Another small milestone to report. I have been shopping a few times with my wife while dressed, but never alone...until a couple days ago. I decided to venture out on my own! I kept it casual: jeans, a top and ballet flats. Decided to go to Target around 9pm on a Wednesday evening. It was especially dead inside the store. Part of it was probably the time of day, but also the fact that the Cubs were playing that night. It was only myself and a handful of other women in the store. This was the perfect scenario for me, as I enjoy shopping the most without tons of other people around (whether I'm in guy or girl mode).
I am pretty confident in my look, but I am most self conscious about my voice. I was comforted by the fact that they had self checkout lanes, which would mean minimal interaction with other people. I picked out several things from the women's section and tried them on. I ended up just deciding on buying a dress and a couple bras. But by the time I decided on my purchases, the self checkout lanes were closed, and there was only one checkout lane left with a male cashier.
I sure as hell wasn't leaving without that dress (great price, and super cute!). So I decided to just suck it up and go for it. I didn't talk much beyond "hi" and "thank you". But he was real sweet. He may have figured out I was a CDer, but he didn't care and treated me like any other customer. I left the store feeling really good about myself. Great experience overall.
