Was at an LGBT meeting Sunday

After the church service yesterday, we had a 60 minute Adult Nurture class with reps from local LGBT (add or rearrange letters). T presentation was given by one of our elders who is full time. I didn't get the T-shirt, but did get ribbon, pin, and plenty of papers and brochures.

After the meeting, I had lengthy talk with my elder. Doors are opening without me looking for them. This would not have even been in my mind several months ago. I don't have to give up my faith to be TG. It's so nice not to be condemned and discriminated against. WOW.

There's a lot of folks who will try to convince us that it's Either/Or, but that's not how it works.

I think that that depends upon the particular institution. Some have zero tolerance, others are welcoming.

That's awesome. But it's also kinda sad that we have to set our expectations so low that we're overjoyed for not being condemned.

I believe the founder of the organization, a long haired, socialist, who preached acceptance and love would be welcoming. But them what do I know, evidently others misread what he said.

I agree, he had a lot more love and compassion than some of these groups and their followers. The world has changed since these books were written yet old values seem to stay the same based on the interpretation of these books.

It is just amazing what you find out when you least expect. I feel that this is the time you were meant to find out about your elder, and use it to better your life. i wish you the best with this new found avenue.

Absolutely. There are three church denominations that I know of, and probably more than that. My church background has been with zero tolerance, so this was a very pleasant surprise. I'm not a member though, as that was the second service for me. Prior to that, I've not been in church for over a year, and I was moving towards agnostic. The inclusiveness from LGBT-Q / GBLT is such a breath of fresh air. I'm going back, and at some point may even attend as Teresa. Maybe. At least on LGBT days. ;-)

I've also read that TG (user defined) acceptance is growing more common amongst other churches, but don't have confirmation.

I'll PM the denomination to whoever is interested, just so that this will not generate into a religious thread.

Lainie, I just met this particular elder Sunday, and she is not the loner TG in this congregation. There are more. Yay! All I know is that she transitioned on the job, and is a full time woman. :-)

I don't think that the sixty minute LGBT presentation occurs every Sunday. Last Sunday, The Adult Nirture meeting was about artifacts and information about Haiti.

Only the faithless promote intolerance, sounds like you found a place where the faithful have found each other.

I'm inspired that every sunday our minister comes out in public wearing a full length gown. Oh wait, I guess it's robes and vestments, my bad :-)
