    NOT so wild about heels

My apologies to Wildaboutheels, Freddy’s like-minded yet misunderstood unofficial friend...

No, I’m not wild about heels, in fact I neither own any, nor have I ever owned any. They simply don’t interest me, and they do not represent first contact, or the curious portal I entered on the way to the wonderful world of crossdressing. I wear flats. Always have. Always will...

Lately I’m wondering WHY I’m not nuts about heels. I mean, what happened?

Well, they seem rather impractical to me, for one thing. Also, I get dizzy VERY easily. Under what circumstances would I wish to be teetering a few inches higher, subject to motion sickness, unstable, and restricted in my movements? I’m tall enough, thanks, tall for a woman my age...

The outfits I wear, which make me look something like a conservative schoolmarm, do not require me to show much leg, OK? There’s no need to make the back of my legs (or higher) look a certain way, to attract people I do not wish to attract. Also, I don’t want to attract any attention as I crossdress within the “zone” I have created, so heels, with their click-clack chatter echoing off of any nearby structure, would certainly defeat the purpose. I AM a very quiet girl, believe me...

I once saw a woman lose one of her heels when she walked over a metal grate in Boston – it just ripped the heel right off the shoe, and the poor woman was left hobbling around, helpless. Heels often look like spiked weapons to me – I can’t seem to forget that scene early in the film Robocop 2, when the two prostitutes cruelly blind a man with their heels. Also, the insistence that women wear heels in porno films, hard or soft, even when they’re wearing nothing else, has (I think) had a real negative effect on me. I understand you may want to make the feet, as well as the legs, look as good as possible on-screen (in the eyes of whoever is making the film), but wearing heels in bed is a little ridiculous, isn’t it?

On the other hand, flats (to me) always look elegant, adorable, and comfortable. When I began to crossdress I knew what I wanted to wear, and, although I’m not a shoe fetishist by any stretch of the imagination, I do enjoy NOT wearing heels. I kick up my heels often, feeling merry as I can be, but my heels are LOW and barely noticeable, part of my chosen anti-sexy presentation...

I know many MtF crossdressers LOVE heels. To each his (or her) own. Are you wild about heels?

Frederique, you are one silly girl indeed. You're not the first CD I've met who doesn't wear heels. I don't understand the other one either! I congratulate you on your ability to make a well written stand against heels for yourself. I'd purge everything and take up model airplanes if I couldn't wear heels. I'm just hoping to get 10 more years on heels before I'm forced to give them up. I'm getting a little old for this you know.

In regards to heels, I see myself as a contradiction. Love em and hate them. Love the way they look, hate the way they feel. Love how I can't help but walk in a certain way while wearing them, but hate how painful over time (which can be minutes) that can be. I've searched high and low for comfortable shoes - spent more money on a pair under the advice that the better they are made, the more comfortable they will feel, but the more they will cost. Doing all the "tricks" - starting off low, to get used to them, to then thinking - bugger it - start off high and work my way down. Trying stilletto, to block heels, to wedges. Have to say, for obvious reasons, the wedges are usually the best (of a bad bunch), but even then I've had my ankles buckle, twist and turn, unexpectedly (and usually when there's a lot of people about to laugh at me).

I've watched women in sky-high heels walk without problem. Not believing that such women are not in pain. Maybe they are, maybe not. Adjustment - getting used to them - knowing how to mask the pain, maybe that's the trick. God knows I've tried. Practiced. And while I still wear them, never has there felt as much relief as when I get home and can kick them off my feet.

I'm thinking of starting a petition. A petition that results in the concrete pavements/sidewalks being replaced by soft, cushioned walkways. With absolutely NO grills in sight. Obviously it'll never happen (the petition that is - I'm just being silly (even in mentioning it)), but still, I go out shopping and can't resist buying a new pair. I guess I'm just silly really!

I don't wear heels except for special occasions, such as the Christmas show at the club. Normally when I go to the club to dance. I wear boots or if I'm wearing pumps, the heels are no more than 1 1/2 inches. The reason is if I'm going to be dancing 3-4 hours, I don't want my backside going up into my back. The toes in my stockings take a pounding as it is.

I love heels--the way they feel, the way I walk in them, the way they make my legs look. In fact, I just got a new pair this week. Some outfits to me just don't look right with flats--think lbd. Walking in them is not a problem--lots of practice.
On the other hand, I also love ballet flats--cute, adorable with skirts, shorts, capris, etc., and comfortable. Yes, I love heels, but I'd guess 75 percent of the time I'm dressed, I'm in flats.

I've always liked what is, or was, called the "southwestern look", a moderately long colorful loose skirt and low heeled soft leather boots. Perhaps some Navajo jewelry around the waist and a 'peasant' blouse to complete what to me looks like a wonderfully feminine presentation.

I'm not in the all about heels camp either but I do wear them if the outfit calls for them.

I do agree. Most of my skirts are long and loose, my heels vary but are never more than three inches and I wear Navajo pawn (if I can afford it). I live for half the year in the Four Corners of the US and love that 'SW easy' look. I'll go drap for the Cowboy Gather here next month but my dear wife will dress SW Colorado and look great. Frederique - I was so sad to read your admission about heels and flats. I don't think that flats disease, known as flatcousis, is contagious or fatal. But I believe it to be treatable. Maybe you could see a shoe therapist. Just don't give up. There are worse conditions a crossdresser could have - like the dreaded pantsitis, which is the preference to wear pants. Or braphobia.

More evidence that there isn't just one way to CD. Some people need to be reminded.

Geez, Freddy, don't you know that on page 3 of the Crossdresser's Rule Book it says "Crossdressers must LOVE heels, the higher the better!"

Frederique - Like everything else, your parents are most likely to blame if you are not nuts about high heels. Parents are always acceptable to blame. Also, maybe it could be your education. Your teachers might have provided an anti-heel bias within your learning which you are not aware of. Maybe religion. Maybe it could be a vitamin deficiency. Just don't worry - there are many of us who will help and support you.

Are you wild about heels? :
    Exactly

    Yes I am!!

I am so very thankful I do not have a "dress code for Crossdressers" that I have to live by!! Even though I am, as some would say, too tall to wear heels. Heels slow my gait which is not a bad thing for me. I do not need, or want, to run while dressed and I have found most of my heels to be very comfortable.

OK, I confess... for me, crossdressing without heels would be sort of a letdown... pun intended!

At six feet, I'm already kinda tall. I've noticed most guys are shorter, and even more women. Even so, I absolutely won't wear anything anything less than 2 1/2" heels. I believe they help my posture, keeping my steps shorter, my shoulders back, and my head up.

I just recently bought my first pair of cowboy boots. As a guy, just to look more stylish. My GF liked 'em, as did the saleswoman, who commented, " For a guy in his first pair of boots, you can sure walk in heels!"

I had to refrain from telling her that this wasn't my first rodeo, and that my usual heels had a lot thinner heel than the cowboy boots!

I find that heels go well with some outfits and flats with other more casual clothes. You just look a little more dressed up with heels. I just wear what goes with the outfit and situation. To me they are just shoes.
All I ever wanted was to be a girl. Is that really asking too much?

I only have a couple pairs of shoes at this point. One pair of pumps and one pair of strappy things with a much thinner although shorter heel. It is much easier to walk appropriately in that narrower heel.

At 5'14" I thought that heels were my enemy. I stuck to flats for everything but CD group events.

One time I was feeling a bit frisky, so I wore some wedges on a mainstream outing. I was surprised that I didn't seem to attract any more attention than usual and perhaps even a bit less. Since then I've worn modest wedges on several mainstream outings that didn't involve a lot of walking. Perhaps people see my height, look at my feet, and then decide that the heel are the cause without doing the math!

I love heels as much as anyone else in these pages but at the same time, I can be practical. I adore being able to glide about in a nimble manner in flat sandals or ballet flats with that extra bit of "blendability" that comes with being no taller than my 5'9".

    Wildaboutsomeheels seemed downright silly.

I mean... any "decent" CDer realizes that not all heels are created equal.

    Don't they?

I don't do dresses or flats if it's any consolation to you Freddy...

Hi Freddy, They can have my heels when they pry them off my cold dead feet.
Although my two favorite pairs of shoes are my 4"black sling backs & my black Ballet flats.
