Diet to dress, or dress to diet?

I don't know about you, but when I spend the better part of my day(s) transforming myself into Ilsa I find that I don't spend a lot of my time thinking about food. I concentrate more on making myself as good looking as possible from head to toe which doesn't leave much time for eating. I also try to stay away from food when I am dolled up because I fear staining my clothes or messing up my makeup.

However, when I do eat it is usually a light fare and in keeping with my girlish personna will consist of a glass of wine an hors d'oeuvre or two and a light entrée. Bon appétit! The next day I find I've lost weight.

Of course exercise is important, but you will not see me doing Pilates or wearing tights to exercise in.:eek:

If you're diet conscious how do you maintain your girlish figure so that you may fit into that size 8 dress?:lol2:

Alas, Size 8 will never happen. I have been on a very deliberate weight reduction path for the better part of eight years, involving light weights, aerobics and consistent careful eating. I'm down some 50 pounds, and hoping to continue dropping about five pounds a year for the next few years.

The reason to watch your diet is to be heathy. Eating well (and the means both enough food and good food) will result in a better figure in both male and female mode. I take in a lot of good food every day, regardless. Starving yourself or cutting back hard actually causes you to over eat later.

I am very self consious about what i eat and what i weigh and yes it is because of my girl clothes .It is becuase im am in the closet and when i shop i can buy clothes without trying them on .Sometimes they are a tad big but i can live with that :)

I am far more concerned with losing weight and exercising to be healthy. I am trying for a lifestyle change so I can enjoy my granddaughter longer.

While it's certainly nice to lose some weight and fit into more clothes, I'm more concerned about getting my diet under control to avoid the diabetes that runs in my family. I've recently stopped eating junk food and drinking beer on a daily basis, drink water instead of soda, started walking 3-6 miles a day again, and have lost a noticeable amount of weight in a short period of time. I don't think I look much different, but I feel a lot better.

Size 8? I was happy when I finally got down to a size 18! I started a new exercise and diet program recently for health reasons. (I think I was turning into some kind of fungus.) But I can't say it was directly related to crossdressing.

Size 8 will never happen. My body type is not going to change. I maybe able to flatten the tummy and get somewhat of an hour glass figure with a light girdle, but, a Barbie I will never be. It is more important to eat healthy. Doing that will prevent weight gain, and, help lose weight. I thought I always ate healthy. It was a well balanced meal with meat and vegetables, but, there was also the dreaded whites; rice, potatoes and pasta. With the help of some toxins man should not ingest, I ended up with diabetes on the low end of the scale; treatable with diet and exercise. Now I am pre-diabetic. I read the back of boxes, cans and jars. No corn syrup. No calories that have no nutritional value. Just read the soda pop can: 150 calories. Why drink that? Check out the exercise equipment at the gym. It takes a long time to work off 150 calories. Why eat that crap to begin with. I was a healthy guy with a fine muscular military weight of 175. I ended up 215 and felt sloppy and looked sloppy. Now, I am 190 pounds. I'm six foot even and look fine. I may not be a size 8. However, now I'm into sizes that have an ample amount of attractive dresses.

I have noticed that I have got a bit of a tummy and I hate it. I am going to try to lose it because it will make me look better in my outfits and there is the health issue. If anybody here knows a good way to loose a few kilos off the tummy then please pass it on. I am going to cut down the wine and pasta. But I never eat junk food anyway. Lets hope i can rid myself of the extra because i don't like it and it makes me feel worse about myself.

My MD told me to eat less - move more. Simple guidelines that got me from a hefty 230 to around 180. I walk about 5 times a weeks and do all those other things, like take the stairs, park far from the entrance...etc... I eat five small meals a day and fill the voids with fruit and vegies... It still takes a corset to bring the waist in but I'm a work in progress.....

Exercise and diet has always been part of my life and my job. I tend to eat several smaller meals over the day, exercise in the morning try not to have too much alcohol during the week. I have maintained a body weight between 150 and 175 (now at 150 which was my fighting weight).

All of the above for me. It helps to get a motivational kick. Like being diagnosed with type II diabetes two years ago. "Lay of the sugar, ice cream, eat smaller portions of healthier food and exercise or your leg will fall off". :eek: Or so the suggestion went.

Today, 150 instead of 180, I enjoy cycling so that is an almost daily activity, I park on the far side at Walmart and walk in and, gasp, I'm eating salads and salmon and healthier yummies. Best of all, no medications and I'm back to no diabetes.

Nice to have regained a slim waist. Now, if I can get my butt out of the closet I might actually find out what size dress I could snuggle into. :c9:

I've always tried to be conscious of my weight and health but somehow I let my weight get up to almost 190lbs. I couldn't fit into any of my clothes anymore! I needed to do something so I went on a diet and added a 4-5 mile walk to my day. It's not complicated... less meat, more vegetables and less sugar. I quit drinking soda, iced tea and sugar in my coffee (that was pretty tough actually). I also had to find a substitute to satisfy my horrible sweet tooth so I started eating yogurt. It's sweet and far better for you than cookies and cake. I've managed to stick to this diet rather well but I don't try to be perfect, I still get some Krispy Kremes now and then, just not too often.

Over the last 6 months this routine has let me lose a little over 40lbs. Losing that weight and walking has given my a lot more energy.

... and the real reason I've been putting myself the diet... cross dressing.

I've lost 20 pounds in the last 3 months by doing what everyone else has mentioned - eat less (especially at night), move more, eat fruit when my sweet-tooth rears it's ugly head. I did it because I was tired of the belly and because my femme wardrobe is so small. It's much less expensive to diet down to my wife's size than to finance an entire woman's wardrobe.

I am with Jennifer. A diet should be a healthy thing. Eat sensible and get exercise. But I do notice if I get a day to dress food will be the last thing on my mind, but it is because I am so preoccupied. As far as dress size I hope I never wear a size 8 again.

Hi Isha, I'm 5'12" 220# +or- 2 and I step on my scale every day so my weight stays the same.
My size 16 skirts & jeans and my size 1X or 18 tops always fit perfectly.
I like to go walking with my dog .

Sue is diabetic and has had a stent put in, so we are careful about our diets. It is about staying healthy, and with exercise the weight takes care of itself. (I'm 5' 10" / 154). But I have noticed this: if I am out and about, or en femme at home, I take smaller bites and eat less. Anyone else find this?

Maybe eating Out and About is a way to diet??

Back in the day I used to be very fitness conscious. Actually built my day around my workout, bike, swim, run routines. Never worried about what I ate. Instead, focused on taking in enough calories to keep going and sustain my powerlift status. About 15 years ago I moved, then moved again, then moved again and again . . . throw in a few job changes and -- bam! I had all but phased out of exercising but kept my old eating habits. "Swoll up like a tick," as they say down here. Have been working to change that for the last two years, but dressing has had little if any influence on my habits.

All 100% Diet to Dress. The desire to fit into smaller outfits was the only way, incentive, and motivation to change a lifetime of junk food, fast food, fried food, high sugar food, drinks, buffet's etc. I still do have a slight binge eating problem but it will consist of bingeing on an entire can or cans of almonds, tuna fish (mercury is good for you!)bottle of olive oil, bags of broccoli etc. Not perfect by any means and of course excess calories is excess calories in any manner it's just not as demoralizing as the 3 hamburger, extra large fries with extra salt, extra large diet coke (makes even less sense), chicken fingers with sugary honey mustard sauce days of gorging.

I'm not really diet conscious, but I'm not a big eater.. so my portions are usually on the smaller size. Usually less than 75 grams of rice, potatoes, pasta.. lots of veggies.. and meat/fish a few times a week.

And of course, karate and jogging helps as well! :)

One diet that I have found to be effective is the weight watchers diet.

I've been oversize for more than 30yrs. I'm 176cm (5'7") tall and weighed 115kg (254lbs). I was sick of missing out on doing stuff (missing out on life!) because of being fat, inflexible and unfit, but my liking of food over rid my desire to loose the size. Wanting to fit into regular size girl clothes rather than having to restrict myself to the 'plus size' racks was what stirred me to commence dieting, and is keeping me going. So far I've lost 10kg (22lbs) in 10 weeks. Currently the incentive is to fit into a purple bustier I found at an Op shop that I just couldn't resist! I'm going to look fabulous!

I don't need to diet, I take thyroid meds which cause automatic weight loss. I weigh about 140 lbs and can easily slip into a size 8 dress,

I diet as part of my lifestyle anyway, one extra plus on the side is that it does help maintain my figure. But size 8? Is it possible to be that thin while remaining healthy? I consider myself pretty darn thin (like, you can just about see my ribs) and I can only squeeze into a size 10.

Ilsa I walk the dog twice a day my weight is now static at 152lbs, UK dress size about 12/14 depending on label.
I do most of the meals now so I get to wear my apron as well, but I really need some lower heels, 4" heels around the kitchen may be good for calf muscles, but my arthritic toes aren't so happy !

Definitely diet to dress here. I am five foot eleven inches tall with a light-boned frame, and I also have a compulsive gym rat personality, so I don't have too much problem keeping my weight between 145 and 155, which is a very healthy BMI between 20 and 21.5. However, the Hip/Waist ratio and the disparity between my hip width and shoulder width are both problems for me as with a lot of other cross-dressers. I have to watch what sort of calories I eat, and what exercises I do, so that I retain as much weight as possible in my hips and thighs, minimize my waist, and try not to bulk up my shoulders and arms. I try to keep my waist under thirty inches and my hips at thirty-six, which is a ration of 0.83, which is at the upper limits of what is considered to be attractive for a G-Girl.

My pitfalls are Kaukauna port wine cheese, Ritz crackers, and Merlot at cocktail time, and an obsessive need to overdo it on the lats machine and pullup bar at the gym.

Dieting to fit into a cute skirt, but it is a healthy lifestyle.

What works for me is keeping my Carbs below a 100 a day when I need to lose and then when I just maintain I eat more carbs but healthier ones like wheat bread, Brown Rice and wheat pasta where I can substitute.

I thought that was kind of funny until I realize it was nearly 2 PM and I hadn't eaten lunch because I spent all morning dressing... :facepalm:

sometimes i buy and wear clothes that are a bit too small & tight or revealing in private...so i can look in the mirror and remind myself to stick with it and see what areas need work sometimes i will even workout in them.. Most of those clothes now actually fit well. And I had the privilage of throwing out some other clothes that are too big now. I use it as inspiration to continue to try (keyword) to eat right and continue my workout routines.

exactly what I do too. buy smaller clothes and it keeps me on my food program

I do have my perfect figure in mind, actually I saw it at the carnival last week... Just stunning, and its now my new mental vision.
I make a diligent effort to aim towards that target and eat drink and exercise to get there.
I weigh in every day before my shower and am happy to see the numbers go down. and hate it when they go up. I must be doing somethings right because I'm able to get into a lot more of those dresses that I could get over my head last year.
12-14 is a good size for me, but 10 shorts fit PURRfect.

Here's where I'm at: One, I am calorie conscious but not obsessive. Two, I love running and try to get out at least 4 times a week for a somewhat intense workout. That has been the big plus in terms of keeping the waste trim and legs in shape. The tough part, as I am in my mid-40's...the wear and tear of running outdoors. Third, sleep and hydration.

I would agree. I like being thinner - and best of all - the outfits that I can wear.
I went from 340 to 178 so I guess that would be a loss of 160 pounds 5 years ago.

Certainly there is more selection available (for both GG and CD) when at the 170's, but sadly - the broad shoulder still require a size 12/14.
I'd be happy at about 160, but I will never see that. 178 is much more realistic. Now, if I could just get rid of all this extra skin.

Many GGs today can't fit into a size 8 either (the average being a 14 today), and very very few of us will ever fit into an 8 just due to our bone structure and muscle mass, no matter how thin we get. Feeling bad about that is like feeling guilty about not being able to breathe underwater, it is pointless getting upset about not being able to do something that is impossible.

I need to lose weight. I am 205 lbs.

If I would get down to 150 lbs I would feel and look so much better since i already make a very passable woman as well as a near woman's voice.

I would also be able to cross my legs like a woman as well.

I have cut down on my eating and have been going to the gym three to four times a week.

Maybe a special diet from my doctor or weight watchers.

However after a certain age it is very hard to lose weight.

May have to just accept being a somewhat pudgy woman.. Just dress well, work on my mannerisms and keep up the work with the voice.

About 7 years ago after a bout with prostate cancer I found myself at almost 240 lbs. Though I was (am) over 6'3", I still had a noticeable paunch and couldn't fit into my size 14 wardrobe I had collected. I gave myself 3 months to lose weight or (heaven forbid) give up crossdressing.

Three months later I was about 190. Three months more I was at about 170. That appears to be a perfect weight for me and my wardrobe has exploded since then. I have a 30" waist now (less with a corset) and can fit into, yes, a perfect size 8 dress or skirt.

Since I've lost weight, my blood sugar level is perfect, my "trick" knee and lower back pain are gone, and my cholesterol is great (LDL in the 80+ range).

I have to say that I'm lucky. I seem to be able to metabolize carbs without gaining weight. I had tried the Atkins diet with my wife but the fat would just glob on to me. Carbs don't seem to affect me, and wine seems to help me lose weight, too. At my annual physicals my doctor thinks everything is great.

I definitely diet to dress and I really believe it has extended my lifespan.

So, girls, focus on your dressing. Tell yourself that instead of eating that next piece of pizza that you'll save it for the next meal and use the money you save for your clothing/makeup account. And, by the way, I started this in my early 50s and I'm almost 60 now. So even us "more mature" girls can do this.

I'm certainly a daintier eater when I'm dressed...can't ruin that lipstick! But I'm happy with my weight...I'm 6'3" and have trimmed down from 220 to 205 through one a day workouts, four games of golf a week, zero sugar, zero soft drinks/fruit juices, and hardly any bread. Can now fit into some size 18s...feels great!

I believe for me it goes both ways...I have a wonderful nutritionist that I have been seeing since December...I have lost 150 pounds since then...by mostly changing my eating habits. She knows me in male mode....but knows about Julie...she is very cool. She says it seems to her I am more relaxed and eat much better as Julie. I know everything is connected and I just recently began dressing much more, came out to some friends...forced out in a way...and gone out in public for the first time! I have to believe me putting weight on(I have lost before) was subconsciously fighting my need to dress more openly...as I did not feel comfortable. Thank you for all the positive stories! I think you are all correct...In the end it is all the dressing and the weight healthier. My regular doctor was very happy with my weight loss and blood pressure. She doesn't need to know my need to feel more feminine...I stopped all soda...diet or otherwise...very little sugar...more fruits, veggies and a small amount of nuts...I learned that I am not on a diet...a made a lifestyle change....ummmm why yes...xox julie

The words Julie used in the post above is what makes the difference, I think: lifestyle change. I initially needed to lose weight in order to be able to eliminate some of the prescription drugs. That time corresponded with discovering Tina, although that is the only relationship between those two events. To lose the weight I did change my lifestyle where it comes to food. By dropping portion size I have become able to eat less without being hungry, and that change is permanent.

Now I have the luxury to decide just how much less body mass I wish, abd at least some of that decision is a consideration of what improves Tina's appearance. I think 15 pounds will do it, but I a doing that loss slowly so that there is less chance of putting it back after the loss. A year from the Jan. 1st is the goal!

Brava, Ms. Julie! I'm so glad you've been able to find a solution that works for you. As you say, it's lifestyle change, but it's one that will benefit you for the rest of your life.

Happens to me, too! So, I guess I am a dress to diet girl!

A little bit of both

one thing to be careful of ------ make sure your calorie intake fits your activity area if you go the route of self starving yourself to lose weight your body will kick in to the famine mode and you will lose muscle mass before fat this can be serious. good luck I am in the same boat I was taking selfies of my new panties today and there was the glaring and accusing shape of ol snack belly !
