    Getting more confident

I have been constantly expanding my comfort zone in going out in public dressed. My first forays were back to the same store where I bought the outfit I had on at the time. To thank the sales staff, show off the newest outfit, receive more affirmation and of course try on more clothes. Predictably, my clothes collection grew FAST

Over the last year or so, I started running small errands while dressed. To the convenience store, the gas station, maybe a casino. (Casinos, and not just the ones in Vegas, are just as accepting as dress shops.) In recent weeks, I tested the waters in that Testosterone Temple, the gym changing room. This morning, for example, I wore my new green sweater dress, black cardigan and black wedge pumps. I checked in at the front desk where the female attendants smiled but said nothing. Walked into the changeroom (the men's), past a couple of younger men who barely noticed me, changed and went out to do my workout. Same thing on the way out. I took off my sweaty clothes, showered, dried off, then put my dress back on. I exited with no one even paying attention to me. A man about my age in the lobby looked me up and down. We made eye contact, smiled at each other, then he returned to his texting while I entered the elevator. One older woman in the elevator took a long silent look at me, smiled and then made small talk about something unrelated.

So, maybe in the past I talked a bigger game than I had a right to, because it was mainly trips for clothes shopping. But now I'm becoming more truly adventurous an loving every minute of it.

    Way braver than me,
I don't mind working out with 3/4 pink tights, sports bra and sports top, but having some see me in my bra is a no-no, so I use the pools private "family" change rooms to get dressed.
Isn't it funny how hard it is to put on a bra and blouse when your skin is damp and sticky from the shower or sweat?

    Rachel,
Have you tried stockings or tights !

    Suzanne ,
That's a great story, I had to smile at the reference to the looks you received but at least the lady spoke to you and maybe the guy was texting " Wow you should have seen what I've just seen !"
changing rooms do pose a challenge , when I went for a swim ( in drab ) but had to keep my nail polish on because I'd forgotten my remover the changing room was empty when I went in for a swim but a guy came in after and looked at my shaved body a couple of times and just smiled , nothing was said .

    Suzanne,

Great to see you getting out and about, I find it unnerving when I get the long silent look from anyone.

It usually means I have to tidy up my act. :-)
    Work on your elegance,

OK, then we shall subtract 5 from your previous trans-ness score, but it sounds like you'll earn the points back pretty fast. Congratulations.
I am not a woman; I don't want to be a woman; I don't want to be mistaken for a woman.
I am not a man; I don't want to be a man; I don't want to be mistaken for a man.
I am a transgender person. And I'm still figuring out what that means.
