Desert Storm (1991)
Paternal grandfather: Coldstream Guards served in Flanders and northern France from 1914 - 1918 - wounded three times.
Maternal grandfather: 8th Army North Africa WWII. Posted MIA until discovered in a remote field hospital 6 weeks later.
Father: Transport Corps but missed Malaya conflict when transferred to Pay Corps.
Myself: Selected as a naval flier but flunked the medical - colour blindness does not mix with landing copters on a deck. Otherwise I would probably have served in the Falklands conflict. As it was I met my lovely wife whilst doing charity work in support of our brave servicemen.
Rule Britannia!
Thank you to all who have served! :hugs:
:usa:

I left the Oriskany in May of 1955. After several years in the Mothball fleet, the carrier was sunk to become a reef off the coast of Pensacola, Florida in 2007. From what I have learned, she is the only ship ever sunk like that which is sitting on the bottom totally upright!! Some of my old shipmates have dived on her!
USN 82-85
USNR 85-87
USN 87-10
Retired after 28 long years but wouldn't have traded it for anything..so many different commands/locations. Including USS Constellation CV-64 and USS Inchon MCS-12.
A great THANK YOU!!! for those who served, those serving, families/friends of those who serve/d..and anyone who stops for a moment and thinks of them...

USNR '02 to present. FH Dallas, never had to go overseas.
22 years in all- enlisted (3) and commissioned the rest of the time. Oh- just speaking for myself but please don't thank me- I should thank you (the taxpayer) for providing me an opportunity to have a great career. I joined the military because (as a teenager) I never, ever met retired military who regretted their career choice; hard to imagine there are many jobs with that sort of endorsement. I'm now one of those examples. The last few years were a bit disappointing as the profile of the average military member seemed to become more intolerant- perhaps it was just a reflection of greater society. For the majority of the time it was great- even the deployments.
I have to add to my other posts on this thread that I seem to be the oldest Veteran CD on here. No one else seems to have been in during the Korean war! And yes, it was a war, NOT a Police Action as some would have you believe! Even in the Navy we did get our ships shot at!!
Here's a link to a series of photos of the controlled sinking of the former USS Oriskany on 17 May 2006.
