This generation

I'm M to F transgender but posting here because cross dressers can relate to this experience. I few days ago I went to our pharmacy to pick up a prescription. I was in drab except for a little light makeup. I put on foundation, blush, and powder to set it. I didn't bother with eye makeup or lipstick. My hair is fem and I carry a string purse. Only one of the three registers was open and the 50ish woman working it knew of my birth defect. I was 2nd in line. A young 20 something female tech opened the next register and said to me," I can take you over here Ma'am." The other checker hissed," Sir!" while tossing her head toward me. The young checker looked stunned and didn't know what to say. So I gently touched her hand with mine and softly said," it's ok, you were right, I'm transgender." She smiled and said," Well, your makeup looks great!" I told her that I wasn't trying very hard today. She asked how I should be addressed. I told her that the southern term of endearment, "Hun" always works. This younger generation seems to be much more accepting of ladies like me.................Leanne

this younger generation is much more accepting of people than my generation ever was. Heck, when I got my ears pierced i caught holy heck from my friends and family.
Last month I bought a summer dress for my wife and the cashier was teasing me about me buying something for me and saying it was for my wife. I was teasing her back and asked why she thought it was for me, she said her brother is CD and is very comfortable buying his own clothing and she was watching me and I was too comfortable looking at womens clothes. We still tease each other and she still thinks I dress but I won't admit it to her. she is too loud and doesn't think about what she is saying. she's a great kid and fun to talk to though

I agree Leanne! I posted a while ago about a young retail SA I meet often. Long story short but she's VERY accepting! Anyway, at the same store, I was presenting androgynous as I often do and a 50+ yr old female customer in line in front of me paid for her purchase and turned around and when she saw me, she stopped dead, looked me up and down, frowned in discust and walked out! The young SA and I just smiled and shook our heads...then I ran out, slashed her tires and called her nasty names...kidding!😀

i agree, the prejudice of the elder gens is giving way to the accepting young round here

Hi Leanne,

Sorry to read about your rude treatment. To be honest, if it were me (and it has happened) I would have called her on it and demanded to see her supervisor. I get confused "sirs" now and then and if it is done by pure accident or not knowing then I cut people slack . . . this was downright rude. I am glad though that the other SA helped calm things down.

WRT to older generation versus younger generation, while I agree older folks struggle more with the concept than younger folks the prevalence of accepting "older generation" folks is still quite high. Oh they might not come up and say "you go girl" but they are still accepting/tolerant. They may give me an odd look (not rude . . . more a WTF) but I tend to cut them some slack because it is not a common concept to them. Contrarily, I have run in to some overtly rude 20 something SAs and have subsequently slapped them down hard.
