    Costuming and Character Creation

Does anyone here like to costume!

I have been into costuming for quite a while.

This is where I first crossdressed in my late 50's and I liked the experience.

Usually if I go in female attire I like to dress in historical costumes with hoopskirts, the bigger the better, with all the trimmings!

I have two dresses that I can use with a hooped petticoat and can create several characters with them

Does anyone else like to participate in costume activities?

See my picture below as The Lady in Red.

I have not done that except for costume parties and I love it. "It" being dressing up in a costume no matter the subject or gender presentation. Of course, since I started crossdressing, I always prefer the female styles. I would love to do that more at parties and special evenings out and about.

I think this would be fun. I also think I could get into it if I had an occassion to try it. But I also see it would involve some work and expense to get set up properly. But it's certainly food for thought.

Basically at Halloween, Mardi Gras and special events.

I particularly like to wear large hoopskirts with all of the extras and trimmings. Love it!

I love historical costuming and founded a social group here in Winnipeg in which we do atleast one event per month. www.wpgtimetravellers.webs.com Our last outing was on Saturday to the play "A Christmas Story" in which I will eventually post in the Special Events and Occasions category

Seems cool Hon and some here are into that stuff. To myself, however, it seems like it takes a lot of time. When I'm en femme, I want to optimize my time as my time is somewhat limited. I would need more free time to do what you do.

Just looking through here I do like Rachel's dress, it is gorgeous.
I got to wear one of my mothers string strap dresses years ago so as she could take it in.
One of the best half hours of my life.

The expense of costuming makes me pause a bit - i have been tempted to do Victorian or renaissance but have not quite settled on a character to play yet

    YES!

In fact, I'm in the middle of (slowly) making my own Victorian ballgown. So far I've completed the 180" hoop (like you, I like them big), and I've gotten a custom corset made for me. That was pricey but soooo worth it.

Currently working on the undies, and then I'll start on the gown itself.

I'm basing on this gown, but I'd love to do two of the gowns from Gone with the Wind too.

I also love bustle era, and baroque era, but again, the more structure, the more I like them.

Hi Martha, the pic of me in my pink gown was taken on Halloween! Thanks for your visitor message. I got my gown from Ebay. Just go to Ebay, enter in the search string "Civil War Southern Belle Dress" in the search box and hit enter and lots of great gowns for sale come up. I spend $120 on mine.

    Hugs, Rachel

I think it would be fun to do. I like the look of Renaissance and Steam Punk. Along with the southern belle dresses. I would also like try crossplay since i identify most with the female characters. Maybe one day for Halloween.

Hi Rachel, you look lovely in that! What sort of petticoats, corsets, and underpinnings do you wear under that beautiful pink gown? Get them from the same place? I have never worn anything so intricate as that, but always willing to learn.
