    Find myself crying...

I don't understand why I cry so much. Whether it's joy, watching a movie, sadness, sex, I just cry. I've only been on HRT for about a month. Is it that?

Although Hormone Therapy can affect your emotions, it does not normally kick in that quickly. Have you discussed this with your Gender specialist or with your doctor?

Not yet, Rianna. My next app. is Wednesday. And I will. I just don't understand why I start tearing up during the silliest movies or situations.

If you are transsexual, sometimes the relief of having started to transition can be enough to free some of your emotions.

During my last year or so of therapy, she told me that I would go through emotions and such... I just didn't realize that I would cry so often. I suppose I'm asking if ya'll went through the same thing. I mean, just typing this I'm tearing up. Is that normal for us?

I found that shedding the indoctrination "boys don't cry". I have allowed my emotion the freedom and I get emotional more offer. There was a period about 4-6 months after hrt crying was spontaneous. I agree with Rianna that the relief of taking that step forward releases suppressed emotions and the floodgates open

I cried a lot after about 4 or 5 months on the juice. I hadn't cried for year prior to that. I didn't cry at just anything though mostly I cried because I was depressed, I hated myself and wanted to die! I started taking antidepressants and that helped immensely.

I'm hopeful this is normal for you, that it is a relief for you to be on HRT and all that. I'd still be interested in what your therapist says about it, because it could be a bad sign. But I wouldn't rush to judgment on it either way, just keep on keepin' on and talk to your doctor.

Crying while on HRT is quite normal. As we are all different in our makeups, we will be effected at different times during our transition process. If you are still concerned with the effects of HRT, consult your doctor for further and more information on how HRT works and what can be expected.

I have always cried, but my tearing up has increased dramatically since I began taking hormones 7 months ago. I was sitting at home and waiting for my girlfriend to arrive for dinner last Wednesday evening and to pass the time I turned the TV set on. While flipping through the channels, I came across the old movie Free Willie 2. I sat and watched the last 15 or 20 minutes of the film and absolutely cried my eyes out.

It got so bad, I had to call my girlfriend and asked her to take her time as I had to totally redo my makeup.... Oh yes, hormones have definitely had an effect on my emotions and my crying.

Yes, same here too. I rarely cried before starting HRT and now, well suffice to say the right triggers will have me crying worthy of a gold medal. As for when it kicked in, I'm not too sure. I don't recall it being any longer than 6 weeks on HRT before I noticed I was on an emotional roller coaster. That settled down by around months 4-5 but the ability to shed tears with little self control remains.

I'm still waiting to get on hormones and I cry at silly stuff now. Watched part of a movie on tv earlier, and started crying at the breakup. I felt silly for it, so I started doing housework. Then started crying as I dusted a couple knick-knacks that were my wife's. I'll probably be a wreck when I start.

    Hugs,

After 3 1/2 months hrt, I only cry with the appropriate triggers. So far, they are- sad movies, puppies, babies, greeting cards, songs by Joni Mitchell, hugs, calls from old friends, some giving me flowers or chocolate... Come to think of it, everything makes me cry now.

We all react differently, so timing cannot be pinned down. Also the mental anxiety state when beginning HRT, and the relief can lower the inhibitions and, for me at least, greatly increased by crying time. I cannot put on my favorite recordings when i am alone, or I am going to lose it. Don't know why, it is just me now, so i go with the flow, and have a lot of tissues.

One of my friends started crying all the time after a month or so on HRT, so yeah, it can happen.

I think you've gotten the answer you were looking for, but wanted to add my two cents and story. Before HRT living my life as a boy/man; of course I heard the 'ol "big boys don't cry" and hated it. I did cry and was more sensative than the average guy. However; now since living my life as a woman and on HRT for 15 months, yeah, I cry all the time! IMO it's like many have said a combination of finally being free to cry (and free to do other things) that allows repressed and surpressed emotions come flooding out, and the fact that crying is just part of being a woman. It actually can feel real good, especially afterwards when the tears are gone and we have had that emotional release. Crying releases energy and that always feels good.

You might want to analyze though what's behind the tears. Yes a song, movie, etc.... may trigger it; but there's always something else going on at a deeper level. As a therapist, I often find myself analyzing my thoughts and emotions. I've gained a lot from this process. Yes, always check things out with your therapist and doctor; but I'm thinking this is just about the relief of finally being able to live your life as the woman you are and coming to accept that fact.

    Paulette
