Keep your toes pointed. Take smaller steps. Swing your butt a little.

Smaller steps, take your time, and practice some more. Try starting off almost with one foot in front of the other which gives you the hip swing, and don't stomp your heels

The most important part of walking in heels is flexibility. If you can't flex your foot be almost straight in line with your calf, you need to work on stretching. It's also good to stretch just before wearing heels. Once you get the flexibility, learning to walk in heels gracefully is not that hard.

With my bad ankles and poor sense of balance; the heals would have to be like snow shoes
for me to be able to walk in them. LOL

It's important to keep your knees straight, not bent. Maybe even flexed backward a little, but definitely not bent except when you are walking up & down stairs.

Practice, but also don't start off with too high of a heel. Start off with a 2 1/2 to 3 in heel to start with and then work your way up from there. A 3in heel is as high as I can comfortably go myself.

If your in 6" stilettos, carry a parachute, its a long way to roll the ankle too. Seriously though start off in a thick lower heel and progress up in height and narrowness in heel. Google too it is a great tool.

I used to find that wearing heels was like having a cement bag on each foot and now it feels like i am bambi on ice - I don't get to wear that often so I will never perfect the art but I do find i tend, without really trying, to walk more upright when in heels xx

I'm one of those girls who needs to start with flats then work my way to high heels. I worry about breaking my heel and falling flat on my tushy.

I started with the complete wrong shoes, but it may actually be a good thing. (5" pumps and 5" sandals) I liked the video listed above but the one that helped me the most was the "barbie toe" video:

The other thing is, practice. I walk around the neighborhood in jeans and heels about 4-5X a week, late at night. It builds coordination, skill and endurance, which is important. Initially, I could only go about 100' without resting. Now I can go a half mile or so.

Back in the day, models would practice poise and walking with a heavy book on their head. If the book fell off they would have to start over and keep practicing until they could balance it. I don't know if it's still done that way but you can try it and see how it works for you.

I can walk all day in 2 1/2 or 3 inch heels. Anything higher I save for photo ops.

Walking in heels is very different from a "guy" walking in loafers. The whole rhythm changes. Steps ARE shorter, and the whole leg is used in taking a step. The hips DO turn. Frankly, it's almost a dance.

Once you understand that the process of walking is different, and you get used to it with well-fitting shoes, you can walk in heels for hours!

There is no substitute for putting them on and practicing and then practicing some more, worked for me and still I practice, but to be fair I love to practice
