"Are you Barb?"

Huh? I never thought I looked that feminine in drab and don't get Ma'amed like so mamy others seem to so was I surprised when the woman teller at the bank drive through window asked me if I was Barb?

I drove up to the window and threw my check in the tray and looked at the teller and smiled... We were like 3 feet apart.. Face to face separated by the glass.. And after a few minutes she says "are you Barb?". I said "excue me?". Again "are you Barb" and she held up this check that was signed by Barb... It wasn't my check. It was the lady in the other lane... "Uhhh that's not my check". "Oh".

Ok so what just happened here? She was as serious as could be and thought I could have been "Barb". Guess being called a female name is equal to 5 or 10 Ma'ams?? I'm catching up!! Lol. Ever been mistaken for a female.. In drab?

I went through the drive window, under the golden arches, and got ma'amed when I paid. I was totally endrab. It was great. I didn't correct the girl.

If it weren't that they'd have you on video and have your information in their computer, I'd have taken the money...

Karren, if you have plucked eyebrows, long fingernails and hairless arms, you are sending off mixed gender cues. How do you keep you hair in guy mode?

Maybe she was just trying to figure out why a guy had a girls name?

I don't know if the exchange rate is at 5 or 10 Ma'm's but the "rate of return" for you had to be enormous! Way to go girl!

Before I started transitioning and my wife was still alive, there were a number of times I'd be doing something for my wife and the person with whom I was interacting thought/believed/treated me like I was her. That was a wonderful feeling and worth at least 10 ma'ams. For the record, I never corrected them.

my given name is "Kim" so I get questions like that all the time.

I could think of other names for Penguin fan hon:heehee:

Karren, you really do get the action!! The only time that I have been called Ma'am, or anything feminine, was when my late wife got me ready to go out in public. I am a man, and certainly look it. Since I no longer wear makeup or a wig, I doubt if I will ever be taken for a female again!!

Just remember "ma'am" is young person code for old lady.:)

It just caught me by surprise.. Not like I was acting uber fem at the time mater of fact I was getting perturbed because I had waited in line so long and just wanted my money! I can't remember a time I was ma'amed when I was out enfemme let alone in drab.. And then right after that I went to the post office and some guy held the door for me!! Wtf is going on? Hello!! I'm wearing a brown male business suit with a Pittsburgh Penguins tie.. Maybe that's the connection.. Did feel so good afterward I went and got a cheese burger.. Now I just feel fat and ugly. God I hate these mood swings

Karen next time try using the atm no threat of mistaken identity there. Most of the time there is no line at least around here.

BTW the greatest fans on earth aren't even hockey fans they're nascar fans more specifically Dale Jr fans.:devil::D

I think she was just confirming that the person cashing the check was the person who signed...

I was asked once if I was "Susan" because of an order mix-up at a take-out restaurant. I looked at the server and said, "No, I'm not Susan" (in a calm voice. Then the person, still trying to find Susan, looked at the order and asked me if it was my order (saying to you get a "this and a that").

No Karren, although she may have called you Barb you are still our Karren and sweet as hell. Crazy............................................. .. maybe but sweet non-the-less.

Only mistaken once in drab, but it did feel good. :D I was sitting in a restaurant with my wife, and the server walks up from behind and says are you ladies having a good day so far? Not that i know of..*wonders if the guys who whistled thought i was*...but the lady at the jewelry counter saturday said I was " a very sweet girl" right before I left :heehee: No indication that she realized what she said and didnt try and correct it.I just smiled :)

I worked as the body shop manager in a car dealership and the owner came in asking if I had a Nancy working for me and of course I didn't. He kept trying to get this woman into the dealership that wrote a letter thanking him for having Nancy there to help her out. The customer eventually made it in and when brought into the shop pointed to me and said "There's Nancy". She was old, but I did get the pat-on-the-back. At that time I was still in the closet so I had no one to tell. Thanks Karren; now my story has been told.
