I have been thinking about this since I posted yesterday in a thread about men.
The last hold out in my comming out was for my childhood friend Mike. We grew up together played in bands together. And have been through thick and thin together. Brothers from another mother.
You should know that Mike iis the quintisential Tourin heavy metal musician. Long hair tattoos the whole nine. He lived the hard core sex drugs and mayhem life style. And still does no more drugs and girls though. He loves sports his wife playing music and riding motorcycles.
I came out to him about a year ago He had asked why I shave my legs and I just opened up and told him the truth. He didnt bat an eye he was upset that it took me so long to trust him but he understood why it did and forgave me right then. Then he helped me come out to his wife who gave me a big hug and was very supportive. We talked alot over the next few days all of it. My fears wants and deepest desires. They met me as Daphne a few times and were quiq to point out how I seemed so comfortable and happy. And they said I was much more fun as a girl than a guy.
For my birthday last summer they sent me a biker jacket a ladies HD tshirt and a pair of boots. The card said be ready for the ride of your life. Mike made plans to pick me up on a Saturday morning. I got dressed in the bike gear and he showed up on his bike. When I went out to greet him he said "there she is" gave me a big hug and said get on the back sweetheart. A playful slap on my but and we were off!. He took me for a long ride down the shore we stopped in a bar had lunch all the time holding my hand or escorting me and being unashamedly seen doting over me as if I was his girlfriend. AND I LOVED EVERY MINUTE ! We ended up back at his house later in the day to a small birthday party of mostly friends of thiers that I.had gotten to know over the years. Who he had all told about me and asked for them to support who I was trying to be.
I was overwhlmed beyond overwhelmed. They were the last people I told and should have been the first. When I asked why he went through such trouble he said it had occured to him that I might have never had a date and a birthday party as a girl.

It also goes to prove yet again that you can't judge a book by its cover - especially when it comes to the way people dress and present themselves in terms of their public "persona". But then again, as CDer's we already knew that, right?
