1960s - 70s Penneys & Sears Catalogs did you find them Mesmerizing & Inspiring ?

When I was young I was always looking at the lingerie ads, thinking how much more fun it was to be a Girl !

I was always scared I would be caught looking at the nighties and slips or damage the pages somehow and arose suspicion.

So my question is did you enjoy them also and do you still enjoy them Today ? I find if I look at them before i know it I am in a cute babydoll or Slip. so silly I know!

There are literally 100s of these items sold on Ebay everyday, I wonder who is buying them and wearing them ?

Our family received all the major mail order catalogs up until they were phased out. Yes, I did enjoy looking at the lingerie pages. Ladies silky underthings, swimsuits, etc. so much more interesting (and dream inducing) than boring male clothing.

To this day, I prefer print media, such as catalogs and magazines, to online reading. Yup, the internet is convenient, just not the same to me.

JC Penney and Sears catalogs were always around our house. That is how I learned so much about lingerie. I spent hours and hours studying the descriptions of the styles, construction, and size charts. By age 12 I knew how to properly measure myself for a bra.

probably where my first interest in cding came from. That type of lingerie has certainly gone out of style but many of us no doubt still where it. I love the price shown.

I so agree Robbie, I was always fascinated with the foundation section. Maybe I secretly know what my figure was going to be.

I too prefer print media. I saved a small collection of VS mail catalogs before they went out of print. I kind of wish I would have saved a couple of the old catalogs as well. So thanks Robbie for posting those pics. That brings back some fond memories.

As others have mentioned, in our house it was Penney's and Sears. I'd spend hours looking through the women's clothes.

I remember thumbing through those Sears, Pennys and Wards catalogs going way back. Some of my earliest memories (5,6 years old) have me selecting some of my favorite hose, slips, bras, and girdles, especially those old lace up girdles. I dreamed about those even in my teen years. Not sure why I was so fascinated by them, but I thought they were great. I suppose a part of it all was how great the models looked wearing all of these wonderful treasures. Those catalogs are basically a thing of the past now, but who would have ever guessed I’d still be looking at, or even shopping for women’s clothing (internet shopping these days). Your pics do bring back a lot of memories though. All that lace, color varieties, etc. They just have that cool retro look to them. Gee, thanks for the memories! -Meg

Yes, I looked at the women in them. However, they weren't very erotic or exciting! I preferred even the primitive Playboy mags of those days!

Of course, that was eons before I ever thot of WEARING women's things!

Most definitely! Even after I moved out, I used to get a JC Penney catalog into the 1990s. My first pair of high heels came from them. Still have them. They would also send out a lingerie only flyer from time to time. Those were great too. Used to get a Fredericks of Hollywood catalog in the 90s.

Oh yes, they were so much fun, and educational to look through. I was attracted to an OBG with six garters, in the Sears catalog, wishing I could get one. While rummaging through my Mom’s lingerie drawer...guess what? ..she had one. My hands trembled as I put it on along with her nylons. To this day, I look through many catalogs, including Victoria Secret. I only buy nylons from them, but dream on. Who buys on eBay? lol...three guesses. I think we’re the ones keeping the girdle, nylon stockings, slip, etc. manufacturing companies in business..yes, your pictures bring back many fond memories. Thanks.

Yes count me in the group. But it's kinda like we are dating our selves. Anyone under 50 or so has no idea the fascination those catalogs held. It's really a shame they stopped making those under garments. I guess that is what happens in the feminist revolution. Sure wish someone would bring them back. Hugs Faith

Christmas wasn't Christmas until the Sears Christmas catalogue arrived.
My concern was that those thick catalogues began to show wear in certain sections. My fear was that if you held it a certain way and allowed the catalogue to open "naturally ", it would open up to the beginning of the lingerie section lol. And if you looked at the right spot you'd notice the edges of the pages appeared more worn than the rest.

WOW! I remember these catalogs when I was young and just starting to dress in secret! They do bring back so many memories, as well as of my grandmother and step-mother who both wore slips all the time as well

I remember the catalogs but never enthralled by the lingerie all that much.
The long line girdles were a fascination at best thinking how do they sit down in them.

I loved those catalog. It was almost like porn for CD's. I studied them from front to back and knew everything they had and knew what would fit me. Just think if these were school books, we would have been straight A students.

I remember the catalogs and I'm sure I looked at the lingerie a little. I don't remember anything more than that. Nice photos in the OP though and I'd love to own the jade green collection!

We got them too. I remember getting an indefinable feeling of fascination when i was in the lingerie pages. But another feeling told me i shouldn't linger too long there, lest someone accuse me of some sort of wrongdoing. This was LONG before I had any crossdressing urges, but I felt my violently homophobic father was sensitive to any sign of gender crimes.

GUILTY, that's right. Penney's & Sears catalogs; it's there fault we are CD's. Looking at the ad's in Robbiegirl's post and the hormones flowing in a young man, who wouldn't want to be them or try the lingerie on. How unfair they were marketed just for women.

My brother had Playboy. I had the Sears and Montgomery Ward catalogs.

As a child my grandparents would watch me in the morning before school and after school until my parents got off from work.
I remember looking through their Sears and JC Penney's catalogs pretending to be looking at all the toys, and if they weren't in the same room I would look through the lingerie section. Little did I know I would want to wear it later in life.

By the time I was nine, I knew my measurements and my size in everything Sears, Penneys, and Wards sold. The catalogs taught me how to figure it out. When Halloween rolled around, I knew what size to ask for. And I received complete outfits in my size. It helped that I had an aunt nearly my age and my size. I paid more attention to the outerwear than the lingerie because the outerwear was pretty and had lots of variety.
