Smile IMVU, Second Life, World of Warcraft, and others

I know there were a bunch of closed threads about online gaming as female characters. Anyone else still do this?

I've been hanging out on IMVU for quite a while, kind of as a little release for when the pink fog hits and I'm unable to dress IRL (gaming slang for "in real life"). I'll occasionally spend a couple of hours in the evening hanging out online in the chat rooms, visiting friends, trying on new looks and outfits, and generally enjoying femme time online.

Have to admit that dressing up online has its advantages.

    - Everyone can easily look like a supermodel (You actually have to try REALLY hard to look ugly!)
    - Dresses !!! Gowns !!!! Lingerie !!! OH MY !!!!
    - One-click wardrobe changes
    - Your makeup is always perfect
    - "Does this dress make my butt look too big?" "There's a resizer/scaler for that ..."
    - "Wardrobe malfunctions" mean that the graphics are glitching, not your actual clothing.
    - Shoes !!! Shoes that FIT !!!
    - No matter how many dresses or outfits you have in your virtual closet, they don't take up ANY space!
    - You can wear clothes that would get you arrested IRL (in real life), and no one bats an eyelash.
    - If you start getting harassed by someone, escape and relief is a mere mouse-click away.
    - Costumes !!!
( Yes, I have a Jessica Rabbit costume ... "I'm not bad ... my pixels are just arranged that way ...")

Kayliedaskope01, if anyone is interested in my IMVU name.

I still have several Second Life accounts, including my main one as Ceera Murakami. But I am hardly ever there any more. Why play virtual dress up, when I can do it now in real life any time I want to? (Though I really wish I could apply some of those shape-adjustment sliders to the real me!)

True, but remember that isn't always an option for all of us.

Yes, give me some of those adjusters for a slimmer waist and bigger boobs!

I was playing Grand Theft Auto online as a girl, you can buy sexy dresses and outfits but I could never steal enough money to get the dress I wanted.
It was kind of cool playing as a girl.
"This is ME" I am not CRAZY, I'm just a GUY who likes dresses!
Since allot of men dress up in woman's clothing that makes it a manly thing to do!
    Much more fun than fishing.
I do construction like house building and I love CD-ing, what's the difference?

Years ago I got into IMVU for a while. And of course I was a chick, duh!

Sometimes I'd get all dolled-up IRL first. Or at least just the clothes.

Even had multiple guys as random IMVU sex partners.

    (Though not all at once!)

I became good buddies with a male & female couple there. We'd hang out a lot at his little "club" thing, and have all kinds of wild fun with each other & all the guests.

They (the couple) actually thought I was a real GG -- until way down the line, when they started suspecting otherwise.

I never admitted it, but obviously my ruse was up. I did feel bad about lying to them. At the same time, what really changed? I was still the same person they had all those little adventures with.

LOL, Name a video game that isn't.

Actually you can play Second Life for free. I know people in there that have played for over 10 years and haven't spent a dime.

Ah yes, good times. Been that, done there many an evening. Sometimes I would have two or three rooms open at the same time, and be fooling around in all of them! (I was such a ****!)

I remember once (on IMVU, not IRL) I was at a meeting with the owner of a club and two of the other dancers. Unbeknownst to the owner, the three of us were in another room having a fine old time in bed together. Jerrica (the owner) had NO idea we were doing anything else but listening to her, although she wondered why our responses were a little slow. "Sorry, I'm a little tired, Bree is on YouTube, and Wolf is finishing his homework." "Oh, okay ...".

It wasn't until close to a year later that Jerrica and I were chatting together, and I told her about what was really going on during the meeting. "We figured you would have been pissed if you knew we were screwing around during the meeting." "I'm not pissed about that - I'm pissed because you didn't invite ME!!"

We had a good long laugh about that ...

I actually earned a fair amount of real-world money in Second Life, as a content creator and terraforming expert. I designed and built multi-sim projects for people, including most of the Rutgers University sims in SL. I cashed out enough of the in-world currency and got enough direct real-world cash payments for the major projects to buy things like a complete Mac Pro tower computer system, and a complex home theater system for my family - big screen TV multimedia speakers and amplifier, etc. I don't sell much in SL any more because I didn't manage to make the change to "mesh" 3D product creation.

(In non-game terms, I designed and installed the 3D user environment that people interacted in with the on-line virtual world. Buildings that they could go into, landscaping, homes... I also created clothing and accessories for people's avatars, and texture sets that other content creators could use. People would pay me real money to make the things they wanted, and which they didn't have the skills to create on their own. Second Life is one of the few on-line game/virtual world communities where just about anyone with the right skills can add content to the game, and where you can purchase and sell in-game currency for real-world money. However, it should be noted that it is very rare for a player to make any sort of good money in SL. Most 'work' in Second Life pays far less per hour of effort than a minimum wage real-world job would pay. SL has millions of participants, but the ones who make any sort of real money there number in the very low thousands.)

Wow, Ceara, that's pretty cool. Now I can say I know one of the major creators in Second Life!

There was a book about Second Life a while back by Peter May, and it went into that in-world to real-world money thing. The book is called Virtually Dead, and it is a REALLY good read, especially for geeks like us.

Over half my characters on World of Warcraft are female and "hot". A decade ago they were a target of attention. Then again, years ago, the warlock had a succubus that was undeniably entertaining.

I've always picked female characters ever since video games were invented.

Everyone treat me as a GG on "second life" so I am thinking that it's not that common for a guy to pick a female character to play.

But I do admit I get a kick out of being a girl with perfect makeup and body all the time.

When I was younger I used to create female characters in games that allowed it and dressed them accordingly, that what a skater girl would wear while doing her stuff etc.

The only online virtual world I frequented for some time was Playstation Home and even though there so many clothes to choose from, I dressed my female character in nice jeans and a nice cardigan, no over the top costumes. The one time I dressed her in a miniskirt and a tank top I got contacted by several guys. Funnily enough that stopped once I returned to the jeans and cardigan outfit...

Ever since that however I stopped doing this even in games that gave me the opportunity. I somehow liked the way the male characters looked better.

I currently enjoy playing the retro FF gamebooks online via Steam.
Always play as a female character where there is a choice. Some of them have great outfits!

13 year SL veteran here, I don't think I have actually spent any real money maybe a few bucks during the early days. I used to invest my stipend at one or two of the casinos that paid off well. I still have >100,000 L$ in my account.

I am also basically being paid to have a premium account, as my weekly stipend adds up to more than the yearly premium account fee.

Cheryl, my friend, do not become addicted to online games. They will take hold of you, and you will resent their absence.
