As a boy of the 1950's I agree with Char (#10) that girls were highly discriminated against in the 1950's when it came to playtime. It seemed that females from little girls to aged adults were "required" by the social graces to dress up for family holidays and church. Female students had to wear dresses or skirts/blouses to school, even on freezing days. Playtime? Little girls could wear shorts in the summer until a certain age when they were expected to wear dresses. /I].
