It hardly seems surprising to me that people are jealous of their privacy and anonymity on this forum. I would guess that the primary reason we belong to crossdresser/transgender sites on the internet is because they are anonymous, and we can expose our fears, concerns, delights, and disappointments without fear of revealing information that someone whom we know can use it against us in the future. I would analogize the closeted crossdresser's need to discuss her inner conflicts with Raskolnikhov's need to confess his guilt in Crime and Punishment. The need to explain our actions, especially those which we have been programmed to believe are anti-social, is very human.
This forum has several threads dealing with personal embarrassments which have occurred after a family member, neighbor, or co-worker has learned that a person is a crossdresser. That should be evidence of the dangers of revealing more about one's identity than a person is comfortable with.
I live in a major industrial corridor with about seven million people, so I feel comfortable listing Pittsburgh/Rust Belt, but if I lived in Podunk Hollow, population 799, I wouldn't.

Your location information is very important. It gives others like us an opportunity to perhaps contact you and make new friendships. I'm not 'out'. I live in SoCal and I listed my county. It has a large population, and I felt safe in doing so but not so to list my city... too small.
