For informational purposes, I'd like to know the cost of medically supervised HRT without insurance. What's the range one can expect to pay per Dr visit, etc.
I know these vary from person to person, etc.. but what's a ballpark $ figure one can expect to pay.
I pay about $78 for a visit to the doctor. That doesn't include bloodwork. I've been seeing him every month because I just started, but I'm sure it will go down to every 3 or 6 months once I'm settled into my proper HRT dosages.
I pay about $100/month for spiro and depo-estrodiol at CostCo w/o insurance.
For me in Australia, its about 45 dollars (US) a month for spiro and E, and 50 dollars after subsidy for doctor visits.
Wow is that all? Gosh I thought it would of been more expensive. I just need to find a dr I'm happy with to make the next step.

The other half to this is the cost of the visits to a gender therapist. To get the letter for HRT. Mine runs $145.00 an hour. I'm not complaining, it's good to have a professional to talk out issues with and find out if this is the path you want to take.Originally Posted by LitaKelley

pays about $11 on PBS. My Androcur only costs me $8.53 for a month, if you are working that should be about $18 per month on PBS.
All consultations with Doctors & Psychologists at the Cairns Sexual Health Service are free, whether you are working or not. I believe it is the same at
the Gold coast Sexual Health Service in Miami where services are also free. Im not sure about the Brisbane Sexual Health Service but give them a call.
Contrary to popular opinion, thus stuff is cheap, cheap, cheap. Estrogen is produced by the millions (billions?) all over the world as a form of birth control. What is used in the States for testosterone blocking, spironolactone, is really a blood pressure medication is also VERY inexpensive. A start up program of both should cost you no more than $8 per month at WalMart. This will go up as you increase your dosage, but really, a hormone therapy program is NOT expensive. You should already know what your doctor visits cost. Initial blood work and monitoring blood work can be relatively expensive. $200 to $600, depending on where you get your work done. Community clinics cost FAR less than going to a teaching hospital, for instance.
Most people will need to go to therapy for some time, pre-hormone therapy. That's where you get a referral to start hormone therapy, usually. That can vary in cost also. Many therapists will use a sliding scale if they know you don't have insurance. An initial visit with an endocrinologist shouldn't cost much more than a regular doctor's visit. Then your regular doctor can take over your care.
We see posts all the time that say, "Oh, I would go on hormones if only I could afford it."
Well, you CAN afford it. If you let your doctor know that you don't have insurance and if you take advantage of community health clinics and such, you may be surprised at how affordable this all can be.
Of course, if you do have insurance, this can all be MUCH less expensive.

My insurance covers my therapist appointments so they only run 20 dollars an hour.

I understand that need, however, I already received estimates from therapists in my area, just that doctors on the other hand won't discuss rates over the phone
As already pointed out, hormones are generally pretty inexpensive. The associated medical care is what will get ya' !! My therapist is very reasonable at $120/hr., strait rate (there is a sliding scale). Doc visits depend on whether you use a specialist or not. I see a GP, who when needed, consults an Endocrinologist. I have minimal insurance, but it does cover those visits, so I do not know "how much", but I believe the doc charge is around $200 per visit. Blood work about $100 per visit. At first I saw him every 3 months. We are now doing ever 6-9 months.
Also keep in mind that other bits get pricey, one that seems to get less attention than it deserves is Electrolysis. If you do HRT, chances are really good you'll end up doing Electrolysis too - now that is expensive. Prices vary a lot, but figure around $5000 to $8000 to clear your face. . . (over about two years). That is close to enough for SRS !! It is not unusual for Electrolysis to cost more than the $8000.

Therapist is Can$ 155.00 per session and I usually go once a month and Estraderm Patch 100 is Can$88.00 for 12 weeks. Spironolactone and Finestride are low cost as well at $44.00 for 12 week supply. Electrolysis is $40.00 per one hour session. Initial cost for the first complete sweep is $2100.00 plus $2880.00 for the remainder of the first two years if you have light hair growth in the first place. So total cost first year in Canada is: Can$7,368.00, or $614.00 per month.
