Experiences with doctors?

We have recently moved to a new state about 900 miles from our previous home. I am 76 and a disabled veteran. Thus, I must use the VA for certain limited visits in order to get all my meds at no cost. However, I prefer to visit private physicians as the continuity of care is better that the musical chair doctor system I've seen at the VA. Anyway, I'm about to be assigned a new PCP at the nearest VA facility; and, I'm going to hunt down a new PCP in private practice. Because I had a cancerous prostate removed years ago, I'm no longer subjected to a DRE at the doctor offices. Thus, wearing panties to doctor visits hasn't been an issue. Now, however, I've become quite accustomed to wearing bralettes with inserts as well as stockings and garter belts on a daily basis. I know every doctor's visit I have will involve a stethoscope as the doc listens to my heart on both my chest and my back. Because I'm diabetic and suffer nearly 100% neuropathy in my feet, my previous doctors would often check my feet for the degree of neuropathy I have. I understand those who dress en femme 100% likely go to these appointments dressed as usual. I'm curious as to the experiences of those that only under dress when they visit the doctor. Do you still under dress in bras. panties, and stockings or do you leave the bras and stockings at home? If you do wear, what has been said, if anything? If any of you have neuropathy in your feet (or are in the medical profession), do you know if the stockings need to be removed for the doc to check out your sense of feeling? I ask these questions as I really want to go to these appointments wearing as much of my intimates as is reasonable.

When I go to my PCP I wear my Jockey No Panty Line Promise bikinis in black. The Doc has seen them but no reaction. One time I was there for a regular checkup and another Doc asked me to take off my sneakers and socks, I’m thinking Damn, I took them off and the Doc and his female assistant got to see my pretty pink toes, a bright pink. The Doc did not flinch but his assistant certainly smiled some.
I say go with what you are comfortable with.

Hi Heather, good luck with your doctor search. I'm 100% service disabled as well and mostly use the VA, especially for specialists, but I get the revolving door of doctors issue. I tore my meniscus recently and when I went to the doctor, I made sure that I wasn't wearing anything that would inhibit the doctor's ability to adequately examine the knee. In the interest of your health and for no other reason, I would suggest you not wear stockings when your feet are the body part to be examined. You wouldn't want the doctor to miss something. I've had close family with diabetic neuropathy and an overlooked sore can turn serious very quickly.

I totally agree with Robin! Though I have really enjoyed those DREs, getting an MRI on my prostate next week since my PSA is moving upwards. But since my father dies of prostate cancer I do not wear anything that could possibly inhibit the doctors examination or even prognosis. Just not worth it.

Well, since I'm not transition bound, on hormones, or in any-other-wise "out" to the world, doctor visits are about the only time I will wear "boy" undies - if there is a risk of me needing to "drop 'em." They don't need to know, since it's not what I'm there for.

Still - I have been in panties a couple times when I needed a butt shot (oops!), but it has never been an issue. Nothing was said, if they even noticed at all.

Like others have said - wear what you're comfortable with. I'd add "and aren't worried about others' finding out about."

To give you the answer to your medical question, if I was examining your feet for decreased sensation, (vibratory, proprioception, pain), I would request removal of the stockings.

Heather, I have been wearing panties everyday for 20+ years. I have worn very subdued panties to the doctors with no issues. I once went to the Emergency Room with very sexy panties on, no issues. Stockings, because they are hard to remove to test your feet, I would not wear them. Also, would forms not interfere with checking your heart?

I've been wearing only panties for 20 years and never had even a raised eyebrow.
Once I had just painted my toes and got called in for a consultation. I thought no big deal and then he said, take off your shoes and socks as part of the exam. I hesitated and then told him why and he said " I'm not checking your toes".
They are professionals and have probably seen everything. Go as you please.

Nothing has ever been said about panties, shaved bodies or nail polish, but I don’t wear anything that would get in the way of the exam. I don’t wear sweatshirts to get blood work nor would I wear lipstick to the dentist.

Except for that one time I wore ballet flats to the dentist and it started snowing and he made a comment about those shoes won’t keep me warm and dry.

I agree that wearing stockings is a bad idea if a foot exam is a possibility. If a bralette is in the way of checking a heartbeat, it is easily lifted even with silicone inserts (not forms) inside the pockets.

Karren, the best DRE I had was at the VA during my 6 month check-up after a radical prostatectomy. I was called in for a post operative exam to determine what percentage, if any, of disability would be assigned based upon residual issues. I was 62 at the time and the NP I saw was mid 30s. We spent about 10 minutes talking about things such as absorbent guards, stress incontinence, etc. I thought our meeting was over when she pointed at the gurney (exam bed) in the room and told me to drop my pants and underwear and bend over as I leaned against the gurney. In retrospect, I can only wish I had been wearing panties back in those days. Anyway, I was completely happy having her perform a DRE on me.

I, also a VET who gets most of my medical care at the V.A. I have gone fully dressed to see my Dr. with painted nails and toes. As I also am diabetic I have been checked for neuropathy while wearing pantyhose. They are thin enough that they don't interfere with the test. Even when I've been seen by a specialist, I've never had a bad experience being dressed.

rachael, thanks for that info. The 'Leggs thigh highs I wear are basically the same thickness as pantyhose. I don't have my PCP at the VA deal with my feet. I go to the VA podiatrist for that. However, as I'm changing VA facilities due to our recent move, I'm not sure if the first visit would have the PCP still wanting to check my feet. I never have any sores/cuts/etc. It's just checking my level of neuropathy which is close to 100% on the bottom of my feet.

I just wore Hanes Her Way nylon panties to my doc appointment, and he didn't say anything (I had to drop my pants for my physical).

I'd leave the stockings off when going for an exam which includes evaluation of neuropathy in your feet. There's absolutely no valid reason to cling to a psychological desire to wear stockings for that brief period of time. If you absolutely feel the necessity to wear them while going to the exam, take them off during the exam. You wouldn't wear spectacles with clear lenses and keep them on during an eye exam, would you? Of course not, that would be ridiculous. Take the stockings off.
There's a reason why we strip patients of all their clothing when they come in from a trauma accident to examine them; it's for an accurate evaluation of their body. If your doctor is examining your body for the first time while you're still clothed, I'd find a new doctor. In this case, you already know that your senses in your lower extremities are compromised, so it's important for your doctor to stay current on the progression of that disease process.

My experience with the VA. I am retired from the US Army after 21 years service. I am also 100% VA disabled. I used VA medical facilities for years but slowly switched to civilian medical care. Only use VA for eye and hearing care. I go to my VA and civilian medical care providers dressed. Never a problem. However I do believe if you know certain body area are going to be checked make it as easy and time saving for doctors to exam you as possible. Your there for medical care not a fashion show. I wear panties, unlined bralette, fem jeans, fem blouse and fem shoes all the time. The only thing that has ever been said to me was what pronouns would I like to be used and I always tell them male for now. As a side note for the most part the VA IS LGBTQ supportive. The larger facilities have support groups. The two physictrist I have seen in the past were Transgender friendly but after 30 minute session were pushing hormones and surgery on me. So I found a civilian gender counselor
that I went to for years. It did surprise me the large number of transgender people I've met at the VA, both MTF and FTM.

Two episodes for me:

First, at the (female) doctor's office. She told me I'd need to "drop em" for a shot in the buttocks, then left briefly to get the medication. I thought, "OMG, she's going to see my panties", then chuckled silently and decided to enjoy the moment. The doc had no visible reaction, just as I expected.

Another time, I was in the hospital, and had to undress completely under a hospital gown. I took off my panties for the nurses and my wife to see. The nurses didn't care, as they have all seen that much and a lot more, but my wife was pissed off, not because I was wearing, but because others had seen them.

Diane, I've often thought the perfect response should anyone question why I'm wear women's panties is: "My wife insists I wear them to keep me in my place." Of course, that's not why I wear them; but, I figure that answer is as appropriate as is the question.

My first time wearing panties to the doctor was not intentional. I put on panties to go to work, as I was starting to do more often. That day I forgot what I was wearing.
I had bronchitis and needed antibiotics and a steroid shot. When the nurse came with the injection was when I remembered I was wearing coral Hanes nylon hi cut briefs. The nurse said nothing. She either saw or she didn't.
But because she said nothing I knew it was okay to wear panties to the doctor. That was a big step to me wearing panties every day.
Now, I usually wear a bra to the doctor, too. My annual physical is coming up. I'm curious to see if she asks about bra straps.

I had to have an ultrasound on my lower leg, but when I got there the techie said he wanted to scan the whole leg so, rather than just rolling up my jeans I had to remove them. So he got a good look at the nice pink panties I was wearing. He said nothing, and it ended-up being a huge confidence boost. And the ultrasound was all clear.

The most embarrassing thing that ever happened to me was when I went to physical therapy. I had painted toes and I was told to take off my shoes and socks -- it gets worse -- ... The therapist gave me a bowl and a bunch of marbles and I had to pick up the marbles with my toes and drop them into the bowl -- it gets worse ... I was sitting in the middle of a large room where all the patients and physical therapists were, so it was not just my PT who saw my painted toes.

Nobody said anything. After that "trial by fire", nothing happening at the doctor's office scares me ... Except when I went into the hospital with chest pains. I had to strip down and put on a hospital gown to get a heart cath. I was more afraid of my DADT wife finding out about my painted nail than I was about the heart cath. I talked to my attending nurse and had her get me some "hospital" socks that I put on when my wife took a short break.

Similar story here. Last week I visited a dermatologist, who checked out a growth on my face. She insisted on checking my entire body!

She got a good look at my lacy black panties, and my painted toes. No reaction.

Instead, we joked about her name, which she shares with an eminent historical figure in the field of medicine.

No issues with the facial growth or any other skin markings. All is well!

Never had an issue. I wore a bra and almost forgot about a VA appointment with my pcp, went, figured she wasn't going to do an exam so why worry? She did the stethoscope thing and felt the bra, briefly paused like she was surprised, then went right back to work.

Another time at an appointment at the Memphis VA Hospital, aka Level Three of Hell, I had a radiology appointment. They did an ultrasound of my lungs. Again, did not expect that the tech would need to go below the waistline so I wore Just My Size (I'm a bigger girl) nylon panties. Well, oops, I had to drop my pants for part of the scan just enough for one angle. The tech was probably fifteen years older than me, saw what I had on, and remarked that she had the exact same ones and loved them.

I wore panties to doctor's office for the first time a few weeks ago. Partially because I had seen another doctor the week before and didn't think anyone would see anything, but it turned out both a PA and urologist (both female) got a look at my panties. No issues or responses.
