I am planning say in a hotel with a spa and pool soon,and intend to swim in the pool, in my wig, and sue the hot tub. I just put the wig over my fairly short hair - no stocking cap or anything. I always try to keep my head out of the water as I am not a strong swimmer, but realise that this is not always possible. Is my wig likely to float off, and if so, how can this be avoided?
Get wig clips...that should do it.
I once had an underwater photo job to shoot a model as she entered the water after diving off the bow of a boat. She was wearing a long, flowing blond wig and the use of wig clips kept it on her.

Never did it myself but will find out in a month or so. I'm going to go swimming en femme in the pool at the local LGBT resort.

Wigs don't come with a chin strap! The clips will work just as well. :-)
I've done a little reading on the matter earlier in the month and found that while the wig won't necessarily fall off as long as you don't dive in or whip it around, I read the main problem will be the chlorine, while not bleaching the wig it will tangle it to no end if you leave it in, I suppose that means just when your done get that baby under some clean water and get all that bad pool water out
I've gone swimming in my pool with a wig on a number of times, Susan. If your wig fits fairly tite like mine, getting it wet shouldn't make the elastic loosen. Mine has never come loose. However, I haven't tried swimming very fast, swimming under water, or diving in it, tho. As Joslyn suggests, wash it or at least rinse it out with fresh water after u finish.
U can't keep doing the same things over and over and expect to enjoy life to the max. When u try new things, even if they r out of your comfort zone, u may experience new excitement and growth that u never expected.

Hmmm... maybe do what some women do, wear a swimming cap. That way you can save your wig for the buffet.

My SO swims around with his wig on, but doesn't get his hair wet. I've never heard of "wig clips". That's something I'll have to tell her about. Thanks.

Well i have it made then no wig & no hair,, & to wear one in a pool or other = sea, no thanks apart from as said chem's & salt or what ever else can damage the wigs. apart from all those knots,
& no bad hair days, = love it,,,,,

I agree. Chlorine or bromine is not too friendly wih synthetic wigs!
That's what I do. My wigs would surely not like being in the pool, especially if I'm doing laps and diving! Only (so far) in our own pool, but there's another goal!

Wig tape will keep it in place. Just remember how it will look when it does get wet and how that will change your appearance. Also, if your hair is wet, so is your face and that could do damage to your makeup.

If you jump into a pool feet first and your head goes under the water from that jump, your wig will certainly be in some place other than your head when you surface. One time while playing some water volleyball with others in the pool at the Southern Comfort Conference, I jumped up to hit the ball. When I came down, I slipped and my head went under water. My wig floated a few feet away before I grabbed it and got it back on. Just swimming forward or even underwater was not a problem for keeping the wig on, but it did get to be something of a wet mess. If you swim in a synthetic wig, it needs to be one that you will only use for swimming in. The stink of chlorine will get in it and it will not come out for many months, even with several washings. And, as others have pointed out, even "waterproof" makeup is not completely waterproof and a good bit of it will disappear in the pool.

I heard that this works well for lace front wigs for swimming but I have not tried it.
I have heard from wig specialists that you can swim in fresh water without any problems, just let the wig get dry normally after that. On the other hand both the pool and sea water could damage synthetic wigs.
This is an amazing thread, but one I still have a little difficulty visualising. First we have Susan- allI can say is the wig must be pretty big to have room to swim across it
