In-person people’s minds add a lot that the camera does not. The human eye and brain are really incredible. They have capabilities beyond any current camera. (Higher dynamic range, ability to focus attention, seeing depth.)

In a mirror, we see ourselves as interpreted by our brain. Whether that helps us see our fantasy image of ourselves or our self doubts and flaws depends on many factors including our mood.
