What's your favorite gender bending themed music or band/s?

Mine has got to be the classic 'Transformer' by Lou Reed.
    Released November 8, 1972
Recorded August 1972 at Trident Studios, London
    Genre Glam rock/Art rock
    Length 36:40
    Label RCA Records
    Producer David Bowie, Mick Ronson

Not only is it a brilliant album in general, but the gender bending themes make it my personal choice.

Of course there is the universaly recognized 'Walk on the wild side', followed by the less well known 'Make Up', which was an important track for me as a youngster, the fact that a famous artist was openly praising us girls shamelessly gave me much solice.

"You're a slick little girl, yeah you're a slick little girl..." "We're coming out, out of our closets...".

So what albums/bands/songs with a transgendered theme have a place in your playlists?

    xoxo

    I am what I am.

    Sing along with me girls……………………..

    I am what I am
I am my own special creation
    So come take a look
    Give me the hook
    Or the ovation
It's my world that I want to have a little pride in
My world and it's not a place I have to hide in
    Life's not worth a damn
    Till you can say
    I am what I am

    I am what I am
    I don't want praise, I don't want pity
    I bang my own drum
    Some thinks it's noise
    I think it's pretty
And so what if I love each sparkle and each bangle
Why not try to see things from a different angle
Your life is a sham till you can shout out
    I am what I am

    I am what I am
    And what I am
    Needs no excuses
    I deal my own deck
    Sometimes the ace
    Sometimes the deuces
It's one life and there's no return and no deposit
One life so its time to open up your closet
Life's not worth a damn 'til you can shout out
    I am what I am

Well you said music or band, so the band would have to be Chix. A Dallas based trans band.

Its a great song - fun lyrics, great hook and rocks! But, ever since Weird Al's version came out, all I can think of is Yoda, Ya ya ya ya Yoda, Ya ya ya ya Yoda....

The New York Dolls because they were so big for the punk scene. Have to admit that while I love the Kinks, Lola is my least fav of theirs

The meaning of life is to win the human race, or maybe, it's just finding the perfect shoes.

    For me its:

Winter Wonderland ---Walkin' 'Round in Women's Underwear

Lacy things, the wife is missin'
    Didn't ask, her permission
    I'm wearin' her clothes
    Her silk pantyhose
    Walkin' 'round in women's underwear

In the store, there's a teddy
    Little straps, like spaghetti
    It holds me so tight
    Like handcuffs at night
    Walkin' 'round in women's underwear

In the office there's a guy named Melvin,
He pretends that I am Murphy Brown
He'll say, "Are you ready?" I'll say, "Whoa Man!"
"Let's wait until our wives are out of town!"

    Later on, if you wanna
    We can dress, like Madonna
    Put on some eyeshade
    And join the parade
    Walkin' 'round in women's underwear

    Lacy things- missin'
    Didn't ask- permission
    Wearin' her clothes
    Silk pantyhose
    Walkin' 'round in women's underwear
    Walkin' 'round in women's underwear
    Walkin' 'round in women's underwear

Wow! I want to be in that band, and I'm not a huge metal fan.

Thanks girls, there's some great tunes and bands in that lot, I wasn't even aware the NY Dolls were of our ilk. I tend to agree with you Talldrinkofwater, even though Lola is a classic, I've heard it too many times, but I love the kinks, Mr Davies is a legend.

Barbie, didn't you post that the other day on another thread? I'll let you off with a warning this time young lady! ;p

Sasha, I know the song, I never realised that's what they were about, I guess I was always too smitten with Shirley to notice?

Dead or Alive of course! Good music and really hot drag queen. Some 80s music I really like. In fact any glam rock is gender bending enough. Or at least redefines the idea of what gender is (for the time period anyway).

I'm in the process atm of developing my next musical project, I haven't quite sketched the outline of the idea yet, but it's most certainly going to be Pheobe's first outing into the world of music. I'm kinda thinkin' somthing along the lines of early Bowie/Ziggy glam rock, with a touch of house beat for the rhythm? But knowing my track record, it'll end up being the exact opposite.

I already have about 8000 fans on facebook, mostly from Thailand and Indonesia, so something with a trans theme may just be a hit in those asian countries where the trans scene is more accepted?

Lou Reed - Take a walk on the wild side. It's mostly the bass line that I like, but the lyrics are quite wild.

I recently found this song by Suzanne Vega called As Girls Go:

You make a really good girl
    As girls go
Still kind of look like a guy
I never thought to wonder why

If I could pull this off
    Would I know for certain
    The real situation
    Behind the curtain

    So beautiful
    damsel in distress
    Not exactly natural
    Stunning none the less

    What happened to you?
To make you more girl than girls are
Would you ever show or tell
Cause you're so good so far

You make a really good girl
    As girls go
    As girls go
    As girls go
    As girls go
    As girls go

    Let's chronicle
The dark side of the life
Did you ever keep the date
With the steel side of the knife

    Doesn't matter to me
    Which side of the line
    You happen to be
    At any given time

You make a really good girl
    As girls go
    As girls go
    As girls go
    As girls go
    As girls go

Well you should see Polythene Pam
She's so good-looking but she looks like a man
Well you should see her in drag dressed in her polythene bag
Yes you should see Polythene Pam
    Yeah yeah yeah

Get a dose of her in jackboots and kilt
She's killer-diller when she's dressed to the hilt
She's the kind of a girl that makes the news of the world
Yes you could say she was attractively built
    Yeah yeah yeah

I don't have any favorites, but a couple that some may not know of are:

The Montreal-based transgender indie/electro experimentalist just released their sixth album, I Can’t Keep All Of Our Secrets — an emotional electro pop exploration of grief and loss inspired by the death of a friend. Musically, it’s the former Calgary country crooner’s most electronic offering to date, a dance-floor friendly collage of heavily programmed production, analog synths and distorted electric guitars.

In addition to promoting what is arguably their best album yet, Spoon will also be publishing their first book, First Spring Grassfire — a semi-fictional, semi-autobiographical account of growing up trans in Alberta — in the fall, and the National Film Board has a documentary about the fascinating artist in the works.
    More at: http://www.uptownmag.com/music/featu...140032373.html

Rae Spoon - Ocean Blue (trans artist, no trans content)

Cyndi Lauper - Ballad Of Cleo & Joe (At five o'clock he comes home to change
Takes him many hours just to rearrange . . .
There's a woman in the mirror lookin' like a dream
And he works his body and he feels somebody And the working boy becomes a dancing queen
    )

    and

The Magnetic Fields - Andrew in Drag (The only girl I'll ever love is Andrew in drag)
