Sarah Bernhardt who has been called "the most famous actress in the history of the world." (She died in 1923, so you may not have heard of her.) I apologize for the lousy quality of this picture, but it's the only one I could find. It is a scan from a daguerreotype. It should be brown and white not black and white. I cleaned it up a bit, so now at least it's presentable.
To create this portrait, she had to sit perfectly still for two hours! She was such a classy woman she could make a pile of sack cloth look like high fashion. By all accounts she was a kind and gentle person. What a lady!
