Musical Tastes and the Femme Side

    OK...

I know this may be me saying I am a retard (no offence to retards... if I am one I am now part of their community... and I shall embrace it!)... but... I am a muso.. ok serious guitar player... and I have always hated girly American Country music. OK I did cover some Shania Twain, and Emmylou, and that sort of thing but preferred Bonnie Raitt (blues girl)... great slide guitar playing!

But recently when dressed I have these songs going on in my head and I am thinking...WHAT! And they are what I would say are female songs... things I would have never have entertained before are now in my head!

Has this happened to others? I have a rehearsal with my hard rock band tomorrow... I need to stay grounded!

    Not for me.

I'm still deeply influenced by very dark industrial as well as progressive jazz and classical.

Velvet Acid Christ, Cabaret Voltaire, Nurse With Wound, Current 93, Throbbing Gristle, NON

Thanks Julia... Great help! I need to keep my focus! But I still have Bonnie Raitt in my head! I need to get hard and dark!

Well Kaz, I don't play an instrument, but if your thread is also aimed at whether we have different tastes because we are crossdressers, and do we listen to different music while dressed, or perhaps lean more towards a certain kind of music....then, no - my musical tastes have always been sort of 'female' oriented. By that I mean, I like a lot of stuff with female vocalists and I much prefer bands or singers that are female. I listen to the same types of music whether in drab or when dressed.

    Oh My God Kaz!!!

Go quickly to You tube and type in Nurse With Wound 1138 and listen to the song "Words For The Dying"

    This should remedy the situation.

Or NON with the song Total War.

    Let me know!

Come to Dallas sometime. We have a wonderful CD band 'CHIX'

I know this is a shameless plug, but I have nothing to do with them, just a fan.

ZZTop. Tom Petty. Bob Segar maybe the Eagles now and then.... but the country music thing just don't do a thing for me, unless I wanna pipe in the exhaust fumes on the truck and take a permanent nap.

Probably not a popular opinion, but one I share.

( From "Oh Brother Where Art Thou ?" ) ..

"Oh, Sisters, let's go down .. down to the river and pray" ...etc .. just beautiful!

It's a big subject, Kaz, and I won't go listing all my loves, hates and reasons why now .. I'd be up all night!

I'm a massive Rolling Stones fan .. but on New Years Eve I put on my "Prom" dress and grooved, grooved, grooved to Cindy Lauper ..

as to the country girls .. well ol' Dolly Parton is certainly floating my boat these days

Some of the female country artists I like include: Shania (who is Canadian), Cheyl Wright, Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift. I also like Lady Gaga and Beyonce.

Don't give in to the dark side, Kaz!

I'm pleased to say Rachel's taste in music is the same as her male alter ego's!

Have you got a link to you band?
    hugs for everyone!

Thanks Julia... I may be getting back on track! Although a bit at the other end of the spectrum-ish!

This band are mainstream biker-rock so it is AC/DC, Lizzy etc... but they seem to want to do it harder... The drummer is really into Pantera! The bass player is AC/DC... I just do guitar and sing!

    Ooh!
    Men.
Have you ever tried to figure them out?
Huh, me too, but I ain't got no clue
    How 'bout you?

    Men are like shoes
    Made to confuse
Yeah, there's so many of 'em
I don't know which ones to choose
    (yeah, yeah, yeah)
    Ah, sing it to me
    If you agree

There's the kind made for runnin'
The sneakers and the low down heels
The kind that will keep you on your toes
And every girl knows how that feels
    (yeah, yeah, yeah)
Ouch, ah, sing it with me

    [Chorus:]
You've got your kickers and your ropers
Your everyday loafers, some that you can never find
You've got your slippers and your zippers
    Your grabbers and your grippers
Man, don't ya hate that kind?
Some you wear in, some you wear out
    Some you wanna leave behind
    Sometimes you hate 'em
    And sometimes you love 'em
I guess it all depends on which way you rub 'em
But a girl can never have too many of 'em

It's amazing what a little polish will do...
    Men are like shoes...

Some make you feel ten feet tall
Some make you feel so small
Some you want to leave out in the hall
Or make you feel like kicking the wall
    (yeah, yeah, yeah)

Ah, sing it with me, girls
    Ooh! (yeah, yeah, yeah)
    Mmm..

    [Repeat Chorus]

Some can polish up pretty good...
    Ah, men are like shoes..

It's amazing what a little polish will do
Some clean up good, just like.new
Some you can't afford, some are real cheap
Some are good for bummin' around on the beach

You've got your kickers and your ropers
Your everyday loafers, yeah some that you can never find
You've got your slippers and your zippers
    Your grabbers and your grippers
And man, don't ya hate that kind?

    [Repeat Chorus]

I ain't got time for the flip-flop kind...
    Men are like shoes!
    Great lyrics....!

As the girl said (Bonnie R)... Let's give them something to talk about!

Yes. I decided that I should femme up my musical tastes so have opened up a little. I have found that I really like Britney's Femme Fatale album. I am also listening to Girl's Generation (Korean) more often and have opened up to some poppy/dancy I dunno what you wanna call it stuff like Rihanna. But also... since I cancelled my gym membership since I am obviously no longer trying to bulk up, I have been dancing in my room almost every morning after work as my cardio work out. I want to lose another two inches and get my thighs down a little. I used to be really into weightlifting and was squatting 175 when I weighed 165 so now I regret the muscular thighs I have built up lol. Anyway getting a little off-track. So ya that is another reason why I have been looking for more dancable music. And it just makes me feel a lot more femme and I am sure puts off a femme aura to my co-workers when I am listening to the girly stuff at work hehe. I am just waiting for when somebody at my work starts to question me... especially with my manicured nails (just clear polish) and suddenly getting both of my ears pierced and my thin eyebrows and everything lol.

Oh ya and you girls should check out this song, Androgyny, by Garbage http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVs6Fekh0RY&ob=av2e. I really like it because I think I look pretty androgynous right now with my short hair (it's growing!) but ya sometimes it's really nice because I feel like I am free of gender and it feels like my mind is just much clearer.

This may be a bit far on the hard rock side but try Jack off Jill, Scarling, and Kittie. Jack off Jill is kind of Like an all female version of Marilyn Manson. Kittie is closer to a Pantera.

Orianthi rocks! Now she probably should be my femme role model! The Jeff Healey version of Roadhouse is the best! Will be playing that in my new band!

I have 12 year old daughter whom is an accomplished singer and I enjoy such bands as The Band Perry, Taylor Swift and Katie Perry with her. Personally though, Jerry Garcia moves my soul.
