    Some recognition for us

On my facebook I found a link to a list, The top 50 successful Transgender Americans you should know. They are doctor, lawyers, judges, research scientists, clergy, military administrators, etc. All those listed have transitioned and are working high level jobs. Some are also working on Trans issues. I am glad we are getting some positive press! Hugs Lana Mae

I'm not exactly sure why I would be expected to know them. I only recognize one actress, and didn't remember her name until I read the article. Other than being a transgendered person who has succeeded in doing their jobs, what makes them so much more important than the person who works alongside of them in the same position?

Or is it a case of, we should all bring up these folks names in regular conversation as examples of TG folks who are just as good at their jobs as 'normal' straight people can be?

Some causes of crossdressing you've probably never even considered: My TG biography at:http://www.crossdressers.com/forums/...=1#post1490560
There's an addendum at post # 82 on that thread, too. It's about a ten minute read.
Why don't we understand our desire to dress, behave and feel like a girl? Because from childhood, boys are told that the worst possible thing we can be, is a sissy. This feeling is so ingrained into our psyche, that we will suppress any thoughts that connect us to being or wanting to be feminine, even to the point of creating separate personalities to assign those female feelings into.

For any that want to read this.
    http://www.lgbtqnation.com/2017/01/t...mericans-know/

This is posted in the MtF CD section.

Of those 50 successful TG, how many are CD not TS. Yes they are presenting success, but doubt many are pushing for help for CD.

Of those 50 I recognize maybe 10. At least one I do know personally and she is very nice person.

The "LGBTQ Nation’s top 50" criteria shows this is not a comprehensive list.

"When building a list of transgender people with great careers, there were five basic criterion:

    They are American.
    They are currently living.
They’ve had successful careers after transition.
Their careers should have little to nothing to do with being transgender (i.e, trans people can be something other than professional advocates).
They are publicly out as transgender.

This list is not comprehensive, and there are literally hundreds more we did not list. The careers represented are deliberately eclectic, as are their genders, ages, races, and are intended to show the diversity of the community."

I would add there are thousands more that are successful and are all great at their careers.

I also found myself wondering about the relevance of this to MtF CDs. The fact that transition and being publicly 'out' feature in the essential criteria suggests to me that, for LGBTQ Nation, T means TS not TG!

Ever since coming back into the LGBTQ nation, NO such thing back in the 70s. I understand many that like the idea of TG, as TS implies a sexual aspect. I know many of my friends, MtF and FtM that won't use TS and will give you a hard time.

I think it does have many problems of being a supposed umbrella term. Most non-LGBTQ people assume TG is TS, as that are the people shown like in this list. The problem with it is being too wide a usage, TS (I guess this includes the TS of the porn industry also) - CD/TV - NB ("they" cannot even decide all/or what terms to use who fit there) - Drag (not all are just Gay Male entertainers - some also ID as possible TS down the line) - and all the other terms that we can come up with.

Some of all this comes from work of Virginia Prince, I think I met her and read her work. "In her view, if you're not a transsexual, you're a transgenderist – a term she coined and uses to identify herself. In fact, she considers sexual reassignment surgery a mistake for anyone, and doesn't really understand one's identification with transsexuality". She was big on pushing the acceptance of full time living for the Male Hetero CD. Not all were enamored of her teachings/views.

I think for the majority of non-LGBTQ that accept the idea of TG/TS makes sense, they are not so sure on the whole TG/CD thing.

Don't think that the positive press for successful TG/TS will provide any trickle down for the TG/CD. And coming from the LGBTQ Nation, it will not sway any of the detractors.

Thanks for posting Lana. Yes, apparently there are no CDs listed, but the public at large doesn't make that kind of distinction. A rising tide lifts all boats.

There is an interesting film (I watched last night, direct TV on demand) called "The Trans List". It was a compilation of monolog (interview) presentations of a number of TG people, many who are well known. Of all of them, there was only one that didn't seem to be full time, and was gender fluid or genderqueer, and vocally so. I think Goergette is quite correct, the world has focus on full time TG, but not much sympathy for "just a CD". This is also reflected in the corporate HR policies for at work response to transition.

As a CD, it might be nice to be able to express myself as I wish, but it is NOT imperative. Those with GID so pronounced they are compelled to transition need our support. I can put my issues on a back burner in comparison.

I Thank You for putting this out there for any interested, and to discuss. Discuss does not mean conflict.

Do I think that this is good for the whole TG umbrella. Definitely good for the TG/TS, especially the new ones just getting into this. The TG/CD or TG/NB, not so sure. The problem with this forum is that there is not one section, maybe "Media" that this might have been better served, since this is a media release.

NO conflict for or from me I hope. Yes positive press is good and is out there. Coming from an era, 1970s, that had little press good or bad. Some I talk with now think the fact that there was so little press that few non-LGBTQ even knew or had heard about TG/TS, that it made it easier for people like myself.

I just don't feel that a release of all the successful TG/TS from the LGBTQ Nation is going to have much if any positive reactions from the many non-LGBTQ haters out there. And is not likely going to be helpful to the vastly larger TG/CD or TG/NB out there.

I have had some discussions with some in the Gay/Lesbian crowd over what works better. Confrontation, "I'm Queer and I'm here", or acceptance "the fact that so many change their views when relatives or close friends are found to be Gay/Lesbian".
I think a lot of this will work better with acceptance and positive views to the people we meet. My whole family of 50+ has me to point to others to show that we are just regular people.

If I was "only a CD", not sure I would have even come out to my family in the 1970s. At least with TG/TS I could somewhat make some reasoning that others would understand, but even that doesn't always work. Know quite a few TG/TS that family and/or friends won't accept.

See the many threads on the "why" of CDing. At least Virginia Prince and her friends/groups tried to put the whole TG/CD vice TS a legitimate lifestyle.
