    From an older one

I am going to be 71 on my next birthday in less than 60 days.

True my face does not look like it did when I was 20.

I donned my first dress at age 59 for a costume party.

I was wearing a full hoop skirt, wig, bonnet, string purse, lace fan, full makeup , a pair of satin laced pantallettes and a lace parasol.

This is all new to me.

But dressed as a man I have an almost complete bald head with a slight bit of gray fringe around the edge. Truly I look my age if not older!

But when dressed as a woman, I look 20 years younger.

I also have no wrinkles and tend to have a youthful looking face.

Being in good health and youthful outlook, I almost feel that I have found the fountain of youth.

See my avatar. It was taken at age 69.

Beautiful, Martha. Do you think we "peel off" some years because we try harder when we're en femme?

    That's quite possible!

Also having a youthful attitude helps.

And even though I have to wear support hose, I still am going to wear my knee length and slightly above the knee length skirts!

And continue with my good sense of humor as well!

For some reason your avi isn't visible at this moment, but I'll take your word for it. I do see a stark change when I get made up and don the wig...I often wonder if others see it.

Hey Martha, that's a great, positive attitude - I think your avatar looks an easy ten to fifteen down, but it is small.
And yes, I think we do look younger, but I fear that may well be the result of what is plastered on, rather than peeled off speaking personally, of course...
Like I said somewhere else and I intend to keep repeating: "you're as young as the woman you feel..."

I basically use foundation crème, a little eye shadow, eyebrow liner and lipstick.

But still I look much younger as a woman than a man, since I am bald with just a little gray fuzz around the edge.

Fortunately I do not have any wrinkles and a young looking face. That goes along way for us "seniors"!

But the positive attitude and good sense of humor helps.

Is it not wonderful to be in 70's and look in 50's.

The best part is I don't feel it either. Very active and have good health.

That's why I like knee length or slightly above the knee skirts.

I do use support hose but got enough good info from the forum tom be able to wear shorter skirts and support hose as well!

Well . . . I must say I would not have taken you at 71 by your avatar or other pics you have posted in the past. So well done!

I am not sure how to tackle this one though . . . but I tend to agree with Katey in that a more youthful appearance stems from the make-up we put on as it improves/evens complexion, enhances various aspects of our looks and provides a more youthful appearance. Not to mention, covering a beard tends to give you a more youthful appearance. Added to this, most (myself included), wear a wig over a receding hair line. So it is not hard to envisage shaving (no pun intended) a few years off our looks.

However I think Martha hit the nail on the head when she said "youthful outlook". If you have this type of attitude, then it only increases your vigor and vim which enhances how you present to the world.

    Hugs

    Almost happy birthday Martha.
    I'm 65 and counting myself.
I'm not sure if the dressing makes me look younger, but it certainly gets the endorphins flowing and I certainly feel younger.

Well, just turned 71 22 days ago.

I still feel great! Still have a lot of go!

    And still like short skirts!

Though for costume events, I love wearing large hoop skirts.

Yes. In a wig and makeup I look 15 to 20 years younger. It's amazing!

Hi Martha, I just turned 69 and I agree, it does seem easier to knock off quite a few years when dressed. Good luck and keep on dressing! Hugs Jaymee

Yep, what they said. I only dreamed of ever going to dinner and a movie wearing a dress 10 years ago. Now I very seldom go anywhere dressed as a guy. I'll be 65 pretty soon. Perhaps senility has set in, but I am enjoying life much more now.

The thing that keeps me young and youthful is a good sense of humor and a good sense of fun.

Here is me "an older one" disguised as a real old woman for a costume party.

I like to let my hair down. But that's tough since I am nearly completely bald.

But it was a lot of fun!
