any attention anywhere anymore. I’m planning on having mine done soon and I plan on small gold studs.
I want to pierce my other ear (i've had my left pierced since I was 16). I just need to get the nerve to ask my wife!

Both my ears have been officially pierced 20 years ago , and I do not care what anyone says.
I turned 60 last month and my ears have been pierced for 30 years. I don't wear earrings in drab and nobody has ever said a word in all that time about the apparant holes.
NathalieX66 is right, the fishing line trick works great. My ears are done 5 times on the left, but only 4 used, and one on the right (desperately want one more). My right nostril is also pierced and all holes have been subjected to the fishing line technique. I don't wear earrings in male mode, and have had very few comments. A non-committed answer usually ends questions... Good luck with it, there is no comparison to the feeling of having earrings swinging from holes through your ears ;-)
I had my left ear pierced nearly 30 years ago, on a sudden whim, whilst working away from home. When I mentioned this to my parents on the usual "Friday night 'phone call home" they went ballistic !! I kept the sleeper in for about ten days and then removed it and the hole healed up of course. I have thought about having both ears done on a few occasions recently and this time I will make sure that they establish.
Had mine done 2 weeks ago Friday. Last day of school, I'm a teacher. Went to Claire's and ahad a nice girl do them. I'm 62 years old and she coached me right along.
As far as comments, it took my wife about 30 minutes to notice when she got home from work, no real comments,but looks could kill.
My son, home from college thinks they are really neat.
Ohters, when asked, I just say that I needed to do something differeent.

It's weird. I've started looking at guys on buses and in the street - to see if they are wearing earrings/studs. We must be a bit behind here, I've only seen two blokes with both ears pierced in the last month or so. Both of those were tattooed blokes and neither of them dressed for office work. It makes me think that I'd stick out like a sore thumb if I got mine pierced.
Is it bad to be noticed .......to be viewed as an independent thinker....... a leader not a follower, etc.? :)
I post earlier in this thread that was thinking of getting my ears pierced. Well I went and had mine pierced a little over two weeks ago so I have about another four weeks to go with the 3mm gold balls. Only one person has said anything and that was today by a woman who lives down the street. This particular woman was out in her yard a week ago when I walked the dog while I was dressed enfemme. Today she smiled that knowing smile and asked if the piercing was new. Oh yeah, my Mother noticed last week when I went to visit, just asked when I got the earrings, I told her, and that was that.

I have mine done 3 in each ear 2 in the bottom and one in the upper. My Girlfriend does not mind them she done them for me , i wanted them like this as thats what she had when i first meet her ( she has a 3 more now) She love my tops in only when i am boyish but she is cool with the rest of them.
I love them so much would not have it any other way now.
