    Crossdressing drug?

    This was in the wiki for a drug called "pramipexole" -- anyone know about this?

    "Several unusual adverse effects of this medication may include compulsive gambling, hypersexuality, and overeating. Other compulsive behaviors, such as excessive shopping and even cross-dressing, have been reported.[4]These side effects may be linked to the D3 receptor agonist activity of pramipexole. D3 receptors are located in brain regions involved in mood, behavior, and rewards.[5]"

    As usual my instinctive reaction was don't trust wiki , but a quick google came up with this http://www.patient.co.uk/showdoc/30002074/

    it would seem to be used in the treatment of advance parkinson's , the line of interest being found at the bottom of known side effects

    "Important: Speak to your doctor if you notice any changes in your behaviour such as increased desire to gamble, over-eating or increased sex drive."

    make of it what you will , but i would say that some behavioural modification has been reported in rare cases

    I "googled" it. At one website here is what it said:

    Mirapex (generic name Pramipexole) is a medication indicated for treating Parkinson's disease and restless legs syndrome. It may be used alone, or in combination with levodopa or other medicines to treat this disease.

    Medical warning

    I can hear the ads now:
    "if you have a history of hypersexuality, risk-taking, and crossdressing, ask your doctor if this drug is right for you..."

    Leslie, I NEED that drug now!

    I COULD help me cure all my vices at one time!

    Sounds like there's nearly NO side affects, also!
    U can't keep doing the same things over and over and expect to enjoy life to the max. When u try new things, even if they r out of your comfort zone, u may experience new excitement and growth that u never expected.

    Challenge yourself and pursue your passions! When your life clock runs out, you'll have few or NO REGRETS!

    Serious Side Effects of Pramipexole
    Some side effects with pramipexole are potentially serious and should be reported immediately to your healthcare provider. Although most of these side effects are rare, a few may be common. Serious side effects of pramipexole include but are not limited to:

    * Hallucinations
    * Falling asleep during the day, sometimes without warning
    * Feelings of internal restless or jitteriness
    * Strong, uncontrollable muscle contractions
    * Any abnormal muscle movements
    * Severe dizziness or fainting
    * Muscle pain
    * Any vision changes
    * Difficult or painful breathing
    * Problems with impulse control, such as gambling, hypersexuality, or binge eating
    * Signs of an allergic reaction.

    Less Common Side Effects of Pramipexole

    Rare side effects of pramipexole occurred in 10 percent or less of people taking the drug. Because these side effects are so uncommon, it can be difficult to tell whether they are caused by pramipexole or something else.

    These less common side effects include but are not limited to:

    * Memory loss
    * Loss of appetite
    * Arthritis
    * Bursitis, a painful joint condition
    * Confusion
    * Constipation
    * Decreased libido (sex drive)
    * Weight loss
    * Dry mouth
    * Fever
    * Water weight gain (fluid retention)
    * Impotence (erectile dysfunction or ED)
    * The flu
    * Nasal congestion
    * Pneumonia
    * A runny or stuffy nose
    * Frequent urination
    * Loss of bladder control (urinary incontinence)
    * Urinary tract infections (UTIs), such as a bladder infection.

    it can be difficult to tell whether they are caused by pramipexole or something else.
    No sign of crossdressing in that list. I think that would have been included in the rare side effects.

    Maybe missing the fact the person was already a crossdresser before taking the tablets and thought this would be a good excuse to come of the closet.

    I think this backs up Julia's point nicely.

    If you did, this you would run the risk of arrest.
    So that is to say, you are gambling with your clean legal record.

    KIll THREE birds with one stone!

    OK CD'ing is something some of us do but how do they figure gambling and overeating would be a problem for most other folks?

    Kind of like with viagra they warn about having an erection that lasts more than 4 hours, what is the problem there?!?!

    So while we are risking things, what law would I have to break in order to be sentenced to the Hugh Hefner mansion for a few months?

    What the article said was "...compulsive behaviours, such as... cross-dressing..." so I think it was ill-informed and possibly written in a sensationalist style.
    Nowhere else in the real medical or psychological literature has it been suggested that a drug can induce cross-dressing.
