    Correlation bwtween vasectomies and crossdressing/transgender

I just wondered if there'd been any studies or polls on this subject: on whether there's a significantly higher % of mature CD/TG who had vasectomies, whether a high % of TS also had vasectomy earlier.

From the little web info I can gather 1-3% of males get vasectomies.

    Any input appreciated, thanks

    Now that's getting specialised!
Of course, getting the old snip-snip does not affect testosterone levels, if that is what you are driving at. Actually, from my experience, vasectomies seem to be popular with men who have a wandering eye.

I believe my step dad had a vasectomy though I'm not 100% on that, he has two kids from a previous marriage and my mom has me and my sister so I think he decided on no more kids.

I can't imagine many CDers getting it done unless it was as a birth control, from what I've read in the TS forum HRT can affect the production of you know what as well as reduce and remove sexual desire.

I'd hazard a guess that those with extreme dysphoria would only be the ones to have it done
I cant stand to fly, I'm not that naive. I'm just out to find the better part of me. I'm more than a bird, I'm more than a plane, I'm more than some pretty face beside a train. Its not easy to be me.

I would think that your estimate of 1-3% of males getting vasectomies is way off. This is one of the most reliable and safe methods for a couple to insure that there will be no "accidental" children. It simpler and safer than a woman having an operation and it's simpler and safer than the woman taking birth control pills for 20 years or so.

As for a vasectomy leading to crossdressing, that's a pretty big stretch. I had one many years ago and I'm a crossdresser but I don't see that as scientific proof of anything.

2012 in the uk there were 15,000 vasectomies, compared to 37000 in 2002 according to a new article i found on it. Extrapolating its unlikely more than 5% of UK males have had them.
A study in the usa showed 87% of vasectomies were caucasian, non-hispanic affluent, well-educated demographic.

My point was nothing to do with vasecotomies reducing testosterone, they don't, I was actually interested in whether its an early sign of a late-onset T, but I wanted to see if that emerged rather than explain first - best to avoid hypnotic inductions in analyses.

I was also interested if any of it correlated with post-vasectomy pain.

Pain? No pain, just a bit of itch when the hair starts to regrow. I was back on the road in a couple days and that was 30 years ago.

I have had a vasectomy, I can't imagine any correlation. Especially since so many of "us" started dressing pre-teen. One benefit was shaving for the vasectomy. I have shaved ever since and my wife loves that as well.......

I had a vasectomy purely for a method of birth control and that was long after I began shaving and even longer after I started crossdressing. As for pain, I found it pretty pain free and was out on the local reservoir the next day trout fishing.

Interestingly, 8% of men with tattoos contemplate a vasectomy, though only 2% actually go through with it, while 26% of women with tattoos contemplate it (for their male partners that is) and a startling 12% actually try to get their man to do it - of these about 2% are successful, which correlates neatly with the number of tattooed men who choose to do it. What isn't defined is the number of tattooed men who choose to have a vasectomy because of their female partner's urging. Of course it's possible that a number of men decide against the operation because they're sick of being nagged, but sadly that data remains unknown.

Of men without tattoos, such as myself, 1.8% have contemplated getting a tattoo post-vasectomy within the first 3 years, while 2.3% have contemplated it within 10 years. The most recent statistics indicate that having a vasectomy may even reduce the probability of getting a tattoo, but only among middle class men. There is a clear correlation between vasectomies and social behaviour: only about 1% of incarcerated males have had a vasectomy; 17% of Conservative politicians have had vasectomies, while Labour lags well behind with 7.4%. Among university graduates, the proportion who will have vasectomies between the ages of 25-45 is substantially higher among Oxbridge graduates than red brick oiks, and everyone else mostly doesn't think about such things as they're too busy watching TV and eating fatty pies.

    I hope this helps

I think the age men get vasectomies just happens to coincide when we are old enough to acknowledge our needs to CD or for some consider transitioning.
For those who have had the procedure done was it done with you in a similar position as a women getting a pelvic exam?

I had mine in 1992 for birth control reasons and because I hated using condoms. Thank you Planned Parenthood. I had significant pain afterward and it took me longer to recover than I anticipated. I would think that number per year looks very low, but what do I know. I agree with Krisi as to the efficacy and safety of the procedure. My sex drive never changed, and the procedure had absolutely nothing to do with my late in life discovery of this side of me.

I had one done 30 years ago, strictly because we didn't want to have any more kids and it was easier for me than for my wife. I always joked that it was major surgery for me and the doctor used an 18 inch chain saw, LOL!!! I do remember sitting in my easy chair and my then 7 year old daughter jumping in my lap, OUCH! Also had zero to do with my crossdressing and no effect on sexual urge.
I want to be this girl!

Nikki: Do you have any statistics on how many women with tattoos have had a vasectomy? That might be of more interest to this forum ;-)

As for my own experience, I had the snip done at around age 35 (now mid 50's) for birth control reasons. We had the kids we wanted and I too dislike using condoms.
Had been dressing may years prior to that and continued many years after. The snip had no effect on desire to dress or sex drive.

I did experience considerable pain after the fact. It diminished to a reasonable level over about 6 months, but tucking was impossible for a long time and did not become pain free until around 2 years later.

I dont think the 1-3% number is correct! Based on just the number of people I know of among friends and family, I would think it must be significantly higher.

I think there's probably a closer correlation between mature men who shave their legs and mature CD/TGs...

And about as much chance of shaving something causing a personality change...

So, the idea is that reducing T is connected with the CD/TG condition, is connected with an urge to run out and get the snip...?

You know there's a direct and inversely proportional correlation between the number of pirates (privateering, matches in beard, cutlass bearing types) and average global temperature... no, really... their decline is what's causing global warming...

I'm with Nikki on the sofa, watching TV and eating fatty pies before the pseudo-science warps my mind.

Hi, I had a vasectomy 35 years ago, it seemed fairly routine at the time and really don't think it has anything to do with crossdressing. Jaymee

Nope, not at all in my OP. I was wondering if predilection for vasectomy might be linked, for some people, with unconscious desire to transition - like an unaware stage 1.

As usual, the CD/T world appears to be full spectrum and uncorrelated with anything other than "desire/urge/need", or subjects unmentionable.

Give it a chance Pammie - doubt that the trans* world can be un-correlated by only 16 posts... you might get a bit of a run overnight... but I'm betting on non-correlation anyway...

When you go looking for correlations, you can come up with just about anything, just keep looking, then just make something up! For example, did you know that virtually 100% of crossdressers drank milk as children? Maybe we should look for a link for that. A NEW STUDY MUST BE DONE!
Some causes of crossdressing you've probably never even considered: My TG biography at:http://www.crossdressers.com/forums/...=1#post1490560
There's an addendum at post # 82 on that thread, too. It's about a ten minute read.
Why don't we understand our desire to dress, behave and feel like a girl? Because from childhood, boys are told that the worst possible thing we can be, is a sissy. This feeling is so ingrained into our psyche, that we will suppress any thoughts that connect us to being or wanting to be feminine, even to the point of creating separate personalities to assign those female feelings into.

Ice cream causes sunburn - every year as ice cream sales increase so does the incidence of sunburn

For the record... Had the snip, cross dressed before and after, very little pain afterwards and all the same urges

Nikki is definitely in the running for Post of the Day!

I've had a vasectomy, but it was over a decade between that an the onset of crossdressing. I don't see a correlation..

perfect analysis. Had the vasectomy at 40 after 4 kids. Didn't wear a dress or use breast forms until I was 56. Unless time delay is part of the correlation...

time delay may well be part of the correlation but its more complex than that, and probably not universal.
i did wonder if vasectomy could be an early sign of late-onset dysphoria
Eryn: you say over a decade, it was 9 years for me.

It's the late-onset TS demographic I'm most curious about in regard of this.

I had my vasectomy 22 years ago and it made no difference in my desire to dress, sex drive, etc... The only down side was my ex-wife really only wanted to have sex for reasons of procreation and without the ability have children, I was cut off.
Please call me Jamie, I always_have crossdressed, I always will, "alwayshave".
