    My sons toes.

I had an interesting visit with my son this last weekend. On sunday i was helping him "11 yrs old" make his lunch and i noticed his toes. Looked like black nail polish. So i commented and told him i used to wear black nail polish in high school. He said it was supposed to be blue so i gtabbed a flashlight and yes they were definately blue and a color i own by the way. Only thing i said was "hey, thays a realy cool color." Ive known for a few years now that he likes to paint his nails with his mom, my ex wife, and yes im cool with it. I also know that both mine and my wifes family have given him crap for it. So i asked him why he didnt do his fingers this time. He said its because everyone is emabarassed by it. So i told him f#@$ them. Its not about them. A couple hours later he gave me a big hug and thanked me for not hating him for his toes. Im not out to my boys but this has realy stuck with me. Im thinking of painting my toes the same color so when hes here on thursday i can show him and say that i liked his so much that i wanted to do mine to.

Don't just think about it. Do it, and make sure that 1) everybody knows and 2) your son sees you telling people about it. THAT is the way to support him.

Sounds like a good excuse to wear nail polish on your fingers

Thats what a good dad does he understands and listens to his son.
Kids have this thing its called getting attention even if its doing something bad its still attention.
Sounds like her family don't pay attention to him and he is trying to get them to pay attention.
    Just a thought.
I raised two daughters on my own so I do know a lot about how kids work.

Good for you and you're a great dad!!
I wish you were my dad. My dad would of cut my toes
off if he saw they were painted.
And BTW, you're toes look great even if they do look green.

    Great job !!!!!
Escapism isn't necessarily bad, but is definitely unhealthy in the long term. While helpful in the short term, things will degrade over time. At some point, the escapee will have to face the issue. Things simply blowing over isn't really going to happen in many situations.

Love the story, I need to do my toes too. It is just hard for me to reach them. We Hippos have trouble reaching them.

So I showed my son today and he thinks its the coolest thing ever. My oldest son even showed me his black finger nails that his girlfriend did for him. Said he heard me talking to his brother on sunday and figure why not.

Its not the nails. Im more proud thay they are learning that they dont need the acceptance of others to be who they are.

Pathetic that both your and your ex-wife's family give him a hard time. They must have a really sad lives if that is the case. Well done giving your son your support. x

Ronnie, I think it is awesome to see you support your kids for who they are. I also wanted to say I have that same color polish and it is fantastic. Cheers.
